While there, I was attentive to Korean high schools and students.I was surprised by how different Koreas public high schools are from Americas. Korean high schools can be all-girls, all-boys or co-ed (男女同校的)unlike our standard co-ed high schools. There are three grades: “go 1(10th) ”,“go 2” (1l th) and “go 3” (12th). “Go”is the first syllable of the word “go-deung hakkyo”, which, simply translated, is “high school”.In America, unless you want to go to a private school, you dont have to take an entrance exam. In Korea, however, students must take a test to get in because of the many choices of schools. Another difference I couldnt help but notice was the students appearance. With very few exceptions, all wear uniforms. A name tag (标牌)with the students name, grade and homeroom number must also be worn. Girls skirts cant be above the upper part of the knee, and it is forbidden to dye (染)your hair or wear accessories (装饰品)except small earrings. There are strict regulations for appearance to achieve neatness, and it seems the only freedom students have is with their choices of hair style, socks and shoes. The final difference was the setup of the classes. There may be 40 students in a classroom, but the number can be less or even more, depending on the population of the town or city. Although there are many students per classroom, they are very close, which I think is a result of not changing classrooms for different subjects. There are no levels in the subjects and the teachers are the ones who switch classrooms. They just have ten-minute breaks between subjects. In each class, students are ranked by their grades. This causes strict competition, and Korean students do a lot of studying. To help them, all schools have extra study classes after school. One other fact that helped me appreciate living in America is that Koreans have school on Saturdays. Although its only a half day, I think I speak for most Americans when I say we could never imagine ourselves in school on a Saturday.Koreas public high schools are clearly different from Americas. I had imagined them to be just like our schools, but now I have a clear picture of how different they are.41. How many main differences are mentioned between Koreas public high school and Americas?A. 3. B. 4. C. 5. D. 6.42. It seems that the writer _ .A. is familiar with the education system of high schools in KoreaB. is fond of Korean students appearance C. prefers the high school life of America to the one of KoreaD. feels it common to have lessons on weekends43. A. go to different high schools without exams B. wear any clothes except uniforms at school C. attend different classes as they likeD. have different hair styles四.任务型阅读 Have you ever intended to be fully absorbed in your work but found yourself distracted (走神) by e-mail, the Internet and other things throughout the day?People often lose their concentration when they are bored, of course, but also when they are engaged in challenging tasks, says Peter Bregman. They sometimes have a feeling to escape from whats difficult or boring, so they jump out, he says. The part of the brain devoted to attention is connected to the brains emotional center. Any strong emotionquarrels with colleagues, problems at homecan interrupt our attention. Studies over the last decade have shown that too much work to do at a time can easily lead to distraction. Refocusing is hard for many people. Robert Epstein suggests the following, Stop and listen to music for a few minutes. Go for a short walk or take a deep breath, where you breathe in deeply, count to five slowly, hold it and breathe out very slowly. This can blow out all the tension and the unwanted in your mind to restore your focus. Take more control by structuring your time and becoming more aware of your behaviors. Setting the phone alarm to go off every hour is my way of creating awareness, Mr. Bregman says, You have to inform yourself that youve lost focus in order to do something about it. Starting the day with a to-do list is important, such as when to eat, when to go to the gym or take a walk. But if its overly ambitious, you will put yourself in a state of anxiety, which makes it hard for the brain to concentrate. Choosing three or four things as your priority (优先) for the day allows your brain to settle down and focus, he says.TopicHow to become more (71) _ on the work?(72)_ of gettingdistractedPeople tend to get away from things that theyre (73) _ up with.Strong (74) _ affect the brain s part for attention.People get distracted easily if (75) _ multitasks at a time.(76) _ of strong emotionshaving a (77) _ with a colleague.meeting with problems at homeTips on holding attentionStop working to restore your focus by (78) _ your breath and try different relaxing things.(79) _ your time effectively and create awareness of your behaviors.Make a to-do list at the beginning of a working day.Focus on 3 or 4 things and get them done (80) _ for the day.五.单词拼写1.
