After his graduation from high school, which I attended, and his leaving for college,I was without. So here I was with two African men who brought not only knowledge but a deep love of working the land. Its a small piecemerely a square brick drawing a curly-haired Archangel Gabrielbut it may be the oldest surviving artwork by the Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci. If confirmed, this painting may show historians what da Vinci looked like as a teenager. Thats because the 1471 creation may,in fact, be a self-portrait da Vinci made when he was just 18 years old. However, manydoubt theartworks authenticity. Martin Kemp, an retired professor of art history at Oxford University who is a Leonardo expert, dismissed the claim absolutely. “The chance of its being by Leonardo is less than zero, Kemp told The Guardian. “The silly season for Leonardo never closes. The nearly 8-inch-by-8-inch square brick may contain clues linking it to da Vinci, according to Ernesto Solaris an art historian and da Vinci expert, and Ivana Rosa BonJfantino, a handwriting expert. Both say that a signature and date written on the angels jawline- which reads “Da Vinci Lionardo” with the date “ 1471 一closely match da Vincis handwriting. Next to the 1471 date are the numbers 52 and 72. Its possible the 52 is a reference to 1452, Leonardos birth year. Meanwhile, the 7 and 2 may refer to the letters “G” and “B” (G is the seventh letter of the alphabet, and B is the second), which could stand for Gabriel. “These numbers arc more :than a signature. It is typical of the famous puzzles that he loved all his life,” Solari said. When analyzing the handwriting, Bonfantino reviewed documents known to belong to da Vinci. Bonfantino noticed that the “1” in the 1471 date was shorter than the other numbers, which matched the previous examples of da Vincis writing.1.What do we know about the painting?A.It is higher than 8-inches.B.It is a self-portrait drawn by historians.C.It may be the oldest artwork drawn by Leonardo da Vinci.D.It is only a square piece with a curly-haired character.2.What does the underlined word “dismissed” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?A.Disagreed.B.Fined.C.Removed.D.Disliked.3.Why do Solari and Bonfantino think the painting contain clues about da Vinci?A.It is typical of him to express love.B.It has an important influence on him.C.The numbers next to the 1471 are his birthday.D.The signature and date is the same as his handwriting.4.What is the main idea of the text?A.A doubtful painting from da Vinci.B.A discussion about the artwork.C.An introduction about da Vincis painting.D.A description about da Vincis handwriting.4. This ambitious project is like taking 3D photos of a huge forest of nearly 100 billion trees, seeing not only the whole forest, hut also every twig and leaf on eachtree. “Our current methods cannot see both the trees and theforest. We aim to develop new methods to obtain a high-resolution map to see clearly how the neural network is connected,” said Luo Qingming, leader of the research. Luo, president of Hainan University and chief scientist of the Suzhou Institute for Brainsmatics of the HuazhongUniversity of Science and Technology ( HUST) , in East Chinas Jiangsu Province, said the research will help in analyzing the mechanisms of brain diseases, and promote the development of artificial intelligence. “The continuous changes of neural networks and brain activities pose great challenges to the analysis of brain functions. But we believe that brain functions and activities depend on the basic cells, just as a circuit network depends on its basic unitthe electronic ponents,” said Luo. “Different types of neurons are the basis for the analysis of brain functions and for the diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases,he said.1.What can we learn according to the second paragraph?A.We dont know our brains well.B.Our brains arent too plex at all.C.Our brains can understand the space.D.We estimate our plex structure and neurons.2.Why does Luo do the research?A.Because it will be a profitable research.B.Because it will promote the development of 3D movies.C.Because it will be beneficial to research human brain diseases.D.Because it will help more humans who have serious brain diseases.3.Whats the main idea of the text?A.The scientists analyze the human brain recently.B.The function of human brain is important for humans.C.The plex structure and neurons are only estimates.D.The scientists are researching a 3D map of the human brain.4.From which is the text probably taken?A.A medical book.B.A health magazine.C.A biology textbook.D.A research paper.二、七选五5.根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Here are some tips collected from experts for writing that all-important application essay, which can often mean the difference between getting accepted or rejected by the school of your choice.
