As Christmas drew nearer, her dream for a bicycle seemed to fade(逐渐消失), for she didnt mention it again. We bought some beautiful story books for her and thought she would be happy to see them. However, on December 24, she said that she wanted a bike more than anything else. It was just too late. We were busy with Christmas dinner and parking presents till midnight. So there was no time to buy a bicycle for our little girl. Thinking she would feel unhappy with the gift we gave her, we felt sad. We didnt know what to do. Suddenly my husband had a good idea. “What if I make a little bicycle out of clay(泥) and write a note to tell her that she could trade the clay model in for a real bike?” My husband asked. I agreed. So he spent the next four hours patiently working with clay to make a tiny bike. On Christmas morning, we were excited for Almie to open the little box with the beautiful red and white clay bike and the note. Finally, she opened it and read the note aloud. Then she asked, “Does this mean that I can trade in this bike that Daddy made me for a real one?” Smiling, I said, “Yes.” Almie had tears in her eyes when she replied, “I will never trade in this beautiful bicycle that Daddy made for me. Id rather keep this than get a real bike.” Hearing this, I gave her a big hug(拥抱)文章大意:文章讲述Rose希望圣诞节收到一辆自行车。 1What did Rose hope to get on Christmas Day?_答案:She hopes to get a new bicycle. It was at least two months before Christmas when nineyearold Almie Rose told her father and me that she wanted a new bicycle. She hopes to get a new bicycle.2Why didnt Roses parents buy a bicycle for her?_答案:Because they thought Almie might have lost interest in getting a bicycle. As Christmas drew nearer, her dream for a bicycle seemed to fade(逐渐消失), for she didnt mention it again. Because they thought Almie might have lost interest in getting a bicycle.3What did Roses father decide to do then?_答案:He decided to make a little bicycle out of clay and ask her to trade in it with him for a real one. Suddenly my husband had a good idea. “ What if I make a little bicycle out of clay(泥) and write a note to tell her that she could trade the clay model in for a real bike?” He decided to make a little bicycle out of clay and ask her to trade in it with him for a real one.4When did Rose open the box and read the note in a loud voice?_答案:On Christmas morning. On Christmas morning, we were excited for Almie to open the little box with the beautiful red and white clay bike and the note. EReduce your sense of your own value.FThink of others more than yourself.Secrets of Being Popular To be honest, most people liked to be respected and admired by other people. These are some suggestions which can help you win popularity naturally: 1_ It is a big mistake try to be liked by all people. When you want to impress other people and please them, it is impossible to avoid insincere praise. This will impress people for a short time, but it can not be continued for a long time. You have to base friendship on being your natural self and avoid always trying to win other peoples respect and admiration. 2_ People appreciate those who are considerate of others. If you only talk about yourself and your achievements, people will try to avoid you. People naturally respect those who are willing to spend time listening to others. Only when we put other peoples needs before our own can we bee well received by them. 3_ There is no need to pretend to be someone you are actually not. If you are satisfied with who you are, you will allow your natural qualities to be noticed by other people, and this is what will naturally attract them. All real happiness and success e from inside. Besides, people will like you only when you accept yourself.4_ Learn to be generous and forgiving when you deal with other people. Forget their small mistakes, but appreciate their good points. If you go out of your way to appreciate the good qualities of others, then people will begin to like your generous spirit and be friendly with you. 5_ Some people try to impress people by appearing to be wise and talking all about their own achievements. But when you enlarge your sense of your own value, you only increase your popularity with yourself. If you really do good things, there is no need for you to make your wonderful performance known to the public yourself. Others will do it for you. It is a big mistake try to be liked by all people可知我们不可能让自己被所有人所喜欢。 Only when we put other peoples needs before our own can we bee well received by them. There is no need to pretend to be someone you are actually not. Learn to be generous and forgiving when you deal with other people. But when you enlarge your sense of your own value, you only increase your popularity with yourself. If you really do good things, there is no need for you to make your wonderful performance known to the public yourself. Others will do it for you. (注意:每个空格只填一个单词)Some people believe that greed and selfishness has bee the basis of modern society, and we should return to the old traditions of family and munity then we will have a better life. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the above opinion? In this fastpaced world, many values are undergoing major changes. While people traditionally prioritize(优先考虑) caring, sharing and generosity in life and work, modern people seem to be more selfabsorbed and selfconcerned. Modern people act selfishly to survive the harsh petition of life. They say that it is a jungle out there. To survive, you have to fight with whatever means that e handy. Obviously greed and selfishness go perfectly well with such ideas. In a pany, employees do everything they can to get better pay and higher position, even at the cost of colleagues. We are in any way advocating any selfish conduct. It is just that people are pressured to act in a certain way due to outside influences. In spite of mon practice, it is hard to conclude that modern society is built on greed and selfishness, both of which are not newly invented vocabulary. In ancient times people also did greedy and selfish things though such behaviors were more condemned then. But we can not ignore the fact that people in the past lived a relatively more isolated life and faced less pressure pared with their modern counterparts. Are we happier to share with others and be generous to them? There is no fixed answer either. Some people take great pleasure helping and giving to others while others feel happy doing the opposite. But I personally think that people should not be too selfish. Caring for others can actually encourage the development of a mutually beneficial relationship. In conclusion, modern people appear to be more selfcentered than those in the past due to strong outside pressure. However, we should encourage people to know the importance of being caring and generous and to build a mutually beneficial relationship with others.
