Glad to meet you here again. Today we shall take up a new lesson. Unit 11 Could you please clean your room?Now look at the blackboard and read the target language for this unit. When you read pay attention to the structure of the sentence.Could you please sweep the floor?.Yes, sure. .Could I please borrow the car?.No, you cant.You have to do your homework.To make polite request and to ask for permission is very mon in our everyday life. At school, at home, on the bus, or in a supermarket, anywhere, anytime when you make polite request or ask for permission you may use the structures “ Could you please?” or “ Could I please?”Lets make sentences using could for polite request and could for permission.1a Doing pairworkHow many chores do you usually do at home? Make a list, please.do the dishes sweep the floor take out the trash make your bed wash your clothes fold your clothes clean the living room buy some vegetables make the dinnerThen ask and answer in pairs about the chores. Do you usually do the chores?1b Listening and checkingNow look at the chart. There are three columns here, Chores, Mom and Peter. So he is asking for permission. What does his father say? Yes or No? Check () “yes” or “no”. And we can use the word “can” to ask and answer about Peter.A: Can Peter go to the movies? Now lets make a list here.Now please work in pairs to make a conversation based on the above information.3a Learning to use the key wordsWe use the two mon words “do” and “make” often. For example, we often say “do ones homework”, “make dinner” and so on. Now lets practice the two words. First look at the conversation and then fill in the blanks by yourself. 3b Doing pairworkNow please make a list of the chores you like or dont like to do. Then tell your partner why.A: I like cleaning the living room because I often take my friends home.B: I dont like washing the clothes because its boring.A: I like taking out the trash because I like to keep my place clean.4 Doing groupworkLets play the game in groups of four or five. Each group has some blank cards. Please write down each chore on each card and turn them down.The chores:One of you turns over one card and asks your partner to do the chore. The partner says “no” and gives reasons like this:A: Could you please do the dishes? B: Sorry. I cant. I have to practice the trumpet.If you cant give reasons or excuse, you will be out of the game.
