Im starving!Teaching procedures:Step 1 Leading-in and Vocabulary1. Show four pictures taken in Europe, and ask the students if they know where the photos are taken, and if they like travelling.Good morning/ afternoon class, here Id like to show some pictures to you, and do you know where the pictures were taken? Do you like travelling?Where have you ever been to? Which city youve visited is the most fancinating one in your opinion? Why?2. This summer, some of the teachers in our school went on a travel to a beautiful city on the southeastern coast of the country, here Id like to share some picuters with you. Lets have a look and guess which city it is.Show some pictures to the students, meanwhile ask some questions, introducing some new words as well.Is it a modern city or a undeveloped one? - modernDo you think it is a lively city or a very quiet one? - lively(what is a lively city? What is lively? -Full of life and energy)What are the trees called in the picture? - coconut palmThey are trees grown in tropical areas or in very hot climate, right? So do you think the climate of the city may be hot in summer and warm In winter.Is it a city on the coast or inland?- on the coastThere is a place of interest in the city which is a small island called Gulangyu.Can you guess which city it is? Xiamen3. Good answer! Have you ever been there? If someone has ever been there, ask about their impressions of the city. What is your impression of Xiamen? All right, if you havent been there before, now youve got a chance to learn some further information of that city. John Martin paid a visit to his friend XiaoLi, whose hometown is XM. So this passage should be an introduction of the city. But before we read the passage, lets imagine, if you are XiaoLi, what you would like to introduce to John?Collect the students opinion, write down their answers on the blackboard.Location, climate, buildings, places of interest, people, education system, transport, gallaries, activities, different district, population, food, 4. Now, lets go through the passage quickly, and find out what aspects are mentioned.Allow the students 3 minutes to go through the passage, walk around the classroom and offer some help to the studentsStep 2. Reading1. Student scan the passage as quickly as they can, and then ask them to point out which aspects are mentioned in the passage.All right, are you ready to point out which aspects are mentioned in the passage?2. All right, since we have got the key words of Xiao Lis introduction of Xiamen, now lets read the passage aloud by yourself, meanwhile, please find out some more detailed information to fill in the chart on the scree. Give the students time to read the passage aloud and allow some time for them to find out the answer and check the answer.3. Students listen to the tape together and underline some new words, then allow them a few minutes to discuss. After that help them solve the problem.4. After helping the students solve the problem, ask if they still have any questions, if not, show some important sentences with some bolded words, ask the students to translate.5. Do you still have some other problems? Ok, since weve solved the problem fo the new vocabulary, lets do a test to see if we have grasped all the words.I have prepared a summary of XiaoLis introduction of his hometown, but some words are left out, can you try to use some proper words from the passage to fill in the blank?This is the first time John has visited XiaoLis hometwonXiamen. It has been six years since John and Xiao Li last saw each other and John thinks that this is one of the most attractive places that he has been to in China. And Xiao Li says he feels fortunate living there though the tourists in the summer can be a(n) nuisance. Gulangyu Island is a gorgeous island with some really interesting architecture. When they stopped they had lunch in a nice little fish restaurant since John was starving. Step 3 Post reading and consolidation As we have learned, Xiamen is really a nice city, do you wish to live and work in Xiamen in the future? Why? So we come up to an issue wether it is nice to live in a modern city like Xiamen. Nowadays, it is a very hot topic. Next, lets have a discussion and do a survey with students or teachers around you, to list the advatange and disadvantage of living in the downtown and in the coutryside. Step 4 Writing From Xiao Lis introduction of his hometown, it seems weve been to Xiamen and have an over view of the city, if John come to Qingdao, can you try to introduce Qingdao to him? As we all know Qingdao is a gorgeous seaside city as well, so you must have a lot that you are proud of to say. Here Ive got some pictures to help you. Lets have a discussion in the group of 6, each student give at least one sentence, then we come up to a passage of at least 6 sentences, which will give a vivid description of Qingdao. Are you clear? Lets get started.Show the pictures to the students and the Ss say aloud what it is. And allows them a few minutes to prepare. And ask some students to give their presentation. While the students discuss, walk around and offer some help.Step 5 HomeworkAsk the students to list out the advantages and disadvantages of living in the city and in the countryside.111
