沪教版2019-2020年八年级下学期英语期末考试试卷(I)卷姓名:_ 班级:_ 成绩:_一、 阅读理解(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分) (共4题;共30分)1. (6分)阅读理解 We wake up very early to go to school, maybe even earlier to meet with a teacher, complete our extracurricular(课程以外的) activities, come home to have a quick dinner, talk for eight minutes with our parents and do homework until we fall asleep. But then we remember we have to look at the American College Test (ACT) exercises one more time. Half asleep, we run downstairs to get the ACT books, and start studying. After this we finally get to turn off the lights and drift away to sleep. And then six hours later, we do it all over again. In my health class, my teacher told us that teenagers need at least eight to nine hours of sleep each night. The sad truth is, with so much to do every day, high school students cannot keep to this sleep schedule(安排).Let me ask you all a question: Doesnt it seem more humane(人道的) to give a teenager perhaps two hours of homework each night? This would allow us to have the eight to nine hours of much needed sleep. Or does it seem better to pile students with five hours of work a night? It leaves us very little time to relax, therefore reducing the time that we can sleep. In my opinion, the present structure(结构) of the junior year of high school doesnt work well. Junior year of high school is a time for growth. By this time many students have the ability to think creatively, and solve challenging problems. Homework is important for a students growth. But do we really need to spend countless hours a night doing it? Too much homework can only lead to too little sleep and too low an ability. I do think it is time to change the structure, so that we sleep at home and learn at school.(1)In the first paragraph the writer gives _. A . a picture of the present daily life of high school studentsB . an example of an ideal daily life of high school studentsC . a reason for high school students to live a busy daily school lifeD . a suggestion of what high school students should do to pass ACT(2)From the last paragraph we know that the writer thinks _. A . junior year of high school is the most important growth periodB . challenging problems are needed for a teenagers growthC . the ability to think has nothing to do with homeworkD . the present structure leads to students often sleeping in class(3)Why does the writer write this article? A . To prove the role of enough sleep in teenagers growth.B . To complain about the problems in the system of the ACT.C . To ask for a change for less homework and more sleep.D . To discuss the relationship between sleep and homework.2. (8分)阅读理解 A man once visited a temple that was still being built. He saw a sculptor making a sculpture(雕塑).As he watched the man work on the sculpture, he noticed that there was a similar sculpture lying nearby. He felt very strange and asked the sculptor, Why are you making two same sculptures? Do you need two to put in different places? No, the man said without looking up, We need only one, but the first one became damaged before I could finish it, so Im making a new one.The visitor picked up the damaged sculpture and examined it. But he couldnt find anything wrong with it.Where is the damage? he asked. There is a scratch(擦痕)on the sculptures nose. the sculptor said while continuing his work. The man then asked, Where are you going to place the sculpture? The sculptor replied that it would be placed on a 20foothigh platform(平台).If the sculpture is up that high, who is going to notice that there is a scratch on the nose? the man asked. The sculptor stopped his work, looked up at the man and said, I will know it.The sculptor chose to stick to a high standard of excellence in his work. Even if other people didnt notice it, it mattered to him that his work should be of the best quality. This is an attitude we should all work hard to keep.(1)Why did the visitor feel strange at first? A . Because he could take one of the sculptures.B . Because the sculptor was making two same sculptures.C . Because he thought the sculptor needed two sculptures.(2)The underlined word damaged in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to . In this they are like other animals, such as bees and birds. But dolphins are very different from almost all land animals. Their brain is nearly the same size as our own, and they live a long timeat least twenty or thirty year.Like some other animals, dolphins use sound to help them find their way around. They also make these sounds to talk to each other and to help them find food. We now know they do not use their ears to receive these sounds, but the lower part of the mouth, called the jaw.Strangely, dolphins seem to like man, and for thousands of years there have been stories about the dolphin and its friendship with people. There is a story about sailors in the 19th century. In a dangerous part of the sea off the coast of New Zealand, they learnt to look for a dolphin called Jack. From 1871 to 1903 Jack met every boat in the area and showed it the way. Then in 1903 a passenger on a boat called The Penguin shot and wounded (伤害) Jack. He recovered and for nine years more continued to guide all ships through the areaexcept for The Penguin.Today, some people continue to kill dolphins, but many countries of the world now protect them and in these places it is against the law to kill them.(1)Dolphins are different from many other animals in that they _.
