AUrsa Major is a constellation (星座) in the shape of a big bear, so it is sometimes called the Great Bear. Right above Ursa Major is Ursa Minor, or the Little Bear. Do you see something unusual about these bears? Their tails seem to be longer than ordinary (普通的) bears! The ancient Greeks had a story for how these long tails came into being.Zeus was the king of all the gods in the heavens. He led a very exciting life, traveling between the earth and the heavens. One day, as Zeus was walking through a wooded area on earth, he came upon young Callisto who was hunting. He thought she was very beautiful. Zeuss wife, Hera, was angry, so she used her powers to turn Callisto into a big bear.As a bear, Callisto missed her son Arcas very much. And the friends she used to hunt with now hunted her. One day, while young Arcas was hunting, he aimed his arrow (箭) at Callisto, not realizing that the bear was his mother. Luckily, Zeus was passing by at that moment and jumped between Arcas and Callisto. Zeus told Arcas to stop, and then changed him into a little bear. To keep mother and son together and out of harms way, Zeus threw the two bears into the night sky. They became the constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, or, as we like to call them, the Great Bear and the Little Bear. How did those bears get long tails? According to legend, the powerful Zeus stretched (拉长) their tails as he threw them into the night sky. 1Callisto was changed into a bear because_.A. Hera thought she was beautifulC. she did badly in huntingD. she challenged Hera答案与解析A细节理解题。 He thought she was very beautiful . turn Callisto into a big bear可知,Zeus觉得Callisto很漂亮,Hera以为他喜欢Callisto,吃醋了,就把她变成了熊。2How was Callistos life as a bear?A. Busy. B. Hard.C. Happy. D. Quiet. Callisto missed her son . now hunted her可知,Callisto变成熊后的日子并不好过。3. We can infer from the text that _.A. Arcas felt sorry for his motherB. Hera loved Callisto very muchC. the two constellations are close to each otherD. the ancient Greeks named the two constellations答案与解析C推理判断题。 Right above Ursa Major is Ursa Minor以及倒数第二段的To keep mother and son together可推知,大熊星座和小熊星座离得不远。4The text mainly tells readers _.A. the power of the gods in the heavensB. how the two bears in the sky were formedC. why the two bears in the sky have long tailsD. the relationship between the gods in the heavens答案与解析C主旨大意题。 BAstronomy is the oldest science known to man. Thousands of years ago man looked at the stars and wondered about the heavens. But man was limited by what he could see with his eyes alone. The Greeks studied astronomy over 2,000 years ago. They could see the size, color, and brightness of stars. They could see their places in the sky. They watched the stars move as the seasons changed. But the Greeks had no tools to help them study the starry heavens. Each new tool added to the files of astronomy; it helped man reach out into space. Until there were telescopes (望远镜), man knew little about the moon. They did not know that the planet called Saturn (土星) has rings around it. Their sight was so limited that they could not see all the planets. In the early 1700s, people thought there were only six planets. Before the spectroscope (分光镜), man did not know what kind of gases is in the sun or other stars. Without the radio telescope (电望远镜), we did not know that radio noises e from far out in space.Today, astronomy is a growing science. We have learned more in the last fifty years than in the whole history of astronomy.5The passage mainly tells us _.A. the spectroscope helps man know what kind of gases is in the sun and other starsB. there are nine planets in spaceC. there is much noise in spaceD. science cant grow fast without modern technology答案与解析D主旨大意题。 6Thousands of years ago, _.A. man watched the stars with their eyesB. telescopes helped man to study the starsC. man knew nothing about the skyD. man knew Saturn had rings around it答案与解析A细节理解题。 7. When the Greeks watched the stars, they knew all of the following EXCEPT _.A. the color of the starsB. the size of the starsC. the movement of the starsD. what the stars were made of答案与解析D细节理解题。 8Man now knows _.A. the moon has rings around itB. there are six planetsC. Saturns rings can be seen by human eyesD. radio noises e from far out in space答案与解析D推理判断题。
