(5分) Decisions, decisions! Our lives are full of them, from the small ones to the life-changing. The right to choose is central to everyone. Yet sometimes we make bad decisions that leave us unhappy or full of regret. Can science help? Most of us know little about the mental processes that lie behind our decisions. Luckily, what psychologists(心理学家)are finding may help us all make better choices. Here are some of their amazing discoveries to help you make up your mind.Consider your emotions. You might think that emotions are the enemy of decision making, but in fact they are a part of it. Whenever you make up your mind, your brains emotional centre is active. University of Southern California scientist, Antonio Damasia, has studied people with damage to only the emotional parts of their brains , and found that they were unable to make basic choices about what to wear or eat. Damasia thinks this may be because our brains store emotional memories of past choice, which we use to help the present decision-making.However, making choices under the influence of an emotion can greatly affect the result. Take anger, for example. A study by Nitika Garg of the University of Mississippi and other scientists found the angry shoppers were more likely to choose the first thing they were offered rather than considering other choices. It seems that anger can lead us to make quick decisions without much thinking. All emotions affect our thinking and motivation(动机),so it may be best to avoid making important decisions under their influence. Yet strangely there is one emotion that seems to help us make good choices. The American researchers found that sad people took time to consider the various choices on offer, and ended up making the best choices. In fact many studies show that people who feel unhappy have the most reasonable view of the world.(1) According to the text, what may help us make better decisions?A . To think about happy timesB . To make many decisions at a timeC . To stop feeling regretful about the past.D . To learn about the process of decision-making.(2) What does the underlined word “central” mean?A . 中心的B . 中央的C . 起决定作用的D . 后悔的(3) Damasias study suggests that _.A . emotions are the enemy of decision makingB . our brain has nothing to do with decision makingC . people with physical damage find it hard to make up their mindsD . our emotional memories of past choices can affect present decisions.(4) Why are angry shoppers more likely to choose the first thing they are offered?A . They often forget their past choices.B . They make decisions without much thinking.C . They tend to save time when shoppingD . They are too angry to bargain.(5) What do we learn from the text?A . Emotions are a part of decision-makingB . Sad people always make worse choicesC . No emotion seems to help us make good choices.D . (5分) (2017石家庄模拟) 任务型阅读You may think that inventions are far away from your everyday life. But in fact, almost everyone can invent. Its just that they do not realize that their idea could be the start of an invention. Once inventors see their ideas have some practical value, they dont let them run away. For example, the inventors of the dishwasher, American Josephine Cochrane, loved to give dinner parties. But she found it took too long to wash her dishes by hand. She decided that a machine could do the job faster. So, in 1886, she began to make one for herself. Here are the steps to create inventions. The first and most important step is to find the problem. Start by looking at what is wrong with things you see now and ask people around if they remember ever saying, “I wish someone would invent something for.” Then you might notice situations(情况) or things in need of improvement. The next step is to think about possible solutions. An invention is a new way of solving a problem. So think of many and unusual ways. You can often come up with a solution to a problem by looking at it from a different side. The hardest part of inventing is coming up with a problem and finding a solution. Once you have an idea, you can always get help building your invention. This problem-solving technique can also work in your everyday lives. So, why not try it in your studies, in your relationship with others, or even in the way you look at the world?(1) Josephine Cochrane found it took too long to wash her dishes _. They are very popular all over China. These talent shows give everyone an opportunity to show off their talents. For some lucky people, these talent shows may make them famous, and can even make them rich. However, there are also many bad sides. First, some young people just imitate(模仿) their favorite stars. They may forget about their own styles. Second, young people spend too much time on such TV shows. They always dream of being a star. So they spend less time on their studies. In my opinion, these shows are social(社会的) activities. Young people can take part in these activities to get social experience. But they should know that the chance of becoming famous is very small for most people. They should know that they should work hard at something more important, their school work.
