Hospital Play Specialists Association of Aotearoa/New Zealand8th Biennial International ConferenceBack to the Future: The role of the HPS in Aotearoa/New ZealandCompetencies and complexities - past, present and future.Friday 01 一 Saturday 02 April 2016Pre-conference programme, Thursday 31 MarchErnest and Marion Davis Library, Starship Childrens HospitalAuckland, New ZealandClosing date for abstracts: Sunday 08th November 2015Enquiries/Submissions to: hnsconference2oi6()Hospital Play Specialists Association of Aotearoa/New Zealand8th Biennial International Conference2016 Call for AbstractsHospital Play Specialists: who we are and what we do:Hospital play specialists work within health care teams to provide therapeutic play and recreation programmes for infants; children and young people, in order to assist them to: Reduce anxiety and gain confidence managing the hospital environment Express feelings, fears and misconceptionsEnhance mastery through play and preparation to cope with stressful events, e.g. medical and surgical procedures Maintain continued development and learningAs well, we: Support families and whanau, especially siblings Contribute to clinical judgements through observations of childrenPromote improved understanding of the value of play, and provide information and support to other professionalsThe Hospital Play Specialists Association of Aotearoa/NZ (HPSAANZ), formed in 1996, supports the work of hospital play specialists across New Zealand. The Association promotes best practice and ongoing professional development, and advocates for healthcare environments that enhance the wellbeing of children and young people. The Hospital Play Specialist Registration Council, a standing committee of the HPSAANZ, provides a framework by which practising hospital play specialists may seek to become registered.Abstract submissionAbstracts are invited for the following: Poster presentation: Posters will be on display for the duration of the conference. Authors are expected to attend in the allocated poster session timeslot in order to discuss their poster and answer questions Break-out Sessions:o Short papers: 45 minutes duration o Interactive workshops: 1.5 hoursPlease note:Presenters whose abstracts are accepted are required to register by Friday 20th February 2016 and commit to attending the conference. Where more than one author is named in an abstract, but not all are attending/presenting, then the person(s) presenting must register. An abstract will be withdrawn if the presenting author(s) does not registerIf unforeseen circumstances mean that a person is unable to attend, please identify an alternative presenter to give the presentation. Presenters are responsible for all travel, accommodation and related costsPowerPoint facilities (laptop/data projector) are included. However, there may be an additional charge for hire of TV/videosz DVD players, and for an internet connection if this is required forthe presentation.Registration costsFull registration (HPSAANZ members or affiliated organisations i.e. AAHPSr CLC, NAHPS) Early bird- must be received by Friday 26th February, 2016: Presenters$330.00Attendees (members)$370.00 Attendees (non-members)$450.00One day registration: Pre-conference programme:One day registration: Pre-conference programme:$200.00Additional costs, to be advisedSubmission guidelinesThe closing date for submission of abstracts is Sunday 08th November, 2015. Presenters are limited to two abstract submissions in totalAbstracts will be selected through a blind review process Presenters and institutions should NOT be identified by name or description in the abstract, outline or summary. Please do not use a specific name that is attached to your hospital. Instead use something like this author, this programme, this hospital in your submission to avoid identifying yourself or your programmeIf your abstract submission does not follow the submission guidelines, your submission may be eliminated from the selection processSubmission contentTopic: Abstract topics should reflect the overall conference theme1. Back to the Future: The role of the HPS in Aotearoa/New Zealand:competencies and complexities - past, present and future and fit within one or more of the following sub-themes: Attachment; resilience and copingGrief and loss Pain managementTherapeutic play/listening to children Innovation and leadershipPsychosocial care Working within the MDTCurrent practice/speciality/complex diagnosis Leadership - how to grow/develop a serviceEffective communication Self-caresWorking within cultural context of Aotearoa Interpreting current ECE framework/practices into Hospital Based ServicesTitle: Should be engaging and reflective of the topic2. Summary: A 50-75 word (maximum) summary of the presentation. This will be the description used in the conference programme if selected.3. Outline of presentation: An abstract (maximum 700 words), including each of the following subsections: Background/literature review including relevant background information and/or references to literature/research that supports the rationale for the topic, or discuss the lack of available informationPurpose of presentation clearly explaining the purpose for the presentation - why it is important/relevant to practice Relevance to sub-themes: Indicate the sub-theme(s) to which the abstract relates Research-based submissions including research methodology and results Non-research submissions: Explain the outcomes or impact of your idea/programme/topicOrganisation of presentation: Describe how you intend to present; including, for example, any interactive experiences.4. Equipment required, other than Powerpoint facilities: (There may be a charge for other AV resources or internet connection).5. References: Whenever you include a statement based on documents or resources that are not your own thoughts, the source must be properly referenced (i.e. journals, websites, books, internet resources). Use the APA format for references.6. Correspondence: All correspondence will be by email. Where there is more than one author, one person should be designated as the primary contact and all correspondence will be to this person only.7. Confirmation of submission: The primary contact author will receive email confirmation of receipt of the abstract. If you do not receive this within one week of submission, please email to check.8. Notification: Primary contact people will be notified via email of acceptance or decline of each abstract submission, by Friday 27 November, 2015.Abstract review processAbstracts will be considered by evaluating quality of content (background/literature review, purpose, outcomes and relevance to conference themes); quality of abstract organisation (complies with guidelines, well written, and orderly); and quality of writing.The closing date for submission of abstracts isSunday 8th November, 2015Enquiries/Submissions to: hDSConference2oi6()
