Study Proposal1. INTRODUCTIONFilm-making is the best way I know to translate all the pictures in my head to the real world - seeing the world in scenes. I started my intellectual odyssey in film-making with my undergraduate program in Drama and Film-and-Television Literature. During my study, I got a preliminary understanding of the development of Chinese film in the history of the movies, as well as the tradition of Chinese cinema and industrial practice. I found myself had been strongly attached to specific territory of film-making, which can be life-giving, with its unparalleled visual power. Therefore, I am determined to seek excellence in the profession by seeking the MA Screen: Directing, Writing program at your university. As the foremost program in alternative directing and writing, your program is a creative laboratory for producing works of social significance and artistic merit and seeks to produce graduates who challenge the current practices of film-making field. Such ideals are closely geared to my artistic temperament and outlook. I am particularly excited over the fact that your program encourages creation in directing and production, enabling students to understand the nature and functions of the film director's work, with special emphasis on contemporary documentary, independent narrative, and works arising out of both an artistic and social consciousness.2. PROGRAM OF STUDYMy principle in learning: Practice first, theory second , vision third I believe making good use of Eastern and Western cultural essence and the marvelous achievements of human civilization will let Chinese film arts get rid of the restriction of history, jump out of the box and catch up with the trend of the times. This is how I understand about film-making and how I would pursue my future film-making career. I have been consistently explored in chinese traditional dramas and films, studied the traditional operas like Kunqu opera, Peking opera, and Henan opera, and modern films such as pioneerism and realism movies. I would like to produce a modern film aborded the essence of realism, moodernism and Chinese traditional drana theories. At present, my career ideal is clear in my mind. In order to combine my own career objective with social development and accommodate a wide variety of interdisciplinary knowledge, I will comprehensively study the specific form of Hollywood-based movie, as well as the development of the Hollywood film industry, fission, crisis, a series of associated concepts, through a combination of the the various slices cases and related text learning. Thats the objective law and trends. I pick up this programme with the most advanced research facilities and world-class faculty, to upgrade my knowledge of film directing. Its quite convincible that my solid drama and film literature background will help me to understand more clearly the internal operation of film making. Furthermore, in my practices both on and off the campus, I have planned to involve some films and TV clips in cooperation with the director and other staff, to allow my imagination to soar, producing only what I deem to be the best and the most original with the limited time and cost. 3.
