Now lets go on to page 61 to put the sentences together to make a story. Remember to use words like and, so, but, because, first, next, and then and finally.Once upon a time, there was a little girl. Her name was Nuwa. She lived a long time ago. Her father was Emperor Yan. Nuwa loved to make things. One day she decided to make people. To do this she first took lots of yellow clay. Then she built people out of the clay. But this was too much work, even for a Goddess. So he took a rope and dipped it in mud and shook it so that drops of mud fell from it, and each drop became a man or woman. In this way nobles were formed from the clay models while peasants were formed from the mud droppings. Later after the world was filled with men and women the foundations of the sky started to fall and it was Nuwa who saved the day by melting five different stones and repairing it. 5 Read your story to another pair and listen to theirs. Closing by looking and saying Fairy tales are always exciting to you. You are never bored by fairy tales. So I am going to tell you one more tale in English. It goes like this: Once upon a time Part Two: Teaching Resources第二部分: 教学资源Background information for module 1 People and places1. Nuwa, the Goddess who made the Chinese People NAME: Nuwa, But varies from region to region such as Nu Kua, Ku Gua, Neu Kwa, Cang Jing or NYwa (the Y has an umlaut over it.) SYMBOLS: Chinese Dragon (ling), five stones, chariot drawn by two winged dragons and two green hornless dragons. USUAL IMAGE: This too varies. She is said to have the upper body of a beautiful woman while below the waist she is ether a dragon, fish or serpent depending on the tale. She is also sometimes depicted as a human woman in regale robes. RELATIVES: Pan Kun (father, though that is pushing it as everything was said to have come from Pan Ku, she just came from him sooner.) Fuxi (Brother / Husband. Pronounced Phu - She.) SYNODEITIES: Ptah (Egyptian), Visnu (Hindu), Yahweh (Judeo-Christian), Prometheus (Greek), DETAILS: Nuwa, or as she is known in other regions of China, Nu Kua, Cang Jing or Nu Gua is an example of a very old type of Goddess. One who takes a half human half animal form. The form that Nuwa was said to take depending on the story was that of a beautiful woman with the lower body of ether a fish, serpent or dragon. However as the Chinese are known as the Lung Tik Chuan Ren or People of the Dragon I would say that dragon is our best bet. Nuwa lived in a time shortly after the world had been formed from the remains of Pan Kun after he had split the original Egg of Chaos into Yin and Yang and spent 18,000 years growing the sky, the earth and himself. However other then her brother Fuxi there were no other intelligent beings. As Nuwa loved to make things she decided to make people. To do this she molded them from yellow clay, she built many of them, but this proved to be too much work, even for a Goddess. So he sped things up by taking a rope and dipping in mud and slinging it so that drops of mud fell from it, and each drop became a man or woman. In this way nobles were formed from the clay models while peasants were formed from the mud droppings. Later after the world was filled with men and women the foundations of the sky started to fall and it was Nuwa who saved the day by melting five different stones and repairing it. From one area and another of Ancient China there are many different legends about Nuwa, as she and Fuxi create other things, defeat evil black dragons and other feats. Sometimes she is depicted as half-dragon half woman, sometimes as an empress. But she remains form of the oldest and most powerful female deities from one of the Earths oldest civilizations. 2. The Friendship of the Tortoise and the EagleA Central African TaleIt was not often that the tortoise and the eagle met, for the one spent his days in the clouds and the other in the under a bush. However, when the eagle heard what a warm-hearted little fellow the tortoise was, he went to pay a call on him.The tortoise family showed such pleasure in his company and fed him so lavishly that the eagle returned again and again, while every time as he flew away he laughed, Ha, ha! I can enjoy the hospitality of the tortoise on the ground but he can never reach my eyrie in the tree-top!The eagles frequent visits, his selfishness and ingratitude became the talk of the forest animals. The eagle and the frog were never on speaking terms, for the eagle was accustomed to swooping down to carry a frog home for supper. So the frog called from the stream bank, Friend tortoise, give me beans and I will give you wisdom. After enjoying the bowl of beans the frog said, Friend tortoise, the eagle is abusing your kindness, for after every visit he flies away laughing, Ha ha! I can enjoy the hospitality of the tortoise on the ground but he can never enjoy mine, for my eyrie is in the tree-tops. Next time the eagle visits you, say, Give me a gourd, and I will send food to your wife and children too.The eagle brought a gourd, enjoyed a feast, and as he left he called back, I will call later for the present for my wife. The eagle flew away laughing to himself as usual, Ha ha! I have enjoyed the tortoises food, but he can never come to my eyrie to taste of mine. The frog arrived and said, Now, tortoise, get into the gourd. Your wife will cover you over with fresh food and the eagle will carry you to his home in the treetops.Presently the eagle returned. The tortoises wife told him, My husband is away but he left this gourd filled with food for your family. The eagle flew away with the gourd, little suspecting that the tortoise was inside. The tortoise could hear every word as he laughed, Ha! ha! I share the tortoises food but he can never visit my eyrie to share mine.As the gourd was emptied out onto the eagles eyrie, the tortoise crawled from it and said, Friend eagle, you have so often visited my home that I thought it would be nice to enjoy the hospitality of yours. The eagle was furious. I will peck the flesh from your bones, he said. But he only hurt his beak against the tortoises hard back.I see wh
