专题限时训练(二十一)文化教育型阅读理解(限时:25分钟)(一)A practical English Grammar is intended for intermediate(中级的) and postintermediate students. We hope that more advanced learners and teachers will also find it useful. The book is a comprehensive survey of structures and forms, written in clear modern English and illustrated with numerous examples. Areas of particular difficulty have been given special attention. Differences between conversational usage and strict grammatical forms are shown but the emphasis is on controversial forms. In the fourth edition, the main changes are as follows.1. Explanation and examples have been brought up to date.2. There is now more information on countable and uncountable nouns, attributive and predicative adjectives, adverbs of place, sentence adverbs, cleft sentences, prepositions, conjunctives, modal verbs, perfect tenses, infinitive constructions, the passive, purpose clauses.3. Some material has been rearranged to make comparisons easier. For example, parts of chapters on can, may, must, etc. are now grouped by functions; verbs of liking and preference have a chapter to themselves; suggestions and invitations have joined the chapter on commands, requests and advice.4. The content list now summaries every edition heading, and there is a new index containing many more references. In this edition the sign “” is frequently used to show a change of speakers in examples of dialogues. Although the sign “” sometimes connects two words or expressions with the same meaning, it is often used more freely, eg. to indicate a transformation from active to passive or direct to indirect speech. We wish to thank all at Oxford University Press who have assisted in the preparation of the fourth edition. We would also like to thank Professor Egawa of Nihon University, Japan, Professor Rene Dirven of Duisburg University, Germany and other colleagues for their friendly and helpful suggestions.London, November 1985 AJ.T., AVM1The grammar book mentioned in this passage is not suitable for _Aa middle school teacherBa primary school studentCa senior high studentDa college student2According to the passage, we know that his grammar book_Acompares modern English with old EnglishBgives a large number of examples to reduce difficultyCattaches more importance to controversial formsDpays little attention to strict grammatical forms3Which of the following statements about the changes is TRUE?AThis book keeps up with the latest usages of the American English language.BThis edition offers more information about pronouns.CIts not easy for us to find the information we need in this book.DOne particular chapter discusses verbs like “care, like, love, hate, prefer, wish”4When you see this line in the book, “Did you get a ticket? But if they use the computer too much, they may end up forgetting the exact strokes(笔画)of each Chinese character when writing on paper. Experts suggest people, especially students, write by hand more. Do you write by hand more or type more? In Beijing, students start using a computer as early as primary school. And computer dependence is more widespread among university students. Almost all their assignments and essays are typed on a computer. All the students interviewed say they usually use a computer. Its faster and easier to correct if using a computer. And thats why computers are being applied more and more often to modern education. But when people are taking_stock_in computers increasingly, problems appear. “When Im writing with a pen, I find I often cant remember how to write a character, though I feel Im familiar with it.”“Im not in the mood to write when faced with a pen and paper.”Many students dont feel this is something to worry about. Now that its more convenient and efficient to write on a computer, why bother to handwrite? Many educators think differently. Shi Liwei, the headmaster of a famous primary school in the capital said,“Chinese characters enjoy both practical and aesthetic(审美的) value. But those characters typed with computer keyboards only maintain their practical value. All the artistic beauty of the characters is lost. And handwriting contains the writers emotion. Through ones handwriting, people can get to know ones thinking and personality. Beautiful writing will give people a better first impression of them.”To encourage students to handwrite more, many primary schools in Beijing have made writing classes compulsory(必修的)and in universities, some professors are asking students to turn in their homework and essays written by hand.1. Which of the following can best serve as the title of the passage?A. The Importance of Handwriting and TypingB. To Type or to HandwriteC. Writing on a Computer Will Replace Writing by HandD. We can draw the conclusion from the passage that_A. more and more students will give up writing on a computerB. writing by hand will give way to typing by computer one dayC. more and more students will pay attention to handwriting D. the typing article better expresses ones emotion and quality(三)Millions of people pass through the gates of Disneys entertainment parks in California, Florida and Japan each year. What makes these places an almost universal attraction? What makes foreign kings and queens and other important people want to visit these Disney parks? Well, one reason is the way theyre treated once they get there. The people at Disney go out of their way to serve their “guests”, as they prefer to call them, and to see that they enjoy themselves. All new employees, from vicepresidents to parttime workers, begin their employment by attending Disney University and taking “Traditions 1”. Here, they learn about the companys history, how it is managed and why it is successful. They are shown how each department relates to the whole. All employees are shown how their part is important in making the park a success. After passing “Traditions 1”, the employees go on to more specialized training for their specific jobs. No detail is missed. A simple job like taking tickets requires four eighthour days of training. When one ticket taker was asked why it took so much training for such a simple, ordinary job, he replied, “What happens if someone wants to know where the restrooms are, when the parade starts or what bus to take back to the campgrounds? We need to know the answers or where to get them quickly. Our constant aim is to help our guests enjoy the party.”Even Disneys managers get involved in the daily management of the park. Every year, the managers leave their desks and business suits and put on special service clothes. For a full week, the bosses sell hot dogs or ice cream, take tickets or drive the monorail (单轨列车), and take up any of the 100 jobs that make the entertainment park come alive. The managers agree that this week helps them to see the companys goals more clearly. All these efforts to serve the public well have made Walt Disney Productions famous. Disney is considered by many as the best mass service provider in America or the world. As one longtime business observer once said, “How Disney treats people, communicates with them, and rewards them, is in my view the very reason for his fifty years of successI have watched, very carefully and with great respect and admiration, the theory and practice of selling satisfaction and serving millions of people on a daily basis, successfully. It is what Disney does best.”1. The first day they come to Disney parks, all new employees _A. begin as ticket takers B. must learn several jobsC. begin by receiving onthejob training D. have already attended Disney University2. The main goal of the Disney employees is to _A. learn all parts of the business B. keep their important guests happyC. be able to answer all kinds of questions D. see that their guests enjoy themselves3. Each year, managers wear special service clothes and work in the park to _A. gain a better view of the companys objectives B. remind themselves of their beginnings at DisneyC. set a good example for employees D. replace employees on holiday4.
