When I first started to use the e-mail system,I used to read all my e-mail. I didnt have much mail. I was very excited about receiving any e-mail. I gave my friends my e-mail address. Soon I had more mail than I wanted. Some of the mail was junk mail ( 垃圾邮件 ). I was worried. I didnt want my mail to control me. Ive tried some methods to help me get control of my mail. First, I check my mail at the same time every day. Also I try to allow myself only 15-20 minutes every day to process my e-mail. This doesnt always work, but I try. Sometimes I save the messages. Sometimes I just read them, maybe answer a few, and then delete them. Sometimes Im not at all interested in a message, so I dont even open it. I delete it right away. This is very much the way I go through the mail that the postal service delivers to my home. These methods are very simple. I have some friends who are very clever with computers. From time to time, they teach me new tricks for managing my e-mail. Ive also learned to transfer ( 转存 ) some messages to a disk so they dont fill up my mail files ( 文件夹 ). Then I can read them later and maybe use them in my work. Im still amazed at what e-mail can do for me! Im still worried, however, about having too much to read.( ) 66. It is the important type of retail( 零售 )by combining self-service with low prices. An average supermarket handles (买卖) thousands of edible things including vegetables, meat, fresh fruits, canned groceries, bakery items, frozen foods and dairy products. Some also carry items such as seafood and liquor. Non-edible things in supermarkets include household cleaners, paper products, health and beauty aids, and house wares. The markets are located in shopping centers, business centers, neighborhood areas and along highways. Self-service stores were set up in the US in the early 20 th century. The American merchant (商人) Michael Cullen opened the first supermarket, which he called King Kullen in 1930, in New York City. Supermarkets grow rapidly. Wider ownership of cars and home refrigerators and the appearance of packaged groceries contributed to the popularity( 普及 ) of supermarkets. Moreover, the general consumer appeal of the supermarket concept -large size, self-service, variety of goods, one-stop shopping, and low pricesensured their growth. Some people seem to think its for practicing grammar rules and learning lists of wordsthe longer the lists , the better. Thats wrong. Language is for the exchange (交流) of ideas and information. Its meaningless knowing all about a language if you cant use it freely. Many students I have met know hundreds of grammar rules, but they cant speak correctly or fluently (流利地) . They are afraid of making mistakes. One shouldnt be afraid of making mistakes when speaking a foreign language. Native speakers make mistakes and break rules, too. Bernard Saw once wrote, Foreigners often speak English too correctly. But the mistakes that native speakers make are different from those that Chinese students make. Theyre English mistakes in the English language. And if enough native speakers break a rule, it is no longer a rule. What used to be wrong becomes right. People not only make history, they also make language. But a people can only make its own language. It cant make another peoples language. So Chinese students should pay attention to grammar, but they shouldnt overdo (做过头) it. They should put communication (交际) first.( )76Language is used to _.
