Background information (10) Never say goodbye because saying goodbye means going away, and going away always means forgetting. Structure analysis of the text (10)The text is the authors recall of the most important and unforgettable experiences that came about when he was between 10 and 12. He had learned from his grandfather the profound meaning of Never say goodbye and became firm and strong-willed as a child. Part 1(Paragraphs 1 4) The author brings up the problem he was confronted with: he found it hard to overcome the sadness as the moment of parting drew near. So he turned to his grandpa for help. Part 2(Paras. 5-13) The authors grandpa, by narrating his sad experience of the loss of his eldest son during the war, illustrates how one can overcome the sad feeling resulting from the loss of someone dear to him by recalling not the moment of parting but the happy times spent together. Part 3(Paras. 14 20) By the way he behaved when confronted with another sad momentthe loss of his grandpa, the author shows us that he came to understand what his grandpa had taught him.IV.
