I love Robert Frost, especially “Mending Wall”, mostly because he is my dads favorite poet. However, personally I love Langston Hughess poem “Dreams” because it always brings happiness to me. I am also a big fan of the older poems, such as Spensers “One Day I Wrote Her Name Upon the Strand” because it is so simple, and “The Tyger” and “The Lamb” by William Blake because I love the language.Michael Ugulini51 minutes agoMy favorite poet is Suji Kwock Kim. Ever since I read her book of poetry “Notes from the Divided Country”, I have been a big fan of her clear and thoughtful writing. My favorite poem of hers is “Borderlands”, which she wrote in memory of her grandmother. It is a poem about her grandmothers experiences during the war.Loraaa1 hour agoHard to decide! But if I have to, Id say Emily Dickinson. Her life was so wonderful and her opinions about life are also interesting. Her understanding of nature speaks to the heart of anyone who loves the outdoors! I love to read Oor Wullie and The Broons. Very often Im smiling before I go to sleep.I decide to write about this in a blog because I find that so many of us go to sleep with stress. Before we go to sleep, we may run over the day in our minds, and worry about tomorrow. We also may watch the news on TV, read the news on our smart phones or tablets, or even answer work emails. But the news is rarely proclaiming(宣告) all the good thats happening in the world and work emails make us feel that were still at work. All these things may leave us a stressful sleep.Oor Wullie and The Broons are not the only things I ever read at night. I sometimes read novels but, with the odd exception, I mostly avoid anything that is too mentally taxing or stimulating late at night unless its something that inspires me or is clearly helpful in my life. And even if I do read something mentally stimulating, when I feel myself getting tired I lay that book down and pick up a trusty old Oor Wullie or The Broons for the last 10 or 15 minutes. Doing this makes my mind quiet and helps ensure I get a peaceful nights sleep. Reading about Wullie or Maw and Paw Broon is like a comfort blanket for me.Id suggest you find lighthearted reading as a comfort blanket at bedtime, especially if you find yourself stressed or depressed a lot of the time, or if you find difficulty winding at the end of a day. It is the thing that can gently turn your attention towards lightness and ease.If your material makes you laugh, then you may feel even better. Several studies show that laughter boosts happy chemicals in the brain, it strengthens the immune system, its good for the heart, and it is most definitely good for mental health. It even helps us improve our relationships. And if you do happen to pick up a copy of Oor Wullie or The Broons, I hope you find it just as entertaining as I do.【解题导语】本文是一篇夹叙夹议文。作者通过叙述自己睡前的一些阅读习惯,告诉人们如何减少睡前的压力以及睡前保持好心情的重要性。4What can we learn about Oor Wullie and The Broons?AThey make people run over the past days.BThey are the best books to be read before people sleep.CThey are extremely popular with young people.DThey make people feel relaxed and happy.D解析:细节理解题。根据第一段中的I love to read Oor Wullie and The Broons. It has since reached nearly 10,000 kids worldwide. No entry fee is required, but students who want to enter must be between the ages of 11 and 18.Students are required to create a piece that not only presents problems, but also communicates a message that encourages others to act.Students can compete in one of five categories(种类):visual art, poetry, prose, film and music. They are given a school year to work on their pieces, which are then entered into one of two categories:junior or senior.Irizarry says that visual art is the most popular category, followed by poetry. Winners receive scholarship(奖学金) awards of up to $1,500 and see their work appear in different places to help raise awareness about ocean health. When most people think about ocean science, they think about the tools that ocean scientists use. Irizarry has a different idea.“Art is a really powerful tool for people to connect with nature and to learn about the world around them,”she says. “It requires you to slow down, notice things, think, and ask questions.”“Making art,” Irizarry adds, “helps a person create a connection to the world. Why does our dining etiquette seem to be at an alltime low right now?“Overall, theres much less feeling about the common good, which means caring about your neighborwhether at home or in a restaurant,” said Steven Petrow, who writes articles for USA Today.Take the use of cellphones at the table. While a 2015 survey by the Pew Research Center found that 38 percent of those surveyed thought it was acceptable to use their phones while dining out, the increasing number of cellphone bans(禁令) in restaurants shows that restaurants arent putting up with it.However, some look on the growing use of cellphones as a sign that manners(礼貌) change alongside our society.“Manners change,” said the writer behind a food site The Takeout. “What we consider improper isnt set in stone.” She points out the other “rules” that have since become outdated nowadays, like saying “Sir” and “Maam”, as proof of this change.Yes, traditional manners are yet another thing being redefined(重新定义) by youth. “Younger people are growing up in a world with more flexible(灵活的) rules, and this spreads to the dining table,” said Daniel Levine, director of global trends consultancy The AvantGuide Institute.Whether you prefer highend restaurants or a fastcasual meal, the biggest reason behind the decline of manners may just be a numbers game.“I believe it is more likely for people to break diningrules because they go out and eat more often,” said Diane Gottsman, owner of The Protocol School of Texas. “Years ago, people stayed home and sat around the family table. Today, there are more people in the workforce, which makes it more affordable for socializing and eating out.
