To learn to use adverbs of manner to give more information about the way things happen.Teaching ProceduresSTEP 1 Having a free talkHave a free talk with the students. Elicit the use of simple present, talking about programmes, timetable, calendars.T: What day is it today? S: Its Monday. T: What day is it tomorrow? S: It is Tuesday. T: Whats the date tomorrow?S: Its December 8th. (Write the sentences on the board!)T: Oh! I have a lot of things to do tomorrow. Lets me take a look at my schedule (timetable). STEP 2 Talking about the scheduleShow the students the schedule for tomorrow. And then get them to talk about it. Tell them to use simple presents tense. TIMEACTIVITIES6:30 the first underground leaves. 8:00- 10:00give lessons to Class 1 and Class 211: 00 meet my friends from Xiamen 12:00 have lunch with my friends13:00return to school13:30have a meeting16:00 meet some parents in the office19:00Watch JixiaolanSTEP 3 Filling the blanksAsk the students to fill the blanks use proper forms of the given verbs. Tomorrow is (be) a busy day for me. Take a look at my schedule. The earliest underground leaves (leave) at 6:30, so I have to get up early. I give (give) Class 1 and Class 4 lessons from 8 to 10. At about 11:00, I meet (meet) my friends form Ximen at the Airport. Then we have(have) lunch at. I return (return) to school at 1 p.m., because I have (have) a meeting. STEP 4 Making a summaryMake a summary about how to use simple present to talk bout future. We use simple present tense to about definite future (My plan for tomorrow.), programs (My favorite TV play.), timetable (The early underground leaves at 6:30 and calendar (It is December 8th tomorrow.)Give a summary to the use of simple present tense here: We use simple present to talk about facts, truths, things we often do, programmes, timetables, and calendar. We also use simple present tense in adverbial clause of condition and time. If he es tomorrow, I will call you. (adverbial clause of condition)When he es tomorrow, I will call you. (adverbial clause of time)STEP 5 Talking about the school tripGet the students to talk about the school trip to Beijing Wildlife Park. Tell the students that they should use the simple present tense because it is a definite future. The bus leaves at 8 a.m.The bus arrives at 9 a.m.Birdwatching starts at 9.30 a.m.Lunch is at 12.30 p.m.We return to school at 5 p.m.STEP 6 pleting the articleGet the students to plete the article then check the answers together. STEP 7 Eliciting the adjective and the adverbTell the students that I have once been to the Beijing Wildlife Park, too. But I didnt enjoy it because it rained. Show the following picture and elicit the adjective and the adverb. It rained heavily. The rain was very heavy. In the same way, show more pictures and elicit more pairs of adjectives and adverbs. They are hard, last, deep, fast, long, far, well, first, pretty, early, high, wide, late and ugly. Ask them Are all the words end in -ly adverbs? The answer is no. Give them some example: friendly, lovely, lonely, lively. STEP 9 pleting the exercises on Page 85Get the student to plete the exercises on Page 85. And first get hem check the answers in pairs.
