She Is Not InvisibleSergwicks “She Is Not Invisible” is partly a thriller, partly a philosophical reflection on coincidence, but mostly, its the story of Laureth: a blind British teenager whose father, a famous author, has gone missing in America. She is not sure this is strictly legal, so she pretends not to be blind as they make their way through Heathrow airport and the streets of New York City.Six Bad Poets“Six Bad Poets” is a farce-in-verse(闹剧式诗句) by Christopher Reid, following the brave acts and misfortunes of a group of poets three men and three women, whose destinies(命运) are more closely connected than they themselves can know, in their attempts to deal with the risks of London literary society.Britain Against Napoleon This book describes how the British state successfully organized itself to overe Napoleon. For more than twenty years after 1793, the French army was supreme(最优的) in continental Europe, and the British population lived in fear of French invasion(人侵). How did Britain survive and win a generation-long war against a country which at its peak manded many times Britains own resources and manpower? In “Britain Against Napoleon”, Roger Knight looks beyond the familiar bravery of the army and navy to the politicians and civil servants, and examines how they made it possible to continue the war. The Beau Monde Hannah Greigs “The Beau Monde” tells the story of the worlds first fashion-obsessed(痴迷于时尚的) society in eighteenth-century London and takes us on a tour from court and Parliament (约会) to Georgian Londons parks, pleasure grounds and private homes, meeting a rich and colorful cast of contemporary characters along the way. It reveals the secrets of how membership of the new elite(精英) was won, maintained and sometimes lost. This book also shows how being fashionable was the key to power in a new social order. 56. The moment we hear of homeschooling, we think the child will have no opportunities to interact with peers(同龄人). However, in my friends opinion, we forget that when attending a regular school, the child is not into socializing all the while. The child is restricted to so many other activities. Studies take a major role in a childs life. The child hardly has the time to interact at school. The child might be meeting and studying along with many peers; however, how many kids interact with all the kids in a class? But in homeschooling system, as my friend mentioned, the kid has all the time and can plan his day accordingly. During the day the child studies just like other school-going kids but with no burden of homework and project work, the child has so much free time in the evening as to effectively interact and play with peers. The quality time the child spends in education is really impressive. Homeschooled kids have the opportunity to socialize more often as they have a lot of time in their hands. They can also make socializing a regular habit. Just as my friend said, her child goes to a neighboring park almost every day and has a set of friends who go there daily. Other children get back home to finish off homework and project work whereas her child who is already through with studies gets the opportunity to spend time with family members. When I heard this, I really felt how lucky the child was. Definitely the child had a better opportunity to socialize when pares with my kids. However, I might not consider homeschooling for my kid, as I am so used to the traditional schooling system and feel regular schooling the safest bet.61. They can study better.65. How does the passage mainly develop? A. By following the order of importance. B. By following the order of time C. By making parison. D. By presenting facts. (C) Feeling lonely? New research suggests you might want to find out that answer. Not only is loneliness an unpleasant condition, it can also harm the bodys immune system. The new study shows that people who are lonely experience more reactivation(重新激活) of hidden viruses in their systems than the well-connected ones. Lonely people also are more likely than others to produce inflammatory pounds(炎性化合物) in response to stress, which may cause heart disease and other chronic disorders. “Both, in different ways, indicate that the immune system is out of whack,” said study researcher Lisa Jaremka. Jaremka and her colleagues studied 200 female breast cancer survivors and 134 overweight, middle-aged adults with no major health problems. In the first study, the researchers analyzed the blood of the breast cancer survivors for antibodies against viruses. These mon viruses can remain inactive and symptomless inside the body. Higher antibody levels indicate higher levels of activated viruses. The results showed that the lonelier the participant, the higher the levels of virus antibodies in the blood. Jaremka said, “The immune system is unable at that time, for whatever reason, in this case loneliness perhaps, to keep that virus under control. In the second study, the researchers measured cytokines(炎性因子) in 144 of the breast cancer survivors as well as the healthy thought overweight middle-aged adults. The participants gave a blood sample and then experienced the stress of having to give a speech and do mental math in front of people in white lab coats. After the stressful speech, the lonelier the person is, the higher the levels of cytokine interleuking-6 are. This cytokine is important for healing in the short term, because it promotes inflammation. However, when cytokines react too readily, inflammation can be harmful. Chronic inflammation has been linked to many diseases. People who are lonely also tend to react more strongly to negative events in their lives. If lonely people experience daily life as more stressful, it may cause chronic stress, which in turn disrupts the immune system. The study indicates that those who feel close to friends and family can know that their health is likely getting benefits from those relationships. People who feel socially connected are experiencing positive outes.66. Why should frequent reaction of cytokines be avoided?A. Because it would make people more stressed.B. Because it can destroy the immune system pletely.C. Because it may cause harmful chronic inflammation.D. Because it would make breast cancer survivors overweight.69. According to the passage, lonely people are more likely to _.A. have had more negative experiencesB. bee more sensitive to negative events.C. feel more pressure from chronic diseases.D. react strongly to positive daily life.70. What is the main idea of the passage?A. Loneliness has its advantages and disadvantages.B. Lonely people tend to have negative thoughts.C.
