I am reaching out to you because we need your help. We want to end gender inequality, and to do this, we need everyone involved. This is the first campaign of this kind in the UN. We want to try to involve as many men and boys as possible to be advocates for change. I started questioning gender-based assumption a long time ago. When I was 8, I was confused being called bossy because I wanted to direct a play that we put on for our parents, but the boys were not. When I was 14, I started to be sexualized by certain elements of the media. At 15, my girlfriends started dropping out of a lot of sports teams because they didnt want to appear masculine. At 18, my male friends were unable to express their feelings. I decided that I was a feminist. This seemed unplicated to me. But my recent research has shown me that feminism has bee an unpopular word. Women are choosing not to identify as feminists. Why has the word bee such an unfortable one? Im from Britain and I think it is right that I am paid the same as my male counterparts. I think it is right that I should make decisions about my own body. I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and decisions that will affect my life. I think it is right that socially, I am afforded the same respect as men. But sadly, I can say that there is no one country in the world where all women can expect to receive these rights. No country in the world can yet say that they have achieved gender equality. These rights, I considered to be human rights, but I am one of the lucky ones. My life is a sheer privilege because my parents didnt love me less because I was born a daughter. My school did not limit me because I was a girl. My mentors didnt assume that I would end up nowhere because I might give birth to a child one day. These influences were the gender equality ambassadors that made me who I am today. They may not know it but they are the inadvertent feminists who are changing the world today. We need more of those.Men, I would like to take this opportunity to extend you a formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue, too. Because to date, Ive seen young men suffering from mental illness, unable to ask for help for fear it will make them less of a man, or less of men. Ive seen men made fragile and insecure by distorted sense of what constitutes male success. Men dont have the benefits of equality, either. Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive, both men and women should be free to be strong. This is what He For She is about. Its about freedom. You might be thinking: who is this Harry Potter girl? What is she doing at the UN? Ive been asking myself at the same thing. All I know is that I care about this problem and I want to make it better. And having seen what Ive seen and given the chance, I feel my responsibility to say something. Statesman Edmund Burke said all that is needed for the forces of evil to triumph is for good men and women to do nothing. In my nervousness for this speech and in my moment of doubt, I told myself firmly: If not me, who? If not now, when? If you have similar doubts when opportunities are presented to you, I hope those words would be helpful. Because the reality is that if we do nothing, it will take 75 years, or for me it will be nearly 100 before women can be expected to be paid as same as men for the same work. 15.5 million girls will be married in the 16 years as children. At current rate, it will be until 2086 before all rural African girls can have secondary education. We are struggling for a uniting world, but the good news is we have a uniting movement. It is called “He For She”. I am inviting you to step forward, to be seen and to ask yourself: if not me, who? If not now, when?Thank you.51. The campaign “He For She” aims to _.A. give women more freedom than men B. give men more freedom than womenC. involve as many men and boys as possible to live a free life.D. involve everyone to struggle for the end of gender inequality52. We can know from Emma Watsons personal experience that _.A. feminism has bee an unpopular word B. her parents didnt love her because she was born a daughter C. her mentors treated her the same way they treated boy students.D. she was called bossy because she didnt want to appear masculine53. What does the underlined sentence mean?A. Good men and women doing nothing leads to evil forces to develop.B. Good men and women need to do nothing to defeat evil forces.C. It is necessary for good men and women do nothing to bat(与搏斗) evil forces.D. The victory of evil force leads to good men and women doing nothing.54. In the speech, Emma calls on people to _.A. participate in the campaign actively and take actionsB. admit that men and women should be equally paidC. believe in her although she acted in the Harry Potter seriesD. pay more attention to men suffering from mental illnesses BIt had been a difficult move. Id left my family and friends in Indiana, the beloved state where Id lived most of my life. My new home in Florida was thousands of miles away from anything I knew. It was hot all the time. Jobs were hard to e by, but I was up for almost any challenge. At last, I taught in a special school where students have severe learning and behavioral difficulties. Another teacher and I had spent weeks teaching the children appropriate behavior for public outings. Unexpectedly, only a few students, including Kyle, had not earned the privilege of going. He was determined to make his disappointment known. In the corridor(走廊) between classrooms, he began screaming, cursing, spitting, and swinging at anything within striking distance. Once his outburst died down, he did what hed done when he was angry at all his other schools, at home, even once at a juvenile detention(拘留) center. He ran. People watched in disbelief as Kyle dashed straight into the heavy morning traffic in front of the school. I heard someone shout, Call the police! But I ran after him. Kyle was at least a foot taller than me. And he was fast. His older brothers were track stars at the nearby high school. But I could run long distances without tiring. I would at least be able to keep him in my sight and know he was alive. After several blocks of running directly into oning traffic, Kyle slowed his pace. He took a sharp left. Standing next to a trash bin, Kyle bent over with his hands on his knees. I must have looked ridiculous. But his was not a look of fear. I saw his body relax. He did not attempt to run again. Kyle stood still and watched me approach. I had no idea what I was going to say or do, but I kept walking closer. He opened his mouth to speak when a police car pulled up, abruptly filling the space between Kyle and me. The school principal and an officer got out. They spoke calmly to Kyle, who willingly climbed into the back of the vehicle. I couldnt hear what was said, but I didnt take my eyes off Kyles face, even as they drove away. I couldnt help but feel that I had failed him, that I should have done or said more, that I should have fixed the situation. I shared my feelings with a speech therapist who was familiar with Kyles history. No one ever ran after him before, Rachel, she said. No one. They just let him go. Things changed the day he ran and I ran after him, even though I didnt have the right words, even though I wasnt able to save him from the mess he was in. It was the day I didnt throw my hands in the air and decide he was too fast, a waste of time and effort, a lost cause. It was the day my mere presence was enough to make a profound difference. 55. Which one is true according to the passage? A. No teacher had ever run after Kyle before the author. B. Students were allowed to go out after they passed some specific tests. C. The author worked in a school where students were excellent. D. The author left her family to Florida because jobs were hard to e by in Indiana.56. The following descriptions about Kyle are true except . A. he was moved by his teacher who treated him with more patience and understanding B. he used to run out to let out his anger when he was in school, home or juvenile detention C. different from his brothers, he learned in a special school instead of a normal high school D. he had some behavioral difficulties and once moved from one detention to another57. Which is the correct order of the trace? He burst out when he knew he couldnt go out. I decided to run after him. Kyle stopped beside a trash bin. A police car came and Kyle left with it. He rushed into the heavy morning traffic. Kyle slowed his pace.I walked toward Kyle. A. B. C. D.58. The best title of the text is . A. Kyle, a boy with learning and behavior difficulties B. A school with special students C. The teacher who ran D. A terrible conflict CMoney matters, no matter who or where you are. So when Chinas currency the yuan was devalued against the US dollar for three straight days in mid-August, the world felt the effects. As CNN put it: “If China sneezes, the world catches a cold.” Why does it matter so much? The exchange rate is the term for the parison of two currencies. It says how much one currency is worth in terms of (换算) the other.“Exchange rates play an important role in a countrys level of trade. It is one of the most important determinants of a countrys relative level of economic health,” wrote Jason Van Bergen of Forbes. A higher currency makes a countrys exports more expensive and imports cheaper, and vice versa (反之亦然).Devaluation means the same amount of RMB can be exchanged for fewer USD. For example, on Aug 11, the exchange rate of RMB to USD was 6.23, which meant $1 was worth the same as 6.23 yuan. Two days later, the rate changed to 6.4, meaning the value of RMB had dropped by 2.7 percent. So what does a weaker currency mean for our lives? It first affects those who want to travel to, or study in, the US. If your former classmate is leaving for a preparatory (预科) school in the US at the end of August, it now costs about 1,800 yuan more to exchange currency for 10,000 US dollars than it did earlier this month. However, since many currencies have decreased in value, the value of yuan is still relatively high despite the recent devaluation. This means it costs 1,200 yuan less to get 10,000 Canadian dollars now than it did in March.Even if we dont have plans to travel abroad, though, we could still be affected. For exam
