Operating PoliciesSubject:Chemical HandlingDepartment: SecuritySection: 15Objectives:This procedures governs the Hotel staff who handle chemicals. Incorrect handling of chemicals will cause serious damage, this can be both to the individual and the property.General Safety Precaution1. Combustible & Flammable material:I. Keep material away from heat sources and other combustible materials.II. Smoking is strictly prohibited when working with or near the material.III. Store the material in a cool fire proof area.2. Oxidising Material:I. Keep oxidising material away from combustible material and store them in designated area.II. Keep oxidising material away form sources of ignition.III. Smoking is strictly prohibited when working near oxidising material.IV. Wear the protective equipment, including eye, face and hand protection.3. Poision & Infectious Material:I. Handle the material with extreme caution.II. Avoid contact with skin or eyes by wearing the proper protective equipment including eye, face and hand protection or other protective equipment.III. Avoid inhaling by working in well ventilated area and/or wearing breathing apparatus equipment.IV. Wash and shower thoroughly after using.V. Store the material in designated areas only.VI. Corrosive Material:I. Keep container tightly closed.II. Avoid skin and eye contact by wearing all necessary protective equipment including eye, face and hand protection and protective equipment.III. Avoid inhaling by using in well ventilated areas only and / or wearing the proper respiratory equipment.* Any injury sustained or illness contracted arising out of chemical handling must be immediately reported to the Management. The user department shall initiate immediately recovery procedure and take preventive measures to prevent such recurrences.5. Disposal Procedures:I. All empty and discussed containers of hazardous chemical will be returned to the suppliers for ultimate disposal.II. Pending collection by the respective suppliers, the empty or disused hazardous chemical containers will be stored in a well-ventilated safe place.III. User department will ensure that the above storage is kept to its minimum.6. Employee Information and Training:I. Employee Information and Training: (contd)II. It is other responsibilities area to: Inform the employees of any operations in their work area where hazardous chemicals are present. Train the employees in the method and observation they may use to detect the presence or release of hazardous chemical in their work area. Train the employees in the physical and health hazards of the chemical within the working area. Train the employees the measures to protect themselves which include work practice procedures and personal protective equipment. Working procedure for the safe use, storage handling and disposal of chemicals. To document the training session given to the employees specifying the data and time.
