111【学习目标】 1、了解世界文化遗产的基本情况 2、提高阅读能力,把握文章个段落主题。I. What is a culture relic? 何谓 “文化遗产”?Cultural relics are physical reminders of what different peoples valued in the past and continue to value now. Without these relics, we could not cherish cultural traditions as much or appreciate the lives of the people who practiced those traditions. Although we may not often consider it, cultural relics are not only the possession of one culture. In a larger sense, it can be said that they belong to all peoples. For these reasons, this unit describes cultural relics not from China but other places. Looking at it from another angle, it can also be said that cultural relics preserves some aspect of cultural heritage and each relic, regardless of whether the same hands created many examples of it, is still a unique cultural expression and contribution.Main idea:Paragraph1: the _ about the Amber Room: design, colour, shape, materialParagraph2: the _ to the Czar: a part of winter palace in St. Petersburg, a _ hall for important visitorParagraph3: the _ of the Amber Room in Catherir times: moved into Summer Palace, more added to its _Paragraph4: the _ of the Amber Room: the two countries were at war, Nazi German army stole the Amber Room, 27 wooden boxes were _ to a German city, Nobody knew it from then onParagraph5: the _ of the Amber Room: a new one but the same as the old built by the two countries, for _ the 300th birthday of PetersburgReading: Read the passage and fill in the blanksThe Amber Room, the gift from Frederick William I to Peter the Great with an 1 (amaze) history, was given this name because several tons of amber were used to make it. The design of the room was of the fancy style popular in those days. It was also a treasure 2 (decorate) with gold and jewels, 3 took the countrys best artists about ten years to make. 4 return, the Czar sent him a troop of his best soldiers. So the Amber Room became part of the Czars winter palace in St. Petersburg. Later, Catherine II had the Amber Room 5 (move) to a palace outside St. Petersburg where she spent her summers. She told her artists to add more details to it. Sadly, 6 the Amber Room was considered one of the wonders of the world, it is now missing. In September 1941, Germany and Russia were at war .There was not enough time for 7 (Russia) to remove the Amber Room. However, some of the Nazis secretly stole the room 8 . In less than two days 100,000 pieces were put inside twenty-seven 9 (wood) boxes. 10 is no doubt that the boxes were then put on train for a German city. After that, what happened to the Amber Room remains a mystery.限时阅读 We can achieve knowledge either actively or passively(被动地). We achieve it actively by direct experience, by testing and proving an idea, or by reasoning. We achieve knowledge passively by being told by someone else. Most of the learning that takes place in the classroom and the kind that happens when we watch TV or read newspapers or magazines is passive. Conditioned as we are to passive learning, its not surprising that we depend on it in our everyday communication with friends and co-workers.Unfortunately, passive learning has a serious problem. It makes us tend to accept what we are told even when it is little more than hearsay and rumor(谣言).Did you ever play the game Rumor? It begins when one person writes down a message but doesnt show it to anyone. Then the person whispers it, word for word, to another person. That person, in turn, whispers it to still another, and so on, through all the people playing the game. The last person writes down the message word for word as he or she hears it. Then the two written statements are compared. Typically, the original message has changed.Thats what happens in daily life. The simple fact that people repeat a story in their own words changes the story. Then, too, most people listen imperfectly. And many enjoy adding their own creative touch to a story, trying to improve on it, stamping(打上标记)it with their own personal style. Yet those who hear it think they know. This process is also found among scholars and authors: A statement of opinion by one writer may be restated as a fact by another, who may in turn be quoted by yet another; and this process may continue, unless it occurs to someone to question the facts on which the original writer based his opinion or to challenge the interpretation he placed upon those facts.1. According to the passage, passive learning may occur in _. A. doing a medical experiment B. solving a math problem C. visiting an exhibition D. doing scientific reasoning2. The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refers to _. A. active learningB. knowledge C. communicationD. passive learning3. The author mentions the game Rumor to show that _. A. a message may be changed when being passed on B. a message should be delivered in different ways C. people may have problems with their sense of hearing D. people tend not to believe in what they know as rumor4. What can we infer from the passage? A. Active learning is less important.B. Passive learning may not be reliable. C. Active learning occurs more frequently.D. Passive learning is not found among scholars.Reflection: _ Main idea:Paragraph1: the introduction about the Amber Room: design, colour, shape, materialParagraph2: the present to the Czar: a part of winter palace in St. Petersburg, a reception hall for important visitorParagraph3: the relocating of the Amber Room in Catherir times: moved into Summer Palace, more added to its designParagraph4: the missing of the Amber Room: the two countries were at war, Nazi German army stole the Amber Room, 27 wooden boxes were trained to a German city, Nobody knew it from then onParagraph5: the rebuilding of the Amber Room: a new one but the same as the old built by the two countries, for celebrating the 300th birthday of Petersburgamazing decorated which In moved although Russians itselfwooden There答案 1.C 2.D 3.A 4.B111
