Teaching Plan Lesson4 Car Culture Part 1: Analysis of the textCar culture is taken from Lesson 4 of Unit 9 in Senior High English Module 3.The passage talks about Traffic problems in Britain and some advice of Jenny. Driving a car is popular in modern times. However, it also causes a lot of problems. So it is important to make the students know the importance of protecting the environment.Part 2: Teaching AimsI: To develop the students abilities of speaking and reading.II: To talk about cars, traffic and traffic problems.Ill: To train the students9 abilities of studying by themselves and cooperating.IV: To learn some words about air-pollution and improve students, awareness of protecting the environment.Part 3: Teaching MethodsAs is known to us all, a good teaching method requires that the teacher should help Ss develop a good sense of the English language. For achieving these teaching aims, communicative approach and computer-assisted instruction are to be used in the course of this lesson. Try to limit Teacher Talking Time and increase Student Talking Time. So during this lesson, emphases are to be laid on Question-and-answer activity teaching method; task-based teaching and activity based teaching (individual work; pair work; group work; class work).Part 4: Teaching AidsMultimedia and a projector will be used to show students some pictures, some audio files, some topics, some listening and reading tasks. Part 5 Teaching ProceduresStep 1 .Greetings and ReviewGreet the whole class as usual and review the words that have been learned before.highway/construction/amount/physical/go up/admit/addicted on average/occupy/somehowAsk two students to write the English words. Check them and learn how to use them.Purpose: Get the students to review the new words and make preparations for the following study.Step 2.Lead-inShow students some pictures of cars and ask them to guess their brands. Use a girls words on a TV program, “I would cry in a BMW rather than laugh on a bicycle., to arouse students5 interest .Then try to lead the students to talk about the advantages of cars and think about the problems that cars can cause.Purpose: Arouse the students9 interest of study. Bring in new subject: Car culture.Step 3.ScanningScan the text and try to divide the passage into two parts. Lead the students to get the main idea of the text.Purpose: Get the students to grasp the information quickly and learn how to divide the passage.Step4: ListeningListen to the tape. Show some questions on the screen and let them know the traffic conditions in Britain. And then ask a student to answer the questions. Students will know the problems and move to the second part of solving the problem.Purpose: Improve the students5 listening ability. Understand the general idea of each part.Step 5. Intensive readingRead the passage carefully and answer some detailed questions on the screen. Get some detailed information of Jennys advice.Purpose: Further understand the text to find out some solutions to the problems.Step 6.DiscussingGet the students to know a special day In Town without My Car!”. Divide the students into groups to discuss what they should do on the day in the future and then share the results of their discussions.Purpose: Train the Ss ability of speaking and using language to express their opinions.Step 6.HomeworkWriting a passage about the advantages and disadvantages of owning a car, and how they will participate in In Town without My Car! Purpose: Improve students9 ability of writing.
