Unit 1 Women of achievement.阅读理解A(2017浙江)There are energy savings to be made from all recyclable materials, sometimes huge savings.Recycling plastics and aluminum, for instance, uses only 5% to 10% as much energy as producing new plastic or smelting (提炼) aluminum.Long before most of us even noticed what we now call “the environment,” Buckminster Fuller said,“Pollution is nothing but the resources (资源) we are not harvesting. We allow them to be left around because weve been ignorant of their value.” To take one example, lets compare the throwaway economy (经济) with a recycling economy as we feed a cat for life.Say your cat weighs 5kg and eats one can of food each day. Each empty can of its food weighs 40g.In a throwaway economy, you would throw away 5,475 cans over the cats 15-year lifetime.Thats 219kg of steelmore than a fifth of a ton and more than 40 times the cats weight. In a recycling economy,we would make one set of 100 cans to start with, and then replace them over and over again with recycled cans.Since almost 3% of the metal is lost during reprocessing, wed have to make an extra 10 cans each year. But in all, only 150 cans will be used up over the cats lifetimeand well still have 100 left over for the next cat.Instead of using up 219kg of steel, weve use only 6kg.And because the process of recycling steel is less polluting than making new steel, weve also achieved the following significant savings:in energy use47% to 74%;in air pollution85%;in water pollution35%;in water use40%.【语篇导读】本文是一篇说明文。回收利用比重新生产要节省大量的资源。文章以猫食罐头为例,通过对比分析不同的结果,说明了循环经济在减少环境污染以及能源消耗方面的优势。1.What does school, the poor relationship between parents and their children is very common.1.Or,do the strict family rules affect their relationship?Firstly,in most of the families in the US,both of the parents have to go out for work in order to earn more money to provide better environment for their lovely children.Unfortunately, this causes the rare communication between them and their children, since these parents always take a rest during leisure time. These parents and children cannot know deeply about each other. Then friction(摩擦) is easy to appear.2. Secondly, parents who ask their children to be absolutely obedient to them are also one of the grave causes of generation gap between them. Therefore, these children are not willing to communicate with their parents and most of these parents are not active to talk with their children.3.To solve these problems, the busy parents should devote their spare time to communicating with their children actively so as to improve their relationship. At the same time, they can also observe their childrens behavior in order to understand their childrens personality and reduce the quarrel between them.4. No doubt that can give a better image to their children since it can make their children feel free to chat with their parents. Then it is easy for the parents to approach their lovely children. Therefore,a close and harmonious relationship between parents and children appears. In conclusion,to have a close relationship between parents and children, the parents should devote their leisure time to talking with their children and observing their childrens personality and give their children the approaching images.5.A.Therefore,a wide generation gap comes into being.B.Thus,misunderstanding between them often occurs.C.Are these problems caused by the busy parents?D.Who are these problems more upsetting to?E.If so,this terrible phenomenon, generation gap, cannot occur any more.F.In fact most parents and children experience at least a little tension.G.Besides that, the parents should try to give up their absolute power in family. 2.A该空前面“both of the parents have to go out for work in order to.to appear”讲了孩子与父母摩擦的产生,紧接着就应该是讲其后果。选项A正是产生摩擦后的后果。3.B该空前面讲孩子与父母缺少沟通交流,紧接着就应该是讲其后果。选项B正是其后果。4.G该空上一段“To solve these problems, the busy parents should devote their spare time to.” Dear Chris,I am writing to tell you that an outgoing to West Hill will be held this Saturday morning, which all the students in our class will take part in.Additionally, there will be a few activities during the outgoing, such as climbing the hill, having a picnic together and so on.Would you like to join us?If so,Ill go to call for you at 8 oclock that morning.Looking forward to your early reply.YoursLi Hua5
