It is widely accepted that parents should raise their children more by _ than by anything else.A. contrast B. forceC. example D. nature【答案】C.2. Briggs will _ as general manager when Mitchell retires.A. get away B. take overC. set off D. run out【答案】B【解析】试题分析:句意:当米切尔退休的时候,布里格斯将接管总经理的位置。when Mitchell retires 这是时间状语从句,不能用将来时,而用一般现在时来代替;get away离开; take over接管;set off出发;run out用完,耗尽。 3. Large quantities of information, as well as some timely help _ since the organization was built.A. has been offered B. has been offeredC. have offered D. have been offered【答案】D【解析】考查主谓一致。 a large quantity of /large quantities of 后既可以加不可数名词也可以用可数名词复数,而谓语动词与quantities的数保持一致,“Large quantities of+名词”做主语时,谓语动词要用复数形式。 Large quantity of kids are going to study abroad. Large quantity of milk was sold out. 还考查了as well as。 Jim as well as his classmates is playing football now. The teacher as well as the students is going to go hiking tomorrow。 I am going to London, and my sister is going as well. 这种就前原则的类似的还有:如with, together with, as well as, but, except, besides, including等连接两名词或代词时,谓语动词与前面的主语保持一致。此外,as well as. He sings as well as, if not better than, Mary. 4. It may rain, but _ I shall go out; I dont mind the rainA. anyhow B. howeverC. whatever D. somehow【答案】A【解析】考查副词词义辨析。 5. They lost their way in the forest, and _ made matters worse was that night began to fall.A. it B. whichC. that D. what【答案】D【解析】本题中含有一个主语从句what made matters worse,其中的what引导起这个主语从句,同时在主语从句中做主语。 6. _ is no doubt _ Bob can win the first prize in the match.A. There; that B. It; thatC. There; whether D. It; whether【答案】A【解析】试题分析:句意:不容怀疑鲍勃能够在比赛中获得第一名。这里是固定句式there is no doubt that. 故选A。 即学即练:_ is no wonder_ he didnt want to go.A. There; that B. It; that C. There; whether D. It; whether 解析:B。 7. When he awoke, he found himself _ in the hospital and _ by an old woman.A. lain; looked after B. being laid; looking afterC. lying; being looked after D. laying; was looking after【答案】C【解析】考查分词做宾语补足语。 8. If we dont _ the problem, it will certainly grow.A. attend to B. contribute toC. devote to D. refer to【答案】A【解析】考查动词短语辨析。 attend to处理,注意;contribute to有助于,促使;devote to 致力于;refer to查阅,提到,指的是。根据后文的it will certainly grow可知,前面是“处理问题”,故选A项。9. The palace caught fire three times in the last century, and little of the original building _ now.A. remains B. is remainedC. is remaining D. has been remained【答案】A【解析】本句中的动词remain vi. 10. Its true that the old road is less direct and a bit longer. We wont take the new one, _, because we dont feel as safe on it.A. too B. thoughC. therefore D. while【答案】B【解析】考查副词词义辨析。 too太,非常;though虽然,可是;therefore因此;while虽然;然而;当的时候。 One day I was taking a bus. A study has found that where people stand is based on their social position on entering the lift.Rebekah Rousi, a Ph.D. student, did a study of lift behavior in two of the tallest office buildings in Adelaide, Australia. As part of her research, she took a total of 30 lift rides in the two buildings, and discovered there was a fixed order about where people chose to stand. In her research paper, she wrote that more senior men seemed to walk straight towards the back of the lift. She said “in front of them were younger men, and in front of them were women of all ages.” She also noticed there was a difference in the direction where people look during the ride. “Men watched the monitors, looked in the side mirrors (in one building) to see themselves, and in the door mirrors (in the other building) to watch others. Women would watch the monitors and avoid looking into others eyes (unless in conversations) and the mirrors.”Rebekah Rousi concluded that shyer people stand toward the front, where they cant see other passengers, while fearless people stand in the back, where they have a good view of everyone else.34. I have probably learned more valuable lessons from it than from school. When I joined the team freshman year, I didnt realize what I was getting into. Even though I had been playing since fourth grade and knew it was hard work, nothing would prepare me for the effort I would put into football that year. We worked all summer in the weight room and ran on the track to get in physical and mental shape before the season.See, football is more of a mental sport than anything else, so running on the track wasnt only about getting in shape, we would push our minds by running as hard as we could even if we were going to pass out. At the beginning, I was immature(幼稚)and only thought of myself, sometimes even gave up when I was tired or hurt. Then after the third game I had a season-ending injury. Imagine working all summer and then only being able to play three games! I needed surgery(外科手术)on my arm and at least five months to recover.Needless to say, I missed the rest of the season, but this actually helped me realize that since you never know when your last play will be, you should try your hardest in football and life. After freshman year I decided that I would always give my best effort. Playing varsity(校队的)football has taught me so much more than just what my assignments are on a particular play or how to block. I have learned to think about others first and realized how important working hard is. Being with all my friends, even sweating and bleeding with them, really made us bond as a group of hard-working young men who I know will succeed in life.38. What is the main idea of the passage?A. How the author dislikes the game of football.B. When the author began to play football.C. How the writer changed his attitude to football.D. What sport the author likes best.39. The author thinks football _?A. just a game B. of a mental sportC. hard to be out of-date D. not worth his effort40. In the third paragraph, the underlined phrase “getting in shape” probably means “_”.A. being healthy B. designing the playgroundC. losing weight D. measuring the track41. From the text we can infer _.A. the author joined the football team with a clear aimB. football only brought the author
