And while it costs nothing to be a shoulder to cry on, bighearted Britons go the extra mile and spend 168 on pickmeups (提神物品) to get their mate through a rocky patch(艰难时刻) like the breakup of a relationship.Theres a further 242 spent on presents to show how much they mean from gifts bought on holiday to treats for no reason. And distance does not break up a close friendship as BFFs spend a whopping (巨大的) 18,000 on travel to see each other despite being miles apart because of university, jobs and marriage. The study by cashback site TopCashBack found on average BFFs who wed can expect 431 spent on them and a further 283 on gifts when they have children. And they can rely on their pals to help out when they move house as they will obtain 127 worth of housewarming presents and takeaways as well as putting in a shift with the packing and unpacking. The survey based on a friendship lasting 40 years found more than eight in ten adults with a BFF felt their friendships were worth every penny.TopCashBack spokesperson Natasha Smith said, “Those friendships which stand the test of time are often the most important in our lives. However, they e at a cost. From train tickets once a month to flights and a new dress for a wedding on the Italian coast, the price paid for having a best mate can soon add up. But when we asked people to pare their friendship with the monetary investment, only 14% thought their friendship was equal to their investment with the vast majority thinking it was worth more.”【语篇解读】最好的朋友也许是无价的,但维持一段友谊却是高价的。 4. What does the underlined word in Paragraph 2 mean?AAmbitious. BGenerous.CTroublesome. DEnergetic. 画线部分后的“go the extra mile and spend 168 on pickmeups(提神物品) to get their mate through a rocky patch (艰难时刻) like the breakup of a relationship”就是对它的进一步说明。 B。5To keep the relationship, where do BFFs spend most money?ABuying birthday presents.BCheering up a friend in low spirits.CPaying for holiday gifts and other treats.DGoing a particular distance to visit friends. 根据第二段中的“blowing 4,679 on birthday presents”“spend 168 on pickmeups(提神物品)”以及第三段中的“242 spent on presents. from gifts bought on holiday to treats.”“spend a whopping (巨大的)18,000 on travel to see each other”可知,为了维持一段友谊,花在旅途中的费用是最多的,所以选D。6What is Natashas understanding of BFF friendship?AIts costly and unaffordable.BIts expensive but worthwhile.CIts rewarding but hard to keep.DIts changeable but worth possessing. 根据最后一段中的“Those friendships which stand the test of time are often the most important in our lives. However, they e at a cost”可知,Natasha认为,经受得起时间考验的友谊通常是我们人生中最重要的东西,但那是要付出成本的。也就是说与一生的挚友的友谊很贵但很值得。所以选B。7How is the passage developed?ABy listing figures. BBy giving examples.CBy analyzing causes.DBy making parisons. C(2018潍坊高考模拟)My main career has been in information technology: I was “the puter guy”. Where I live in remote northern Minnesota, good tech jobs were rare. Then I got divorced and found myself a single mother with two sons in school. Without a permanent job working on puters, I was concerned about my familys future. So I sat down with my sons to discuss whether we should move to where the higherpaying jobs are. But we decided to stay and Id go back to college for more training, even though it meant wed be living on less. While I work toward an education degree, I have bee whats called a Promise Fellow in a local middle school. Among the “promises” we make at the start of each school year is that the students will have a caring adult in their life, no matter what. My fellow “Fellows” and I dont teach. We do whats called “wholelife support” because our students need more than just academics to succeed. Why? Their lives arent easy. The remote counties I live and work in have experienced a huge downturn in the primary industry of iron mining. The poverty (贫困) experienced by my students and their families is often worsened by mental health problems, plus drug and alcohol abuse. With our attention, the students feel supported, Most of the kids have a lot of abilities and are smarter than they give themselves credit for. We take them to college campuses and get them to visualize their future. I had worked with two students in our 2016 graduating class at Northern Lights Community School. Both are going to college this fall. These are the same kids who laughed at me when I first mentioned college to them, so I know Ive played a role in their lives.【语篇解读】本文是一篇记叙文。 8What is the topic of the text?AThe life of a puter guy.BThe life of a single mother.CThe experience with kids.DThe experience with Promise Fellow. 9Why did the author want to leave northern Minnesota at first?ATo repair her marriage.BTo fort her children.CTo seek higherpaying jobs.DTo teach courses at a local college. 10What does the author stress in Paragraph 4?AWhy Promise Fellow is in great need.BWhy iron mining industry has declined.CWhy the remote counties suffer from poverty.DWhy families are addicted to drugs and alcohol. 11How do the kids benefit from Promise Fellow?AThey are physically helped.BThey are financially supported.CThey receive aid from colleges.DThey get cared for in life and academics. D(2018惠州市高三第一次调研考试)Following the crowd may not always be in a persons best interest. But new research suggests that teens who get along with their friends may end up healthier as adults.Scientists have known that close friendships help boost health. Thats true for both teens and adults. The finding inspired Joseph Allen, a psychologist at the University of Virginia, and his team to study whether experiences during teen years would influence adult health. So they followed 171 teens, starting when the kids were just 13. They interviewed each one every year for five years, and also spoke to these teens closest friends, who provided additional information about the quality of their friendships. The same 171 people were interviewed again at ages 25, 26 and 27. This time, the questions surveyed each persons overall health. When the researchers analyzed the data, they found a strong connection between a teens behavior and adult health. Teens who had close friends grew up to be the healthier adults. Whether teens held back their feelings or expressed them to close friends also influenced later health. Those who held back their feelings were more likely to be sick as adults. The connection held up even after the scientists accounted for other possible influences on health. Weight, family ine and drug use were all examined. So were mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. And in these people, such other factors did not explain adult health as well as teen friendships did.Getting along with the crowd may have benefits, says Allen, but there are also drawbacks. Teens who are more independent tend to do better at school and work. And peer pressure may lead some kids to engage in risky behavior, such as smoking, drinking or using drugs. Dealing with it is an ongoing challenge, Allen acknowledges. “Finding the right balance is the key. Teens shouldnt lose heart for not finding this easy.” And, he adds, “Parents need to be understanding about the pressures teens face.”【语篇解读】研究表明,与朋友较少或者没有朋友的青少年相比,有朋友的青少年在长大后更健康。 12Where can you probably read this passage?AScience fiction.BHealth column.CFashion magazine.DEntertainment newspaper. 13We can learn from Allens study that _.Amany other factors have a greater influence on adult health than teen friendshipsBmental health issues have nothing to do with adult healthCthe same 171 teens were interviewed each year from 13 to 27Dthe teens who couldnt express themselves grew up to be unhealthy答案与解析:D细节理解题。 14According to what Allen said, we can know that _.Ain order to do better at school, teens should not follow the crowdBthough its challenging for teens to deal with peer pressure, they should not give upCteens will engage in smoking, drinking or using drugs when facing peer pressureDparents should understand their teens and stop them going with friends答案与解析:B细节理解题。 15What can be inferred from the passage?AThere is nothing bad for teens to follow the crowd.BClose friendships are the most important for peoples health.CTeen friendships may help teens bee healthier adults.DAdult health is only influenced by teen friendships. 根据文章第一段第二句“But new research suggests that teens who get along with their friends may end up healthier as adults”可知,与朋友相处的青少年在成年后会更加健康。 .七选五(2018合肥市高三调研性检测)How to Set GoalsWhether you have small dreams or high expectations, setting goals allows you to plan how you want to move through life. Some achievements can take a lifetime to attain, while others can be pleted in a day. _1_ Determine your life goals. Ask yourself some important questions about what you want for your life.
