The state of being in love has even been pared to being sick or mad. A study by Professor Semir Zeki of University College London has found that love does affect peoples brains by making them feel great.Zeki studied young men and women who had recently fallen in love. He found that, when they were looking at photos of their loved ones, there was heightened activity in four areas of their brains. These areas deal with emotions, and one of them, in particular, is known to respond to drugs that cause feelings of great joy and excitement. Interestingly, the study also found a lack of activity in two other areas of the brain when the volunteers looked at their lovers photographs. One of these areas is linked to feelings of sadness, while the other is often active in people suffering from depression. It seems love really can be uplifting. The state of being in love, according to some scientists, may actually be good for your health. Although scientists know that being in love can make a person feel great, the exact influence of love on a persons health is harder to determine. However, scientists say that people do need love in order to live healthy lives.According to Dr. Thomas Lewis, people need to be in relationships because that is how we are designed. He says the brain can only maintain(保持) the overall stability of a persons immune(免疫) system, bodily rhythms, and heart if it receives input(输入) from outside the body in the form of emotional connections with others.Professor Antonio Damasio has a similar view. He says that love enriches a persons imagination and creativity, and makes a persons body work better. He also believes that love can even improve the bodys ability to fight against disease. Damasios wise words of advice are “ Choose love and you will live longer.”21What is the main idea of this passage ? _.A. love can really cause people activeB. love has an effect on songs and booksC. love is linked with emotionD. love is what we need22What does the underlined word “uplifting” mean? It means _.A. inspiring B. available C. cold D. mad23From the passage we can conclude that_.A. people write songs, poems and books to say love is the sweetest thingB. nobody but Professor Semir Zeki has understood love does affect peoples brainsC. being in love sometimes may make someone act as if he/ she were madD. love causes heightened activity in all areas of a persons brains BWithout proper planning, tourism can cause problems. For example, too many tourists can crowd public places that are also enjoyed by the inhabitants(当地居民) of a country. If tourists create too much traffic, the inhabitants bee annoyed and unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the countrys economy. It is important to think about the people of a destination (目的地) country and how tourism affects them. Tourism should help a country keep the customs and beauty that attract tourists. Tourism should also advance the well-being (health and happiness) of local inhabitants. Too much tourism can be a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry. This means that other parts of the countrys economy can suffer. On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs. Businesses can also lose money. It costs a great deal of money to build large hotels, airports, air terminals, first-class roads, and other support facilities (设施) needed by tourist attractions. For example, a major international-class tourism hotel can cost as much as 50 thousand dollars per room to build. If this room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel lose money. Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be support facilities as well, including roads to get to the hotel, electricity, sewers (阴沟) to handle waste, and water. All of these support facilities cost money. If they are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost.24Which of the following has most probably been discussed in the paragraph that goes before the passage?A. It is extremely important to develop tourism.B. Building roads and hotels is essential.C. Support facilities are highly necessary.D. Planning is of great importance to tourism.25Too much tourism can cause all these problems EXCEPT_.A. a bad impact on other industriesB. a change of tourists customsC. over-crowdedness of places of interestD. pressure on traffic26Not enough tourism can lead to _A. an increase of unemploymentB. a decrease in tourist attractionsC. the higher cost of support facilitiesD. a rise in price and a fall in pay27It is good for local people to be well aware that tourism will_.A. use up a large amount of water B. weaken their economyC. help establish their traditions D. help improve their life CHere is an astonishing and significant fact: Mental work(脑力劳动) alone cant make us tired. It sounds absurd. But a year ago, scientists tried to find out how long the human brain could labor without reaching a stage of fatigue (疲劳). To the amazement of these scientists, they discovered that blood passing through the brain, when it is active, shows no fatigue at all! If we took a drop of blood from a day laborer, we would find it full of fatigue toxins(毒素) and fatigue products. But if we took blood from the brain of an Albert Einstein, it would show no fatigue toxins at the end of the day. So far as the brain is concerned, it can work as well and swiftly at the end of eight or even twelve hours of effort as at the beginning. The brain is totally tireless. So what makes us tired? Some scientists declare that most of our fatigue es from our mental and emotional(情绪的) attitudes. One of Englands most outstanding scientists, J.A. Hadfield, says, “The greater part of the fatigue from which we suffer is of mental origin. In fact, fatigue of purely physical origin is rare.” Dr. Brill, a famous American scientist, goes even further. He declares, “One hundred percent of the fatigue of sitting worker in good health is due to emotional problems.” What kinds of emotions make sitting workers tired? Joy? Satisfaction? No! A feeling of being bored, anger, anxiety, tenseness, worry, a feeling of not being appreciated-those are the emotions that tire sitting workers. Hard work by itself seldom causes fatigue. We get tired because our emotions produce nervousness in the body.28What surprised the scientists a few years ago?A. Fatigue toxins could hardly be found in a laborers blood.B. Albert Einstein didnt feel worn after a days work.C. The brain could work for many hours without fatigue.D. A mental workers blood was filled with fatigue toxins.29According to the author, which of the following can make sitting workers tired?A. Challenging mental work. B. Unpleasant emotions.C. Endless tasks. D. Physical labor.30Whats the authors attitude towards the scientists idea?A. He agrees with them. B. He doubts them.C. He argues against them. D. He hesitates to accept them.31We can infer from the passage that in order to stay energetic, sitting workers need to _.A. have some good food. B. enjoy their workC. exercise regularly D. discover fatigue toxins DSmoggy weather has bee mon in China. But these days, air pollution levels in the north eastern city of Harbin surpassed the previous record levels. The city was essentially shut down after PM2. 5, fine Particulate(微粒物) pollution that is considered hazardous(有害的) . reached levels of 1000 micrograms per cubic meter-40 times the safety level remended by the World Health Organization. References to “feed people with smog” have bee popular on Weibo and there is a sarcastic(讽刺) play on the expression “serve the people”, as the two have a similar pronunciation. The impact of air pollution on people will be gradual. There wont be a sudden outbreak of symptoms, but normally three to five days after the smoggy weather occurs, there is a peak(高峰) in the number of people seeing doctors, Deng Ying, a doctor at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University was quoted as saying.32 As thick smog has bee a mon scene in Harbin, _ A. students there can go to school as usual B. residents in the city can see as far as 20 meters C. traffic lights can be easily visible D. the urban traffic has been seriously influenced33 When exposed to outdoor air pollution, what kind of disease can be caused?
