2019-2020年高考英语二轮复习 专题升级训练卷十四 阅读理解(三)第一节阅读理解A(xx江西重点中学盟校第一次联考)“Fathers should be neither seen nor heard,”wrote Oscar Wilde.“This is the only proper basis for family life.”Its hard to say what Wilde would have thought of this weeks cover photo or the pictures inside of dads and their children.Several clearly oppose the outdated idea of fathers as detached(使分开) from the parenting process and thats just what the photographers intended.Gregory Heisler, who did the cover photograph, says he wanted the image to show genuine affections. So,rather than use professional models,he went out and found some “real dads and their real kids”Adds Heisler:“Instead of doing some skilful, overproduced photographs,I wanted something more authentic to the experience of being a father.”This isnt the first time that Heisler,39,has conveyed plex ideas for the cover of TIME.His photographs have decorated the front of the magazine some 20 times, ranging from Olympic athlete Jackie JoynerKersee and director Davis Lynch to former President George Bush and Ted Turner for “Man of the Year” issues in 1991 and 1992,respectively.But this weeks TIME cover has special meaning,he says, because he and his wife had their first child,Lucy,16 months ago.The pictures appearing inside were all done by photographer Jeffrey Lowe.Although Lowe has not experienced fatherhood yet,he observed many warm moments of parenting by spending a lot of private time with each dad and child.Of all the pictures,Lowe was most deeply touched by the fathertobe embracing his pregnant wife. While most of the credit for the pictures rightly goes to those behind the camera, cover coordinator(协调者) Linda Freeman and assistant picture editor Mary Worrell Bousquette, who work behind the scenes, also deserve praise.Freeman, for instance, had the challenging task of making arrangements for the group portrait of child movie stars that appears on Page 62.Says she:“My greatest reward is working with these talented artists.”Bousquette edited the pictures that appear inside.“I wanted our story to show the many faces of fatherhood,”she says.At least in this issue, those fathers are seen as well as heard.Sorry,Oscar.1In this weeks TIME the photographers wanted _.Ato show Oscar Wildes view had gone out of dateBto show honor to the famous playwright Oscar WildeCto support Oscar Wildes viewDto say sorry to Oscar Wilde2In Oscar Wildes view,_.Afathers should stay actively involved in their childrens livesBthere should be distance between fathers and children in family lifeCwhat fathers enjoy most is family lifeDfathers arent sure about what they should do at home3What does the underlined word “genuine” mean?ArealBartificialCprofessional Dskilful4Jeffrey Lowe managed to show fathers feelings accurately in his photos by _.Atrying to experience fatherhood himselfBspending most of his time with his pregnant wifeCstudying the relationship between each member in a familyDmixing with many fathers and their children5Which of the following is TRUE according to this passage?AHeisler has conveyed plex ideas for the cover of Time several times.BMary Worrell Bousquette is a cover coordinator.CLowe was most deeply touched by pregnant wives.DThe author praises the work by the photographers and the editors.B(xx济南三模)Batteries are included, but the chargers not.The Nokia ECu concept phone doesnt need to plug in;it charges from any heat source.Designer Patrick Hyland says it can even work off the warmth of your pocket. The first time “it would take approximately seven hours to reach full charge, then after that its continuously charging by keeping the phone in areas between 86 degrees and 104 degrees Fahrenheit.” Thats one hot pocket.Hes put a thermogenerator(热偶发电器)inside the phone that transforms heat into electric potential energy. To better conduct the heat to that little power plant in your pocket, the ECu(E for energy,Cu for copper)is coated by copper backing with heat sinks like those normally used to keep electronics from overheating.Nokia doesnt have current plans to build the phone,so for now it remains a concept. But Hyland says hes open to anyone who wants to cooperate. For Americans this technology would certainly be convenient. It would also save a bit on energy bills and waste.“Annually, unwanted phone chargers produce 51,000 tons of waste in addition to the greenhouse gases created by the production of the electricity needed to charge them,” Hyland says.So a chargerfree phone is also a green phone.Though adapting our plugin habits would help a group of people, most cell phone related energy use es from leaving your charger plugged in all day unnecessarily. The real potential for chargerfree cell phone technology is what it could enable places where plugging in isnt an option, like rural areas in the developing world.Cell phones are spreading faster than power lines and bringing with them countless opportunities, aid and health advances.A phone like the ECu,if it ever es to be,would enable all manner of expanded aid and development by phone projects.Lets hope Patrick finds a partner.6What do we know about the ECu phone?AIt doesnt have a battery or a charger.BIt is properly marketed and sells well.CIts continuously charging from any area.DIt has a highly conductive copper cover.7Whats the function of the underlined part “heat sinks” in Paragraph 2?ATo give off heat.BTo measure heat.CTo turn up heat. DTo supply heat.8A chargerfree phone is friendly to the environment because _.Ait is just a conceptBit is selfchargeableCit brings convenienceDit is no waste of money9From the last two paragraphs we can know that _.APatrick is not ready to cooperate with othersBpower lines spread every corner of the worldCphone projects may help solve the energy crisisDphones like the ECu have huge potential benefits10What is the best title of the text?ADesigner Patrick HylandBNokia Concept Phone on SaleCCharging Your Phone from PocketsDBenefiting from Phone TechnologyCIts a nightmare for Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST):within a week, two students mitted suicide by jumping off dorm buildings.Officials from the university are reluctant to give interviews.“We had a hard time calming down students who were shocked at the suicides,” said Zhang Jingyuan, one official of HUST.“Media coverage may arouse some students negative emotions again.Suicide can be contagious,” Zhang said. The university reacted promptly to the first suicide on October 23.Advisors and class leaders conducted dormtodorm checks to find students suffering depression. Then psychologists offered oneonone counseling to them.Notice boards publicizing tips for identifying peers mental problems and offering help were set up in front of dorm buildings.Leaflets carrying similar information were handed out to each dorm. However, the second suicide came seven days later. Both students were described as men of few words.Their schoolmates didnt see anything to indicate suicide.Zhang revealed that the two students had been bothered by mental disorders. But the school didnt know this until the students close friends outside school and their parents unveiled the truth after the suicides.According to Zhang, there are only three fulltime counselors working in the universitys counseling center for its 60,000 students. He plained,“Its unrealistic to rely only on counselors to detect students mental problems.”Effective prevention es from longterm education for life instead of temporary intervention to meet an emergency, said Hu Yian.Hu delivers a course of lectures on life and death at Guangzhou University. He worries that universities have paid little attention to education for life.“Education for life helps students respect and love life so they wont resort to ending their lives when they have difficulties,” said Hu.According to Hu,the principles can be incorporated into everyday teaching.Hu is also concerned that some universities are conveying discriminatory message that will hold back students from seeking help. When HUST conducted the dormtodorm examination, students with poor academic performance were paid special attention. In March,Peking University also released a controversial policy, which required teachers to have a chat with students “with biased thinking”However,Hu suggested that students step out of their fort zone to seek reallife munication.11The underlined word “reluctant” in Paragraph 2 probably means “_”AeagerBunhappyCunwilling Dafraid12Why did the advisors and class leaders go to the students dorm?ATo learn the first suicide.BTo avoid the second suicide.CTo learn about the students suffering depression.DTo offer help to the students.13In which column of a newspaper would you most probably read this passage?AEntertainment BCampusCAdvertisement DCulture14Which one of the following is NOT the reason why officials from the university are reluctant to give interviews?AThe university reacted promptly to the first suicide on October 23.BThey had a hard time calming down students who were shocked at the suicides.CMedia coverage may arouse some students negative emotions again.DTwo suicides within a week is really a nightmare for the university.15Whats the main idea of the passage?ATwo students of HUST mitted suicide.BWhat can we do to prevent the students suicide?CThe reasons why the students mitted suicide.DThe dangers in the universities in China.DMost young people enjoy some forms of physical activities. It may be walking, cycling or swimming,or in winter, skating or skiing. It may be a game of some kind, football, hockey, golf, tennis,or it may be mountaineering. Those who have a passion(热情,激情)for climbing high and difficult mountains are often looked upon with astonishment. Why are men and women willing to suffer cold and hardship, and to take risks on high mountains? This astonishment is caused probably by the difference between mountaineering and other forms of activities to which men give their leisure.Mountaineering is a sport and not a game. There are no manmade rules,as there are for such games as golf and football. There are,of course, rules of a different kind, which would be dangerous to ignore, but it is this freedom from manmade rules that makes mountaineering attractive to many people. Those who climb mountains are free to use their own methods. If we pare mountaineering with other more familiar sports,we might think that one big difference is that mountaineering is not a “team game”We would be mistaken in this assumption. There are,it is true,no “matches” between “teams” of climbers, but when climbers are on a rock face linked by a rope on which their lives may depend, there is obviously teamwork. The mountain climber knows that he may have to fight forces that are stronger and more powerful than men.He has to fight the forces of nature. This sport requires high mental and physical capacities.A mountain climber continues to improve in skill year after year.A skier is probably past his prime(全盛时期)by the age of thirty, and most international tennis champions are in their early twenties. But it is not unusual for a man of fifty or sixty to climb the highest mountains in the Alps. They may take more time than younger men,but they probably climb with more skills and less wasted efforts, and they certainly experience equal enjoyment.16Mountaineering is a sport which involves _.Ahardship BcoldCphysical risks Dall the above17The main difference between a sport and a game lies in origin of the _.Auniform BactivityCrules Dskills18Mountaineering is also a team sport because _.Ait involves rulesBit involves matches between teamsCit requires mental and physical qualitiesDmountaineers depend on each other while climbing19Which of the following is TRUE?AMountaineers pete against each other.BMountaineers pete against other teams.CMountaineers pete against nature.DMountaineers pete against international standard.20What is the best title for the text?AMountaineeringBMountain ClimbersCMountaineering Is Different From Golf And FootballDMountaineering Is More Dangerous Than Other Sports第二节阅读表达(xx 南昌一中月考)1Interviewing is a skill that can be learned and the key lies in the “threePs” of planning, practice and preparation. Here are some tips on making a successful interview.2Prepare as well as you possibly can.Search the web and research the background of the pany and the people who you think are going to be interviewing you.Learn exactly what it is that they do and exactly how you would fit in with the pany. Most importantly, try to understand the “culture” of the pany. You need to municate in a way that mirrors their pany standards;this will show you can fit in that organization.Understand a little of what their petitors are doing. This will show youve bothered to find out where their position in the market is.3Just as important is your own personal preparation.Think about the key things you want to municate and why you would be ideal for the job.Think about you can sound enthusiastic, without sounding desperate;now you can sell yourself. If they ask you a question, such as “tell me about your CV”,and you cant do it fluently, you will find the interviewers will lose interest and you wont get the job.4During the interview,be a very good listener and if you can find some mon ground with your interviewers, you will have a big advantage over your petitors. The interview is basically an interaction between two people,so how you e across as a person is of utmost importance. As soon as you enter the pany building, make sure everyone you meet is left with the impression that you are a pleasant person.Sometimes an interview question might seem very simple but, dont be deceived, there is always a reason for them asking that question.5Generally wear a suit and tie,but it does depend on the job you are going for.You should have discovered, when you studied the pany culture, what is expected. For media panies, for example, being smart but casual might be the style they want. They are looking for someone who is fortable with himself or herself. In this case you should dress for who you are.6It is natural if you are nervous,in fact it is a good sign;it shows you are taking the interview seriously. However try to avoid nervous mannerisms, such as tapping your foot or playing with your hair.Positive body language is important,so adopt a good posture. If you slouch in your chair the interviewer will think you could be sloppy in your work as well.Positivity is essential in all aspects of your interview.1What is the
