Information for the study came from the mothers of 3, 000 5-year-olds. Researchers asked the women to keep a record of how many servings of soft drinks their children drank over a two-month period. The women were also asked to plete a checklist of their childrens behaviors. The researchers found that 43 percent of the boys and girls drank at least one daily serving of soda, 4 percent of the youngsters had four or more servings of soda to drink every day. Shakira Suglia is with Columbia Universitys Mailman School of Public Health in New York City. She worked on the study with researchers from the University of Vermont and Harvard University School of Public Health. She says they found that children who drank the most soda were more than two times as likely as those who drank no soda to show signs of aggression. “For the children who consumed four or more servings of soft drinks per day, we see an association between aggressive behaviors, attention problems and withdrawn behaviors. ”The aggressive behaviors included destroying possessions belonging to others, taking part in fights and physically attacking people. Doctor Suglia says its not clear why young children who drink a lot of soda have behavior problems. “We cant prove that this is a direct cause and effect relationship, having said that, there are a lot of ingredients in soda, a lot of ingredients that have not been examined in relation to behaviors. ”Earlier studies of young adults have found the highest sugar levels in those who carry weapons and show signs of negative social behaviors. 62. Children shouldnt drink soda. 第卷五任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入最恰当的单词。(xx南京高一检测)If you took the strengths of others and pared them to your weaknesses, would this make you feel good? The funny thing is that this is what most of us do at one time or anotherand some of us do it pretty often. Its a sure-fire recipe for a drop in self-confidence and for unhappiness. So how can we stop paring ourselves with others? Here are some tips Ive found useful. AwarenessMost often we do these social parisons without realizing were doing it. Its a natural act, I suppose. So the solution is to bee aware. If you focus on these thoughts for a few days, it will bee much easier with practice, and soon itll be hard not to notice. Stop yourselfOnce you realize youre making these parisons, stop yourself. Dont feel badjust admit the thought, and gently change the focus. Count your blessingsFocus on what you do have, and on what you are already blessed with. Count what you have, not what you dont have. Think about how lucky you are to have what you have, to have the people in your life who care about you. If you always want what others have, you will never have enough. You will always want more. Thats an endless cycle, and it will never lead to happiness. Instead, learn to realize that what you have is already enough. Focus on your strengthsInstead of looking at your weaknesses, ask yourself what your strengths are. Be proud of them. Work on using them to your best advantages. No one is perfectwe all know that. But we seem to feel bad when we dont reach perfection. You arent perfect and you never will be. Keep trying to improve, but dont think youll ever be the “perfect person”. If you realize that imperfection is what makes you who you are, you are already perfect.
