Do you agree with it? Why or why not?Why do we need friends? We shall enjoy a joke to answer questions: Whats funny? Does their team work well? Whats wrong with their teamwork?Two guys were working for the city. One would furiously dig a hole, and the other would e behind him and quickly fill the hole. They were drenched in sweat. A man watching from the sidewalk couldnt believe how hard they were working, but also couldnt understand what they were doing. Finally he said, “Im confused. You dig a hole and then your partner es behind you and fills it up again!” The digger leaned on his shovel and replied him, “Oh, it must look funny. You see, the lazy jackass who plants the trees is sick again today!”2. Questions.(1) Which things are always done in a group and why? Cite as many examples as possible.(2) Do you prefer doing things on your own or with your friends or in a group?(3) Which things do you prefer to do on your own? Which in a group? Why?(4) What are the advantages and disadvantages of teamwork?(5) Are you always active in your group? Why or why not?(6) What is important in a group work? Now read the article below.Teamwork There are four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybodys job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldnt do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.Answer for reference: should believe that we are a solidarity team. We should enjoy our teamwork!We should try our best to do our part well.We should learn to cooperate with each other and show respect to each other.To achieve an objective of our team, we are ready to make sacrifices.(7) How can we create the conditions for successful teamwork?Answer for reference: Setting the stage for great team performance is not merely a one-time activity. Rather, it is a process governed by three key principles: shared responsibility, basic norms of conduct, and a just reward system.(8) What factors will make team work fail?Answer for reference: Some have no responsibility. Some frequently discount the work. Some have bad attitude. Workload is not distributed equally. Some members do not contribute their fair share. Some are not willing to cooperate.Step 2 speakingYou will be divided into three groups and each group will be given one of the situations on page 93. Discuss how you would act and why. Keep the principles of teamwork in mind.Now I shall have one of your groups present your opinions and other groups are going to debate with the reporting group.Useful expressions to be usedI think, In my opinion, Id rather, I really prefer, I wouldnt feel happy if, Well, maybe, but Its hard to say, I doubt that, There is no doubt that, Do you think so? Im afraid I cant agree with, No, you are wrong thinking thatBeing honest, responsible and reliable is important, which will make others trust you. In turn, the trust will benefit you a lot. Not only will these qualities make you rise in the eyes of others in the long run, you will also feel better about yourself.Step 3 ListeningOne day, you will have a job and do something meaningful for others and enjoyable to yourself. I hope these principles will be of some use to you. By the way, do any of you have a part-time job? What do you think of a part-time job? What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a part-time job?Turn to page 92. Look through the questions and then listen to the tape. After listening, you will finish off these questions.Share your answers with your partners and mark the ones different from yours.Listen to the tape again and check your answers during your listening.Step 4. Closing up by writingTo end this period, write a short passage about teamwork.
