So she stopped the car and opened the door. “Do you want a lift?”she asked. The old woman nodded and climbed into the car. After a while, she said to the old woman, “Have you been waiting for a long time?” The old woman shook her head. “Strange,” thought the young woman. She tried again. “Bad weather for the time of year,” she said. The old woman nodded. No matter what she said, the hitchhiker (搭便车的人) gave no answer except for a nod of the head or a shrug. Then the young woman noticed the hitchhikers hands which were large and hairy. Suddenly, she realized that the hitchhiker was actually a man! She stopped the car. “I cant see out of the rear screen,” she said. “Would you mind clearing it for me?” The hitchhiker nodded and opened the door. Born in 1907 in a village near Mexico City , Kahlo suffered from polio (小儿麻痹症) at the age of seven. Her spine (脊柱) became bent as she grew older. Then, in 1925, her back was broken in several places in a schoolbus accident. Throughout the rest of her life, the artist had many operations, but nothing was able to cure the terrible pain in her back. However, the accident had an unexpected side effect. While lying in her bed recovering, Kahlo taught herself to paint. In 1929, she got married to Diego Rivera, another famous Mexican artist. Riveras strong influences on Kahlos style can be seen in her early works, but her later works from the 1940s, known today as her best works, show less influence from her husband. Unfortunately, her works did not attract much attention in the 1930s and 1940s, even in her home country. Her first onewoman show in Mexico was not held until 1953.For more than a decade after her death in 1954, Kahlos works remained largely unnoticed by the world, but in the 1970s her works began to gain international fame at last. 28. Secondly, its good for students physical and mental health. However, other people hold the opposite opinion. For one thing, they are worried that some students cant make good use of their spare time after school. Instead, they will waste their time going to the Internet Caf. For another thing, students cant get high scores with less homework. As a result, its challenging for them to go to key university. As far as Im concerned, I support this decision. It means we will have more free time. We can study what we want, take part in activities and build our character. But some of us are afraid of being forced to attend various training classes by our parents.
