2019-2020年高中英语第二册上Unit8FirstAid-Period2LetisreadGoals: Improve the students ability of reading prehension. Let the students get enough first aid knowledge and learn what they should do and what they should not do during the process of first aid. Let the students learn new words and expressions useful to talk about accidents and first aid.Procedures:Step I. Lead in by checking the homework given last time. ( lockstep work, approx. 10 min.)Hello, everybody! Last time you were asked to have a discussion about the answers to the questions in the quiz I gave you. Who likes to offer his reasons for the answers to the questions?T: What should you do if you find a person whose leg is bleeding, SA?SA: Press firmly on the bleeding point using a clean handkerchief. But if you are well trained in first aid, you can tie a piece of cloth round the leg above the bleeding point, and hold up his/her leg which is bleeding.T: What should you do if you find a person who has stopped breathing, SB?SB: Try to start his/her breathing. We must start the persons breathing within five minutes, otherwise the person will die. While doing this, lay the person on his/her back and close his/her nose with our fingers, making his/her breathe by a mouth-to-mouth way.T: What should you do if a person has drunk poison by mistake, SC?SC: Take the person and the poison container to hospital at once. Making the person throw up could bring the poison into further contact with the mouth and throat.T: What should you do if you find a person who has been hurt in a car accident, SD?SD: Leave him/her in the car. If they are moved by someone who is unskilled, they may be paralyzed (瘫痪) for the rest of their life, because they may have broken their back or neck. Try to get help from a doctor at once.T: What should you do if you find a person with a knife in his/her back, SF?SF: Leave the knife in. If you pull the knife out, you may cause more damage. If you leave the knife in, it may help control the bleeding. Naturally, get the person to hospital as quickly as possible.Step II Skimming for general idea. ( lockstep work, approx. 20 min.)1. I am glad that all of you have done the quiz well. But that does not contain enough information for you to do first aid correctly. Many hospitals remend that we use the letters DRABC to remember what to do when we have to think fast, when dealing with emergency. What do the letters DR ABC stand for? And what do they mean? Skim over the text “DR ABC” and try to plete the following table. Letters Stand forMeaning DdangerThe accident scene is no longer dangerous. RresponseTo know that he/she is conscious and can breathe. AairwayTo make sure a persons airway is open and it is easy to breathe. BBreathing To start the person who is not breathing at once, using the mouth-to-mouth method. C. circulatingMake sure the persons blood is circulating by looking for color, coughing, eye movement, and checking pulse, stopping bleeding.2. Read the text once again and try to get as much information about dealing with emergency as possible. Find answers to the following questions.(1) Is it important to learn first aid? Why? (Yes. Because seconds count in an emergency, and knowing what to do can mean the difference between life and death.)(2) What is the most important thing to keep in mind when dealing with an emergency? Reasons?(To stay calm. By staying calm we will be able to think about what to do and make better decisions. If we were to panic we would not able to help.)(3) What does the letter D (R, A, B, or C) stand for?(It stands for “danger (response, airway, breathing or circulating)”)(4) Whats the correct way of placing a body so that the airway is clear and it is easy to breathe?(a) Roll the person onto one side. Keep the legs strait. (b) Place the hand of the persons upper arm under his or her chin. (c) Bend the persons leg so that he or she will not roll over.)3. Reading the text again carefully and copying down useful expressions. Read DR ABC again carefully and copy down all those expressions useful to you.Useful expressions from DR ABC upside down, witness an accident, seconds count in an emergency, keep in mind, deal with, stay calm, to panic, make decisions, call an ambulance, to respond, save a life, to remend., stand for, an accident scene, be for, be conscious, tip ones head back, mouth-to-mouth method, check ones pulse, coverwith, to revive a person, offer training classes, to bend ones leg, roll over, contain information, manage to do somethingStep IV. Closing up by discussion. (group work, approx. 10min.)To end up this period lets fall into groups again and discuss the following question and plete the sentences followed. What are some of the most important things to do at the scene of an accident?First, we should keep calm, make better decisions and call an ambulance or the police.Second, we should check the DRABC and then give first aid if we know how to do it.Third, we should put the person in the recovery position and make sure that the airway is clear and it is easy to breathe.Last, we should cover the person with a blanket or a jacket to help him or her stay warm, stay with him or her and wait for the ambulance.Step V. Homework.Retell the text by trying to use as many useful expressions from DR ABC as possible.
