阅读理解A(xx银川检测) Crossing your legs is an extremely mon habit; most people dont even notice that theyre doing it when they sit down. While you may find it fortable to sit with one knee crossed over the other, it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of. A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The reason for this is that the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart and that crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. This causes your body to increase your blood pressure to push the blood back to the heart. You wont feel any immediate effects, but repeated, drawnout increases in blood pressure can cause longterm health issues. So, planning to sit for a long period of time? Dont keep your legs crossed. “Crossing your legs at the knee can also cause pressure on the major nerve in your leg that passes just below your knee and along the outside of your leg,” explains Richard Graves, a medical expert. This pressure can cause numbness and temporary paralysis (麻痹) of some of the muscles in your foot and leg, preventing you from being able to raise your ankle what we know as that “pins_and_needles” sensation. While the feeling of disfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage. So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文。 The reason for this is that the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart and that crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate.(第二段第二句)分析:本句是一个主从复合句。两个that引导的都是表语从句,“making it.to circulate”为现在分词短语作结果状语。 1What can we learn about crossing ones legs?AIt is a very bad social habit,BIt can do harm to peoples health.CIt is usually practiced deliberately.DIt can make others feel unfortable. 2According to the study, sitting with your legs crossed can _.Aaffect your blood pressureBresist gravity effectivelyClead to heart attacks easilyDimprove the function of legs答案与解析:A考查细节理解。根据第二段第一句“A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure.” A。3In the third paragraph “pins and needles” probably means _.Abeing highly flexibleBbeing a little tiredCserious muscle injuries Dslight sharp pains答案与解析:D考查词义猜测。 4What is the main purpose of the text?ATo pare mon habits.BTo evaluate the effects of an experiment.CTo give readers some advice.DTo introduce research methods. B(xx合肥市高三调研性检测)The effects of coffee consumption on health have long been a subject of conflict and uncertainty. Since the 1980s, some have spoken out against coffee as its harmful to health, while others have weled coffee for its supposed benefits to health. According to a scientific report, mild coffee consumption, three to five cups per day, can be taken as a healthy dietary pattern, along with other healthful behavior. The report also says that coffee consumption helps reduce the risk of heart disease and it protects against Parkinsons disease.According to Dr. Donald Hensrud of Mayo Clinic, high consumption of coffee has health risks. Dr. Hensrud mentions the dangers of high coffee consumption for people with a certain illness that slows the breakdown of caffeine in the body. Some studies said that drinking two or more cups of coffee daily can actually increase the risk of heart disease in these people. According to conclusions from a recent study led by Dr. Gregory Marcus, a doctor from the University of California, San Francisco, daily moderate consumption of caffeine, less than 4 cups, is not associated with these issues. Until the scientific munity reaches a general agreement on the effects of coffee consumption on human health, it will be up to the individual to decide whether the benefits of drinking coffee are greater than the risks. When informed of these possible health benefits and harm of drinking coffee, Harwood, a high school student stated, “Even though there might be some negative effects of drinking coffee, for the most part, coffee drinking sounds good for health. Not to mention I need coffee to stay awake.”【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了人们对咖啡是否有益于身体健康的几种不同观点。 Dr. Hensrud mentions the dangers of high coffee consumption for people with a certain illness that slows the breakdown of caffeine in the body. 句中that slows the breakdown of caffeine in the body为that引导的定语从句,修饰先行词a certain illness。 5What is the peoples attitude towards the effects of coffee on health according to Paragraph 1?ADisapproving.
