Thats the conclusion of a recent study from South Africas southern coast. There, in a cave lying above the sea, researchers from Arizona State University have found evidence that humans were behaving in surprisingly complex ways as early as 164,000 years ago. Our species, Homo sapiens, appeared an estimated 200,000 years ago. The cave held three important clues about the behavior of these Stone Age people. First, the researchers found the remains of all kinds of shellfish. The people who lived in the cave probably collected these creatures from rocky shores and tide pools and brought them to the cave to eat. The researchers propose the early Africans moved to the South African coast between 195,000 and 130,000 years ago. Around that time, the climate inland turned relatively cold and dry. Therefore, there were fewer plants and animals to eat away from the coast. When these ancient people moved to the coast, they probably experienced a major cultural shift, the researchers suspect. Thats because observations of modern huntergatherer societies suggest that men are more likely to hunt for big animals when people live inland. On the coast, women play a more important role in providing food by gathering plants and shellfish. As for the second clue, the researchers unearthed 57 pieces of reddish pigment(颜料). The researchers think that the cave habitants used the paint for coloring their bodies or for other ceremonies. Symbolic behavior is a clearly human feature. Finally, the search discovered over 1,800 stone tools, including wellcrafted blades(刀片). These blades came in various sizes. The smallest were just less than a halfinch wide. Ancient people may have attached these blades to the end of a stick to make spears or other tools. 28What is the passage mainly about?AAncient cave behavior.BNew evidence of ancient life.CThe history of human beings.DHuman behaviors development.29The early Africans moved to the South African coast with the main purpose of _.Aavoiding badly cold and dry weatherBseeking the cultural developmentCseeking enough food to live onDliving a newer and better life30According to the passage, the cave habitants_.Aknew how to use colors for decorationBmade a living largely by hunting animalsConly could made tools with rough bladesDcould hunt for fish in the sea with ships31After the early Africans moved to the coast, what probably happened to their culture?AWomens role was as important as mens role in families.BThey were no longer used to living inlands but living on the coast.CMens role was more important than womens role in earning food.DWomens role was more important than mens role in earning food.32The new discoveries in the cave should support the theory that _. Amodern human behavior developed smoothly fast from the ancient timeBmodern human behavior developed slowly from the ancient timeCSouth Africa is the birthplace of the earliest human beings in the worldDmodern human behavior is largely the same as ancient human behavior课时作业(十).1.Abe meant to意为“目的是,旨在”。 2B第一个used to指“曾经”,由but可知;第二个be used to指“习惯于”,由taking可知答案。 4A不定式to deal with与主语that company之间存在动宾关系,放在pleasant,difficult,easy,hard等形容词之后时要用主动表被动。 10C根据介词for可知,本题是问“为什么”,所以选C项,what .for相当于why。 “Its all up to you.” get across“使别人明白(自己的意思)”。 get on“相处”;get away“走开;逃脱”;get through“经历”。 16C 从空后的playing basketball and shopping for cartoon books and became great friends我们可以知道,“我”与他们过得很愉快。 pass time意思是“消磨时间”,agree on意思是“同意”,set about开始,着手。 17D 前面讲I met my husband,接下来“我”就结婚了。 18A In most case, stepkids live with their mom and stepdad而我们的情况是“孩子与父亲和继母生活在一起”,因此说unusual。 I wasnt his mom; I was another person in his life可知,“我”认为到了把各自的角色搞清楚的时候了。 to say hi在这里的意思是“问候一下”,因此是a quick email。. The cave held three important clues about the behavior of these Stone Age people. Around that time, the climate inland turned relatively cold and dry. Therefore, there were fewer plants and animals to eat away from the coast. The researchers think that the cave habitants used the paint for coloring their bodies or for other ceremonies. 根据第六段men are more likely to hunt for big animals when people live inland. On the coast, women play a more important role in providing food by gathering plants and shellfish. 111
