It comes from a country called Chad, which is north of the Central African Republic. The basenji was wellknown as the “silent dog” because for centuries no basenjis had ever been known to bark. Then at a dog show in London in 1953, a basenji actually barked. As well as being clever, basenjis are known for their natural courage and are still popular hunting dogs in Africa. But in America people keep them mainly because they are gentle and full of fun. The basenji has an unusual habit: it washes itself all over like a cat. It is a middlesized dog,16 or 17 inches high from the shoulder. It weighs about 20 pounds. A basenjis coat is short and silky. It may be brown, white, or gold, or a mixture of these three colours.1Basenjis were first found_Ain Africa, Europe and AmericaBin both Africa and AmericaCin central AfricaDin North Africa2What made Basenjis so special?AThey were born quiet dogs.BThey were a true friend of man.COne of them barked at a dog show in London.DThey were funny enough to make people laugh.3In what way are basenjis like cats?AThey make gentle sounds instead of barking.BThey are fond of people and look like cats.CThey clean themselves all over.DThey have short, silky fur.4Basenjis are good hunters because they are _AstrongBfearlessCthe right colorDthe right weightBWhether its a carol (圣诞颂歌)service or an evening of karaoke in the pub, many people will enjoy a good old singsong this Christmas .Singing aloud will not just lift the spiritsits good for your physical health as well. It also brings a great amount of happiness. It is impossible to sing well with a long face because it affects your pitch(音高)”Professor Graham Welch, who leads the International Music Education Research Centre at the University of London, has spent more than 30 years studying the effects of singing. He says that singing is a form of exercise. It means were also having a strong aerobic activity (有氧运动) when were singing, which results in increasing the feeling of pleasure while decreasing that of stress.“And communal singinglike in a singing group,a church service or even a singsong in the pubhelps improve our sense of selfrespect.
