(8分) 阅读理解 I read somewhere that we spend a full third of our lives waiting. But where are we doing all of this waiting, and what does it mean to an impatient society like ours? To understand the issue, lets take a look at three types of waits”.The very purest form of waiting is the WatchedPot Wait It is without doubt the most annoying of al Take filling up the kitchen sink (洗碗池) as an example. There is absolutely nothing you can do while this is going on but keep both eyes fixed on the sink until its full. During these waits, the brain slips away from the body and wanders about until the water runs over the edge of the counter and onto your socks. This kind of wait makes the waiter helpless and mindless.A cousin to the WatchedPot Wait is the Forced Wait This one requires a bit of discipline. Properly preparing packaged noodle soup requires a Forced Wait Directions are very specific. Bring three cups of water to boil, add mix, simmer three minutes, remove from heat, let stand five minutes. I have my doubts that anyone has actually followed the procedures strictly. After all, Forced Waiting requires patience.Perhaps the most powerful type of waiting is the LuckyBreak Wait This type of wait is unusual in that it is for the most part voluntary. Unlike the Forced Wait, which is also voluntary, waiting for your lucky break does not necessarily mean that it will happen.Turning ones life into a waiting game requires faith and hope, and is strictly for the optimists among us. On the surface it seems as ridiculous as following the directions on soup mixes, but the LuckyBreak Wait well serves those who are willing to do it As long as one doesnt come to rely on it, wishing for a few good things to happen never hurts anybody. We certainly do spend a good deal of our time waiting. The next time youre standing at the sink waiting for it to fill while cooking noodle soup that youll have to eat until a large bag of cash falls out of the sky, dont feel disappointed. Youre probably just as busy as the next guy.(1) While doing a WatchedPot Wait, we tend to _. A . keep ourselves busyB . get absent-mindedC . grow anxiousD . stay focused(2) What is the difference between the Forced Wait and the WatchedPot Wait? A . The Forced Wait requires some self- control.B . The Forced Wait makes people strictC . The WatchedPot Wait needs directions.D . The WatchedPot Wait involves body and brain.(3) What can we learn about the LuckyBreak Wait? A . It is less voluntary than the Forced WaitB . It doesnt always bring the desired resultC . It is more fruitful than the Forced Wait.D . It doesnt give people faith and hope.(4) What does the author advise us to do the next time we are waiting? A . Take it seriously.B . Dont rely on others.C . Do something else.D . Dont lose heart.3. (8分) (2019呼和浩特) 根据上文内容判断正误 A warm drink of milk before bed has long been the best choice for those wanting a good nights sleep. But now a study has found it really does help people nod offif it is milked from a cow at night. Researchers have discovered that night milk has more melatonin(褪黑激素), which has been proven to help people feel sleepy and less worried. In the study, mice were fed with dried milk powder made from cows milked both during the day and at night by researchers from Seoul, South Korea. Those given night milk, which had 10 times the amount of melatonin, were less active and less worried than those fed with the milk collected during daytime, according to the study published in The Journal of Medicinal Food.Night milk quickened the start of sleep and caused the mice to sleep longer. While the effect of milk harvested at different time has not been tested on humans up to now, taking melatonin medicine has been suggested to those who are trying to fall asleep at night.Studies have also showed that milk can be excellent for helping sleep because there is calcium(钙) in it, which helps people to relax.Milk is also sugarfree because it is the least fattening. The more fat you take in before bedtime, the greater burden you will have on your body at night.(1) According to the passage, the mice fed with daytime milk were less active. Its not a big deal even if you lose.B. Start the things you want to do right now.C. It always takes time to be a winner.D. You can always learn something when trying.E. Dont worry! Itll probably never happen.F. Dont compare yourself with others.Im forty now. I left school twenty-two years ago. Heres my list of five things I hope to share with you teenagers at school._I always wanted to be the best, and one way of feeling good about myself was to see how much better I was than others. There was only one problem with this. When I saw they were better than me, I felt terrible. Now I compare me with myself. I ask myself if I do things as well as I could._How much time do you spend worrying about the future? I used to worry a lot. Now I know most things you fear will usually never happen. Theyre just monsters in your own mind. Even if they happen, they will often not be as bad as you expected. In six months, you probably wont remember most of the things you worry about now._When I was young, I often failed to start things I expected to do because I thought theyd taken too long to finish. I always wanted to write a book, for example. But when I thought it might take me more than a year, I lost my enthusiasm(热情). It seemed such a long time. Now I know a year is nothing, if Id started that book when I was 16, I might have written 10 more by now. Im upset with myself for not even trying._As a young child you try many new things. If you fail, you try again and again until you learn. But at school you are usually encouraged to do things right. Then you stop trying new things in case you get them wrong. You are losing chances to challenge yourselves. I always remind myself: I had fallen off the bike many times before I learned to ride it._I hated losing when I was younger. Of course, its nice to win sometimes and to be the best at something. But we cant all be winners all the time. Learning to lose is one of lifes most important lessons. If you try your hardest, then you should never be angry with yourself.三、 完形填空 (共1题;共20分)6. (20分) (2019九上简阳期末) 完形填空 One day, I didnt have anything to do. I was 1.
