Premier Zhou Enlai in NankaiZhou Enlai was among the first students that studied at Nankai University. He studied at Nankai Middle School from August 1913 to June 1917. During the four years, he worked diligently and devoted himself to the benefit of the motherland. He was a student of nice character and extraordinary brilliance and he won respect from the students and the teachers. In September, he went to Japan to study and there he touched upon Marxism. In April 1919, he returned to Tianjin and in September he began to study Humanities at Nankai University. His student number is 60.After the foundation of the New China, he, as the Premier of the country, always kept an eye on the development of Nankai University despite his busy affairs every day. He inspected Nankai University for three times respectively in February 1951, April 1957, and May 1959. On his third inspection at Nankai University, he spent almost the whole day in inquiring information about the teaching and the scientific research of the university and he talked genially with the teachers and the students. He also made an important speech during this visit, encouraging Nankai University to have new atmosphere and new emphasis on teaching in the new era, and to guarantee the quality of teaching so as to serve better for socialism and for communism in future.
