The first works completed were later known as the “Sutra of the Forty-Two Sections,” (,四十二章经,),the first Buddhist sutra in Chinese.,Xuanzang (,玄奘,),During the early Tang dynasty, Xuanzang journeyed to in India for 17-year and brought back and translated the scriptures propagating Mahayana Buddhism. The proliferation of these sutras expanded the Chinese Buddhist canon significantly with high quality translations of some of the most important Indian Mahayana sutras.,Master Fa Xian (,法显,),: the first Chinese monk traveler,Master Fa Xian and his companions reached 29 countries and brought back a huge mount of Buddhist classics from 399 412 (Eastern Jin Dynasty). He devoted the rest of his life to translating these works.,Jianzhen (,鑒真,),Jianzhen visited Japan some six times from 743 to 754 and propagated Buddhism.
