Dido The legend about spring festival We stayed up late to see the new year in (熬年 守岁 ) The Spring Festival is also called Guo Nian in Chinese, meaning keep off the monster of Nian. The legend has it that Nian was a fierce monster back in ancient times. It look like a strong bull with a head like that of a lion. its original in history It is said that Shun, an emperor, lead his people to pray to the god for good weather for the crops, and they would held a memorial ceremony for good harvest. From then on, people take this day as the beginning of the year. It is said that this is the origin of the Chinese New Year, later called the Spring Festival. A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it closes the Advent season and initiates the twelve days of Christmastide. Christmas is celebrated by an increasing number of non- Christians, and is an integral part of the Christmas and holiday season Turkey Potatoes Christmas pudding Mince pies Fruit cake dinner Decorations Christmas tree Christmas wreath Christmas hat Socks What we will do In China, at New years eve, we would have a family reunion dinner. It is the most important meal of the year. At that night we would stay up late or all night, watching TV, treating each other with delicious foods and exchanging auspicious greetings. In west, at Christmas Eve, people will eat food, talk, watch TV and pray for the new year. In China, the old would give money to children as a lunar New Year gift, in Chinese called Yasuiqian In America, parents would dress up as Santa Clause to send a gift to their child. We send gifts to our friend, and they send cards to express blessings. Christmas pudding is just like our dumplings, which mean “may all go well with you” or “in perfect” in the next year.
