任务型阅读、缺词填空专项1People say teenagers are no good. They make too much noise in shopping malls; they drive carelessly up and down Americas main streets. And at least some of the time those things are true. But we shouldnt forget that there are hard moments in the life of a teenager too.I watched such a moment not long ago at a womans funeral (葬礼) which happened in a church. A teenage grandson stepped forward. Softly he began: “I want to share a few values that Nana taught me. She never failed to see light in any situation. When our family dog would attack her, what would Nana say? Oh, what beautiful markings that dog has. That was Nana.“She was a strong woman who often lived in the shadow(影子)of my grandpa, who was a successful businessman in this city. But she was the one behind the scenes(在幕后)who provided the strength and support for Grandpas career,” he said, with a voice now trembling. “That was Nanas way.”Finally, in a voice breaking free of sorrow (悲哀), he looked up and said, “Nana taught me courage. She put up a fight to the end, when she died peacefully, which is how she lived her life. That was Nanas way, and I hope I can carry on in the same manner.”There are no hearts as sensitive(敏感旳)as those of teenagers, because everything is happening to them for the first time. The trouble with teenagers is that they havent learned to be controlled. When that boy rose to speak about the woman who had been his dearest friend, his honest voice dragged(拉,拖)each of us out into the open where we could no longer hide. I was moved and learned a lot.TeenagersAccording to the passage, people dont think _1_ of teenagers.I seldom felt _2_at a funeral. But from the boys speech, I know his grandmother had great _3_ on the boy when she was aliveShe would always found something _4_ even in some unpleasant situation. She was a respectful woman who never_5_ off her talent in _6_.She had a strong will and would never _7_ her career till she died. This time at the funeral, the writer felt great differently. The writer was in deep _8_ at the moving situation. The writer has changed his _9_ on teenagers through this funeral ceremony. The only problem with the young is that they cant _10_ themselves well.123456789102 To dream is great, but its even better when that dream comes true. Are you ready to turn your dreams of success into a reality? Here are 3 keys to help you do that. Write your dreams down. Writing your dreams down is the first step in the process of making them come true. This will allow you to write down all the things that are floating around in your head. As you write, you will begin to know exactly what success is to you. This can be very useful for you. Make useful goals. As soon as you have your dream written down, you need to make goals that will help you achieve that dream. One of the biggest mistakes people make here is making the goals too big. I know you have big dreams, but you need to make your goals as small as possible, and as easy as possible. The more you break down your goals, the easier they will become. Be responsible for your dream. A lot of people dont take the responsibility (责任) of reaching their dreams upon themselves. Then they blame other people or the situation when their dreams never come true. The reality of it is that you are the only one responsible in the long run for achieving your dreams, no matter what situation you are in and what people you meet. You might even hear music in an office or on a farm.Scientists believe that music changes the way people behave (行为). According to(根据)some scientists, the sound of western classical(古典) music makes people feel richer. When a restaurant plays classical music, people spend more money of food and drinks. When the restaurant plays modern music, people spend less money. With no music, people spend even less.Scientists also believe that loud, fast music makes people eat faster. In fact, people order their food faster when the music gets faster. Some restaurants play fast music during their busy hours. This gets people to eat faster and leave quickly. Restaurants can make more money this way. Some scientists think that music makes you think and learn better. They say that music helps students to be more active. It is true that people learn better when they are relaxed. And listening to music can help you relax. The next time you hear music somewhere, be careful. Avoid having your child do homework with the television on or in places with other distractions, such as people coming and going. Make sure the things your child needs, such as some paper, pencils and a dictionary, are available. Ask your child if special things will be needed for some projects and get them in advance. Help your child with time management(管理). Find a set time each day for doing homework. Dont let your child leave homework until just before bedtime. Think about using a weekend morning or afternoon for working on big projects, especially if the project involves getting together with classmates. Be positive about homework. Tell your child how important school is. The attitude you express(体现) about homework will be the attitude your child acquires. When your child asks for help, provide guidance, not answers. Giving answers means your child will not learn the material. Too much help teaches your child that when the going gets rough, someone will do the work for him or her. Cooperation with the teacher. It shows your child that the school and home are a team. Follow the directions given by the teacher. Reward progress in homework. If your child has been successful in homework completion and is working hard, celebrate that success with a special event (e.g. pizza, a walk, a trip to the park) to reinforce the positive effort Title_1_ for parents on their childrens homeworkTopicBasic requirements_2_for homeworkA single roomQuiet and well-lit_3_ TV or other distractionsThings for homeworkThings _4_Some paperSome pencilsA dictionary_5_things for some projects ahead of timeTime managementDoing homeworkA _6_ time each day or a whole morning or afternoon on weekendsAttitudes to homework_7_of homework_8_ by parentsAccepted by children_9_from parentsDos and dontsProvide guidanceDont give answersCooperate with the teacherFollow the teachers directions_10_Successful homeworkReward the child with a special event.123456789106 Every year there are hundreds of earthquakes in different parts of the world. In Sept.1923, Tokyo and Yokohama were both destroyed by an earthquake and the fires that followed it. They had to be completely rebuilt. One of the most serious earthquakes was in Chinas Shanxi Province in 1556. It killed almost one million people. We measure an earthquakes strength on the Richter scale. The Richter scale was introduced in 1935 in Southern California in the USA. It measures earthquakes on a scale of one to ten. Any earthquake measuring five or more is usually serious. The earths crust (地壳) is made up of layers of rock called plates. As these plates move, they sometimes crash against each other, causing the crust to quake. In cities such as Tokyo, where small quakes happen quite often, many modern buildings are designed to be flexible so when the earth moves, they move with it. Earthquakes can also break up gas or oil pipes. This can cause fires to break out, which can do as much damage as the earthquake itself. Another effect(影响) of earthquakes is tsunamis (海啸). These are huge waves created by earthquakes beneath the sea. They can be many meters high and cause great damage to coastal towns and cities.China, Japan, Russia and the USA have the highest occurrence (发生) of earthquakes in the world.Knowing about _1_Two serious earthquakes in_2_An earthquake and _3_ fires destroyed both Tokyo and Yokohama in Sept. 1923.In 1556, a very serious earthquake_4_ in Chinas Shanxi Province. The way to_5_ an earthquakes strengthPeople can measure an earthquakes strength on the Richter scale of one to ten,_6_ in 1935 in the USA. Parents greet their children as soon as they are born, and its not long before babies know who is who among the people in their everyday lives. After only a few months, babies work out systems of greeting for meeting people they know and those who are unfamiliar. Have you ever seen a four-month old baby staring at you?The baby has learned to greet people and to respond to greetings at an very early age. What it has learned is the most important part of a greeting: the facial and body gestures that accompanythe smile. These are signals that indicate (象征) friendliness.Secondly, there is the intonation(语调)in the voice. Greetings are said warmly, with an expression anywhere between bight quickness and easy-going friendliness. The third part concerns(波及) the words chosen. Together, the words, the intonation, and facial expression signal a greeting. These indicators are the same all over the world. There may a little difference in the words used, but “Good day”, “ Bonggiorno”, “Nihao”, “Bonjour”, and “Guten Morgen” all include the word “good”. The common greeting from other languages is translated into English as “Good day” or “hello”. “Konnichi-wa” means “good day.”There are thousands of languages and cultures around the world, but though the words are different, they mean the same. And they are accompanied with friendly gestures, with smiles and with pleasant vocal intonations. You learned all of these skills and naturally in the first months and years of your life.So please greet other people with a smile, warm voice and kind words. Please greet other people whenever you can and wherever you are.TitlesGreetingsThemesWe greet to show _ 1_.IntroductionGreeting _ 2_ is our first and most important social events._3_indicators of a greeting1. Some ask people passing by for change and some just sit and wait to be given money. A few use aggressive behavior to earn money To solve the problem of aggressive begging, an “alternative giving” plan has been suggested. Ten blue money boxes will be placed in busy places such as the market and the railway station. It aims to encourage people not to give money directly to beggars but instead to give generously to local homeless causes. Supporters of this plan think it will be an effective(有效旳)way to solve the beggars alcohol and drug problems. But the police disagree the plan arguing that beggars who do not receive money may turn to criminality (犯罪) to feed their addictions(毒瘾). The homeless charity “Crisis” said the success of any plan will depend on its styleThey think that imaginative and positive plans can help create local understanding and sympathy instead of hardness. Most of the beggars dislike the plan because they think they will not get enough money from the boxes for their showers, food, and clothes. Begging is a big social problem both in developing and developed countries. Governments must play a big role in solving this problem. Training beggars to work and helping them to find proper jobs is one option. This is especially true for developing countries where many low-skill jobs exist. The general community should also be educated to see beggars not as dirty and dangerous, but as people who need understanding and help.Begging problemIntroduction to the begging problemSome beggars ask passers-by for money. Some beggars just sit and wait to be _1_ money. An “alternative plan” to the problemIn some busy places, such as the market and railway station, ten blue boxes will be placed to _2_people to give money to local homeless causes.Different _3_towards the suggested planSupporters of this plan think it very _4_ to solve the problems related to beggars. The police disagree the plan arguing the beggars may turn to criminality because of lack(缺少) of _5_.The homeless charity said that it remains to be seen whether this plan would work _6_.Most of the beggars dislike the plan because the money that they will get from the box will not be enough to _7_ for their showers, food and clothes_8_ to the problemGovernments must _9_take action to solve this problem by training beggars to work and helping them to find proper jobs. The public shouldnt look_10_on beggars but understand and help them.123456789109A new study suggests that the more teenagers watch television, the more likely they are to develop depression (抑郁症) as young adults. The researchers used a national long-term survey of healthy young teenagers of about 1316 to find out the relationship between media(媒体) use and depression. They based their findings on more than 4000 young teenagers who were not depressed when the survey began in 1995.As part of the survey, the young people were asked how many hours of television or videos they watched daily. They were also asked how often they played computer games and listened to the radio. Here was the result. The young people spent five and a half hours a day using media and more than 2 hours of that was spent watching TV.Seven years later, in , more than 7% of the young people had signs of depression. The average age at that time was 21. Brian Primack at the University of Pittsburgh medical school was the lead author of the new study. He says every extra hour of television meant an 8% increase in the chances of developing signs of depression. The researchers say they did not find any such relationship with the use of other media such as movies, video games or radio. But the study did find that young men were more likely than young women to develop depression given the same amount of media use.Doctor Primack says the study did not find out if watching TV causes depression directly. But one possibility, he says, is that it may take time away from activities that could help prevent depression, like sports and social activities. It might also prevent a person from sleeping well, he says, and that could have an influence. The study was just published in the Archives of General Psychiatry. In December, the journal Social Indicators Research published a study of activities that help lead to happy lives. Researchers from the University of Maryland found that people who describe themselves as happy spend less time watching television than unhappy people. The study found that happy people are more likely to be socially active, to read, attend social services and to vote.Process of the studyDetailsThe purpose of the researchTo find out 1 between media use and depressionAt the_2_ of the researchA survey was made among 3 4000 young people who were not depressed. The result of the surveyThese young people spent five and a half hours a day in _4_media and they spent over 2 hours 5 TVSeven years laterResearchers found 7% of the young people had a sign of depression.
