(Check the homework)三 Reading 阅读A The customs (风俗)in different countries are rather different. If I have dinner with a Chinese host, he always puts more food onto my plates as soon as I have emptied it. That often makes me not feel comfortable greatly. I have to eat the food even if I dont want to, because it is thought to be impolite in the West to leave ones food on the plate. I have already noticed that when a Chinese sits at an Americans dinner party, he very often refuses the offer of food or drink though he is in fact still hungry or thirsty. This might be polite in China, but it is not in the West at all. In the United States, it is impolite to keep asking someone again and again or insist (坚持)on his accepting something. Americans have a direct(直接的) way of speaking. If they want something, they will ask for it. If not, they will say, No, thanks. When an American is fed with beer by the host, for example, he might say, No, thanks. Ill take some diet, Pepsi-Cola (百事可乐) if you have it. That is what an American will do. So when you go to the United States, you had better follow the golden rule:When in Rome, do as the Romans do.请根据以上短文,回答问题:、1. British people usually shake hands the first time they meet. But family members and good friends kiss when they meet, but men dont usually kiss other men. In informal(非正式) situations, people only say “hello” to each other. When two Americans are standing and talking, they dont stay too close to each other. Americans look people in the eye, but they think it is rude to stare. And they dont point at each other with the fingers when they talk with each other. They think it is impolite. If an American is pleased with you, he will put his thumb(拇指) and forefinger (食指)into a circle. That means OK. But in Brazil, the very sign is thought to be rude. In Poland, a guest usually gives flowers to his hostess. The number must be an odd(奇数) one. Besides, the hostess isnt expected to remove the cover of the bunch of flowers. And usually, red rose is a sign of love. Usually we nod to express our agreement and shake our heads to show no.
