Many bats live a very long time for an animal of their size.European researchers are studying bats to understand why they live so long. They hope to find ways to fight the aging process (过程) in human beings.Last week, the group of scientists said they had found important biological (生物学) qualities in bat species (种类). The group studied bat chromosomes (染色体)a line of genes found in the nucleus (核) of cells. The scientists were very interested in the ends of the chromosomes. They are called telomeres (端粒). Telomeres protect the ends of chromosomes, which shorten each time a cell divides. Scientists believe this shortening process causes cells to break down. This month, a report on bats was published in the journal Science Advances. One of the leaders of the study was Emma Teeling, a biologist in Ireland. Teeling said studying long-living mammals is another way to prove the molecular (分子) basis of continued “health length.” She added that studying bats made scientists learn more about the processes that drive healthy aging. The European researchers studied 493 bats from four bat species. They used information that had been collected over 60 years. Of these bats, the greater mouse-eared bat generally lived the longest, an average of 37 years. The scientists said this and a connected species, named Myotis, had telomeres that did not shorten with age. Another Myotis bat holds the record for oldest age, reaching 41 years. The scientists findings suggest that these bats cells have the ability to keep and repair their telomeres. This, they said, helps guard against the aging process. Based on its body size, a bat like the greater mouse-eared bat would be expected to live four years. But, these mammals are found to live nearly 10 times longer than that. The scientists found that eighteen of these are bats except an unusual African rat.(1) Which of the following can be put in the blank at the end of Paragraph 3? A . This makes scientists able to study bats.B . Thats why bats can fly a great distance.C . They say this is what causes aging.D . They discover the cells connected to humans.(2) Some species of bats live a very long time because _. A . they have a line of long-living genes out of the cellsB . their cells have the ability to keep and repair their telomeresC . they have another ability to live longer without any food or waterD . telomeres protect the ends of chromosomes to stop cells dividing(3) The underlined word that refers to _. A . the four years timeB . body sizeC . the aging processD . the ability to repair(4) According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE? A . If you dont think so, come to the programIntroducing a Girl to Engineering Day.Some successful women engineers invited middle school girls in South Carolina, US to take part in the program every year in May. On the program, they talk to the girls and give them fun activities to try out. These help them learn about the fun side of engineering. This year, the girls learns to make paper boats, and they used their breath(呼吸)to make the boats move.Laura Kate, an eighth-grader told the Aiken Standard newspaper that she was not sure to take up engineering as her job yet, but she found the program was a lot of fun.In many countries the number of women engineers is small. The main reason is that women lose interest in engineering at a young age. We want to let the girls know there is a choice for them, said Monica Philips, one of the engineers. (1) How often do people hold the program? A . Once a week.B . Once a month.C . Once a year.D . Only this year.(2) What did they learn this year on the program? A . How to go boating.B . (8分) 阅读理解 In some science fiction movies, evil robots refuse to die, no matter how hard people fight back. Now science fiction has become science fact. For the first time, scientists have made a robot that can take a beating (挨打) and keep on going. Scientists from Cornell University made the robot, which looks like a spider with four legs.Until now, even the most advanced (先进的) robot was almost certain to break down when it was damaged. That is because its computer inside simply doesnt know how to make the machine work after its shape has changed. To deal with this problem, the scientists put eight motors (发动机) and two sensors (传感器) that read how the machine is working. They all give signals to the machines software. Using this information, the computer can then figure out the machines shape at any moment. The new technology is a big advance in robot-making, scientists say, and its far from scary. It may someday help scientists create better artificial (假的) arms and legs and give new freedom to people who lose them. It might also help scientists understand how people and animals figure out their own sense of place in space. It has been difficult to design robots that can work well when the environment changes or when its damaged, says Olaf Sporns of Indiana University in US. With this work, we are nearer to solving this problem.(1) Why do robots easily break down when they are damaged? A . They cannot repair themselves.B . The computer has changed a lot.C . They have no computers inside.D . The computer cannot work if the robot changes.(2) The new technology allows the robot to _. A . do house work for humansB . keep working after being damagedC . remember a lot of informationD . tell people where it is(3) The underlined word them in Paragraph 5 refers to _. A . sensorsB . robotsC . arms and legsD . scientists(4) How do the sensors in the robot work? A . They can replace the computer when its broken.B . They can find out where the damage comes from.C . They help the computer learn the robots condition.D . They can send signals to the person who uses the robot.(5) The passage is probably from_. A . an advertisementB . a tour guideC . a noticeD . a newspaper9. (10分) (2019八上渠县月考) 阅读理解 I was walking around in a store. Is it the smell of fresh pizza, or the sight of your favorite desserts? Food that looks and smells good will probably taste good, but what about sound? Is that important, too?Scientists now believe that the taste of food can change when your ears hear different sounds, but it has to be right kind of sound. When you turn on a microwave with popcorn in it, it soon starts to pop. Do you think, That sounds tasty!?Not really, you probably think its nearly ready. But when you smell it, you go to get the salt and the butter. Hearing the popcorn makes you think about it, but smelling it tells you that it tastes good. So what arc the sounds to change the tastes of the things? In an experiment(实验)in a fish restaurant, customers(顾客)listened to the sound of the seaside while they ate. Did it make a difference? Yes, it did Listening to the sea seemed to improve the taste of the food. It was fresher and saltier. When the restaurant tried the same experiment with the sound of the farm animals, there was no difference in taste. The results are going to be useful for restaurants. Perhaps they will try to use fewer unhealthy things, like salt and sugar in food With the right music or sounds, perhaps we wont taste the difference. Restaurants are also beginning to set a connection(联系)between food and the sound that the packet(包装袋)makes. Pick up a packet of your favorite potato chips, what does it sound like? One restaurant recently changed the material(材料)that they used to make their potato chip packets because experiments show that the packet which makes a right noise will make customers think the potato chips are fresher. Another idea is that a list of music will begin to appear on food packets, so if you dont like your green vegetables, the right music or sounds could help you learn to love them. (1) According to the passage, what do you do when popcorn makes noise in the microwave? A . You plan what you will put on it.B . You start to smell it.C . You take it out of the microwave.D . You begin to imagine the taste of it.(2) What does the word improve in Paragraph 3 mean in tile third paragraph? A . Make something better.B . Make something worse.C . Make something useful.D . Make something bigger.(3) Why is the material of the food bag important? A . Customers want it to sound and look right.B . Customers enjoy looking at the different materials.C . Customers think the food is good if it makes the right sound.D . Customers dont like noisy packet.(4) The writer wrote the passage. A . to find out if people like pizzaB . to explain how sound can change the tastes of foodC . to tell different tastes and smells of foodD . to make people eat more green vegetables第 17 页 共 17 页参考答案一、 阅读理解 (共10题;共86分)1、答案:略2、答案:略3、答案:略4、答案:略5、答案:略6、答案:略7、答案:略8、答案:略9、答案:略10、答案:略
