Is it the price you see on the gift receipt?Or is it the look on the recipients face when they receive it that determines the true value? What gift is worth the most? This Christmas I was debating what to give my father. My dad is a hard person to buy for because he never wants anything. I pulled out my phone to read a text message from my mom saying that we were leaving for Christmas shopping for him when I came across a message on my phone that I had locked. The message was from my father. My eyes fell on a photo of a flower taken in Wyoming, and underneath a poem by William Blake. The flower, a lone dandelion standing against the bright blue sky, inspired me. My dad had been reciting those words to me since I was a kid. That may even be the reason why I love writing. I decided that those words would be my gift to my father.I called back. I told my mom to go without me and that I already created my gift. I sent the photo of the creamcolored flower to my computer and typed the poem on top of it. As I was arranging the details another poem came to mind. The poem was written by Edgar Allan Poe;my dad recited it as much as he did the other.I typed that out as well and searched online for a background to the words of it. The poem was focused around dreaming, and after searching I found the perfect picture. The image was painted with blues and greens and purples, twisting together to create the theme and wonder of a dream. As I watched both poems passing through the printer, the white paper coloring with words that shaped my childhood, I felt that this was a gift that my father would truly appreciate. Christmas soon arrived. The minute I saw the look on my dads face as he unwrapped those swirling black letters carefully placed in a cheap frame, I knew I had given the perfect gift.56. The idea for a special gift began to form when the author was _.Adoing shoppingBhaving a debateCreading a message Dleaving for Wyoming57. The authors inspiration for the gift came from _. Aa photo of a flower Ba story about a kid Ca call from the mother Da text about Christmas58. The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refers to a poem by _. A. the father Bthe author CWilliam Blake DEdgar Allan Poe59. The author made the gift by _. ATo show how to design images for gifts. BTo suggest making gifts from ones heart. CTo explain how computers help create gifts.D.To describe the gifts the author has received.B Holidaymakers who are bored with baking beaches and overheated hotel rooms head for a big igloo. Swedish businessman Nile Bergqvist is delighted with his new hotel, the worlds first igloo hotel. Built in a small town in Lapland, it has been attracting lots of visitors, but soon the fun will be over. In two weeks time Bergqvist s ice creation (作品) will be nothing more than a pool of water. We dont see it as a big problem, he says. We just look forward to replacing it. Bergqvist built his first igloo in 1991 for an art exhibition. It was so successful that he designed the present one, which measures roughly 200 square meters. Six workmen spent more than eight weeks piling 1,000 tons of snow onto a wooden Base; when the snow froze, the base was removed. The only wooden thing we have left in the igloo is the front door, he says. After their stay, all visitors receive a survival certificate recording their success. With no windows, nowhere to hang clothes and temperatures below 0, it may seem more like a survival test than a relaxing (轻松的) hotel break. Its great fun, Bergqvist explains, as well as a good start in survival training. The popularity of the igloo is beyond doubt: it is now attracting tourists from all over the world. At least 800 people have stayed at the igloo this season even though there are only 10 rooms. You can get a lot of people in, explains Bergqvist. The beds are three meters wide by two meters long, and can fit at least four at one time. 1. Bergqvist designed and built the world s first igloo hotel because _. A. he believed people would enjoy trying something new B. he wanted to make a name for the small town C. an art exhibition was about to open D. more hotel rooms were needed 2. When the writer says the fun will be over, he refers to the fact that _. A. hotel guests will be frightened at the thought of the hard test B. Bergqvist s hotel will soon become a pool of water C. holidaymakers will soon get tired of the big igloo D. a bigger igloo will replace the present one3. According to the text, the first thing to do in building an igloo is _. A. to gather a pool of water B. to prepare a wooden base C. to cover the ground with ice D. to pile a large amount of snow4. When guests leave the igloo hotel they will receive a paper stating that _. A. they have visited Lapland B. they have had an ice-snow holiday C. they have had great fun sleeping on ice D. they have had a taste of adventure5. Which of the four pictures below is the closest to the igloo hotel as described in the text?C There were smiling children all the way. Charily they knew at what time the train passed their homes and they made it their business to stand along the railway, wave to complete strangers and cheer them up as they rushed towards Penang. Often whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on the trains were their favorite relatives. This is the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved. I had always traveled to Malaysia by plane or car, so this was the first time I was on a train. I did not particularly relish the long train journey and had brought along a dozen magazines to read and reread. I looked about the train. There was not one familiar face. I sighed and sat down to read my Economics. It was not long before the train was across the Causeway and in Malaysia. Johore Baru was just another city like Singapore, so I was tired of looking at the crowds of people as they hurried past. As we went beyond the city, I watched the straight rows of rubber trees and miles and miles of green. Then the first village came into sight, Immediately I came alive; I decided to wave hack. From then on my journey became interesting. I threw my magazines into the waste basket and decided to join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me. Even the trees were smiling. I stared at everything as if I was looking at it for the first time. The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry. I looked at my watch and was surprised that it was 3:00 pm. Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth. I looked at the people all around me. They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile, I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug (拥抱). I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weather-beaten face warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car. I looked forward to the return journey. 71. I typed that out as well and searched online for a background to the words of it. 句中一个关键词组为the worlds first igloo hotel,而不是first igloo,此题要细心才能判断。 60.答:B最佳【分析】题难度适中,问the fun will be over是指什么事实? 此段第一句关键部分是对will be nothing more than a pool of water的理解。 72. 选A。 Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth. TVs and RadiosOur class had a discussion about TVs and Radios. Most students think that TVs are more useful than radiosThey have vivid pictures and beautiful colorsFrom TV you can see and hear what is happening in the world. However, radios are not disappearingThey are still with usA radio can be very smallIt is very easy to carryBesides, radio broadcasts are better for blind peopleMany old people dont have good eyesightThey cant watch TV, but can listen to music or news over the radioWhats more, a radio is cheaper than a TV set.In my opinion, we should choose the one that is suitable to us.
