AWhen I recently revealed to my friends, colleagues, and family members that I would be moving my family to Israel, the reactions were numerous and varied. Some people said it was an expected thing while others asked: Why now? What will you do?For me, making the move to Israel is the fulfillment of a dream that has lasted for my 47 years of life. I have always known that Israel is my home. Over the years Israel has been in my heart, but I have found a number of reasons to put off making it my permanent residence: kids, the economy, education.you name an excuse, and at some point I have probably used it.Truthfully, I believe that I was always just a little bit scared. And of course I still am, with the fear factor that is reported by the press surrounding the Israeli military and economy. However, it has e to the point when I have realized that for over 2 000 years we yearned for this land, and for 47 years I have denied the opportunity to make it my home. I am finally ready to fully grasp this opportunity.Over the years, I have always loved visiting Israel. I have traveled there with my family, and enjoyed introducing thousands of travelers to the country. All of these things that I have e to love about Israel as a tourist are because I get to love my home. And as far as waiting for the perfect condition under which to make aliyah, I believe the time is now!I have been asked many times if I am nervous about moving to Israel. Before I answer, I remember that we have overe the Greeks, the Romans, the Russian killings, Hitler and the Holocaust(大屠杀), and the armies of seven countries. How can I not feel confident that I, and my family, will overe any difficulties that may e our way? I am not worrying, plaining, crying, or fearing as I prepare to make aliyah. I am proud and excited to say that I am fulfilling a 47-year-old dream; I am going home.1.What does the author want to say in the passage?A. His dream is to e true after 47 years.B. It is a dilemma for him to return to Israel.C. He didnt live a happy life in Israel.D. It is a latest trend to fulfill everyones dream.2.The author didnt return to Israel before because .A. his children mainly held him backB. he failed to get determinedC. he didnt save enough moneyD. he hoped to finish his education3.What does the underlined part make aliyah mean in the passage?A. To return to Israel.B. To make a decision.C. To live happily.D. To catch a chance.4.It can be inferred from the passage that .A. the author will be happy to meet his relatives in IsraelB. Israel is a familiar word but a strange place for the authorC. the Israeli suffered a lot in the historyD. Israel is still a place between war and chaos【文章大意】本文是一篇讲述个人经历的记叙文。 I believe the time is now以及最后一段中的as I prepare to make aliyah可知画线部分指的是回到家乡以色列。 依据倒数第二段中的we have overe the Greeks, the Romans, the Russian killings, Hitler and the Holocaust(大屠杀). B(2018广东七校联考)Should we allow modern buildings to be built next to older buildings in a historic area of a city? In order to answer this question, we must first examine whether people really want to preserve the historic feel of an area. Not all historical buildings are attractive. However, there may be other reasonsfor example, economic reasonswhy they should be preserved. So, let us assume that historical buildings are both attractive and important to the majority of people. What should we do then if a new building is needed? In my view, new architectural styles can exist perfectly well alongside an older style. Indeed, there are many examples in my own hometown of Tours where modern designs have been placed very successfully next to old buildings. As long as the building in question is pleasing and does not dominate(影响) its surroundings too much, it often improves the attractiveness of the area.It is true that there are examples of new buildings which have spoilt(破坏) the area they are in, but the same can be said of some old buildings too. Yet people still speak against new buildings in historic areas. I think this is simply because people are naturally conservative(保守的) and do not like change.Although we have to respect peoples feelings as fellow users of the buildings, I believe that it is the duty of the architect and planner to move things forward. If we always reproduced what was there before, we would all still be living in caves. Thus, I would argue against copying previous architectural styles and choose something fresh and different, even though that might be the more risky choice.【解题导语】本文是一篇议论文,讨论了现代建筑是否应该和古老的历史建筑建在一起。1What does the author say about historical buildings in the first paragraph?AMost of them are too expensive to preserve.BThey are more pleasing than modern buildings.CThey have nothing to do with the historic feel of an area.DSome of them are not attractive.D解析:细节理解题。根据第一段的第三句“Not all historical buildings are attractive.” 2Which of the following is TRUE according to the author?ASome old buildings have spoilt the area they are in.BWe should reproduce the same old buildings.CBuildings should not dominate their surroundings.DNo one understands why people speak against new buildings.A解析:细节理解题。根据第三段的第一句“It is true that there are examples of new buildings which have spoilt(破坏) the area they are in,but the same can be said of some old buildings too.” 3By using the words “move things forward” in the last paragraph, the author probably means “ ”Adestroy old buildingsBput things in a different placeCchoose new architectural stylesDrespect peoples feelings for historical buildingsC解析:词义猜测题。根据文章第四段的第二句“If we always reproduced what was there before,we would all still be living in caves.” C。4What is the main purpose of the passage?ATo explain why people dislike change.BTo argue that modern buildings can be built in historic areas.CTo warn that we could end up living in caves.DTo admit how new buildings have ruined their surroundings.B解析:写作意图题。通读文章可知,第一段的第一句“Should we allow modern buildings to be built next to older buildings in a historic area of a city?” The Science of Risk-SeekingSometimes we decide that a little unnecessary danger is worth it because when we weigh the risk and the reward, the risk seems worth taking. 1 Some of us enjoy activities that would surprise and scare the rest of us. Why? Experts say it may have to do with how our brains work. The reason why any of us take any risks at all might have to do with early humans. Risk-takers were better at hunting, fighting, or exploring. 2 As the quality of risk-taking was passed from one generation to the next, humans ended up with a sense of adventure and a tolerance for risk.So why arent we all jumping out of airplanes then? Well, even 200,000 years ago, too much risk-taking could get one killed. A few daring persons survived, though, along with a few stay-in-the-cave types. As a result, humans developed a range of character types that still exists today. So maybe you love car racing, or maybe you hate it. 3 No matter where you are on the risk-seeking range, scientists say that your willingness to take risks increases during your teenage years. 4 To help you do that, your brain increases your hunger for new experiences. New experiences often mean taking some risks, so your brain raises your tolerance for risk as well. 5 For the risk-seekers, a part of the brain related to pleasure bees active, while for the rest of us, a part of the brain related to fear bees active. As experts continue to study the science of risk-seeking, well continue to hit the mountains, the waves or the shallow end of the pool.A. It all depends on your character.B. Those are the risks you should jump to take.C. Being better at those things meant a greater chance of survival.D. Thus, these well-equipped people survived because they were the fittest.E. This is when you start to move away from your family and into the bigger world.F. However, we are not all using the same reference standard to weigh risks and rewards.G. New brain research suggests our brains work differently when we face a nervous situation.【语篇解读】这是一篇说明文,作者讲的是有关冒险的科学的探索方面的内容。1.F 【解析】选项F中的weigh risks and rewards与上文的weigh the risk and the reward相呼应,故F项符合语境。 Being better at those things与上文的were better at hunting, fighting, or exploring相呼应,因此选C。 4.E 【解析】根据上文的your willingness.teenage years及下文的hunger for new experiences. It was on a warm autumn day that my father and I walk into my new high school. After registered in the classroom, the volunteer took me to my dormitory. Altogether I had five roommates, two of which arrived later.I got to know my new roommate immediately. Although I was quite unwilling to say“Goodbye” to my father, but he had to leave to home. I suddenly realized I had grown up and that I had to look after me and live independently. Not until then I know my senior high school life had real begun.【答案】It was on a warm autumn day that my father and I into my new high school. After in the classroom, volunteer took me to my dormitory. Altogether I had five roommates, two of arrived later.I got to know my new immediately. Although I was quite unwilling to say“Goodbye” to my father,/ he had to leave home. I suddenly realized I had grown up and that I had to look after and live independently. Not until then I know my senior high school life had begun. 根据“It was on a warm autumn day”可知,事情发生在过去,故用一般过去时。 第六处:删除but或将but改为yet。 第七处:leave后的to改为for。 第九处:then后加did。 Nowadays, its hard to imagine how often you are a victim of a traffic jam_【参考范文】书面表达
