The Olympic Games*阅读理解Crossing your legs is an extremely mon habit; most people dont even notice that theyre doing it when they sit down. While you may find it fortable to sit with one knee crossed over the other, it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of.A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The reason for this is that the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart and that crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. This causes your body to increase your blood pressure to push the blood back to the heart. You wont feel any immediate effects, but repeated, drawnout increases in blood pressure can cause longterm health issues. So, planning to sit for a long period of time? Dont keep your legs crossed.“Crossing your legs at the knee can also cause pressure on the major nerve in your leg that passes just below your knee and along the outside of your leg,” explains Richard Graves, a medical expert. This pressure can cause numbness and temporary paralysis(麻痹) of some of the muscles in your foot and leg, preventing you from being able to raise your anklewhat we know as that “pins and needles” sensation. While the feeling of disfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage. So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.【解题导语】本文是一篇科普说明文。 1What can we learn about crossing ones legs?AIt is a very bad social habit.BIt is usually practiced deliberately.CIt can do harm to peoples health.DIt can make others feel unfortable.C解析:细节理解题。 2According to the study, sitting with your legs crossed can Aaffect your blood pressureBresist gravity effectivelyClead to heart attacks easilyDimprove the function of legsA解析:细节理解题。 3In the third paragraph “pins and needles” probably means “ ”Aslightly sharp painsBbeing a little tiredCserious muscle injuriesDbeing highly flexibleA解析:词义猜测题。根据第三段的“This pressure can cause numbness and temporary paralysis(麻痹) of some of the muscles in your foot and leg, preventing you from being able to raise your ankle”可知,这种压力会导致腿部和脚的一些肌肉暂时麻痹,使人无法站立,有一种针刺感;据此可以判断,画线词意为“轻微的针刺感似的疼痛”,故A项正确。4What is the main purpose of the text?ATo pare mon habits.BTo give readers some advice.CTo evaluate the effects of an experiment.DTo introduce research methods.B解析:写作意图题。 Do you make friends _1_(easy)? v发生1D根据上下文可知,家里没有WiFi对我们生活的影响是巨大的(huge)。possible“可能的”;modest“谦虚的”;positive“积极的”。2B根据前一句“It had a _1_ effect on our lives”和下文的“But,what will we do”可知,平时家里离不开WiFi,现在没有了,当然对我们平时的生活方式产生挑战。explore“探索”;improve“提升”;guarantee“保证”。3C根据下文的“When given the news that there was no WiFi in the house”可知,我们家里失去(lost) WiFi一个多星期;receive“收到”;book“订购”;buy“购买”。4B根据第二段第一句“I was raised in the preWiFi era”可知,“我”是在没有WiFi的时代长大的,因此对于没有了WiFi也是比较习惯的(accustomed),be accustomed to表示“习惯于”。 6C根据空后的“But, what will we do”可知空处指的是他们的第一反应(response)。 excited“兴奋的”;grateful“感激的”;embarrassed“尴尬的”;desperate“绝望的”。8B根据本句的定语从句“most of which is now given online”可知,家庭作业应是孩子们的主要(major)挑战。avoidable“可避免的”;enjoyable“令人愉快的”;simple“简单的”。 10C根据空后的宾语从句“that one of her friends had her water supply temporarily_11_ due to a leak”可知,这些内容应该是女儿讲出来(observed)的。 repeat“重复”;promise“承诺”;ignore“忽略”;observe“观察,说,评论”。11B根据该空后的“due to a leak”可推知,水管漏水了,供水会被暂时中断(cut off)。 enable sb.to do sth. look into“调查”;search for“寻找”;borrow“借”。 reflect“反思”;hear“听到”;appreciate“欣赏”。20C根据该空后的“without WiFi was seeing the children make forts(堡垒)out of the sofa cushions, which they havent done in years”可知,没有了WiFi,孩子们可以在一起玩,这是愉快的(bright)事情。 Dear Lisa,Im glad to receive your letter asked about the present holiday life of Chinese students. Learning together with entertainment still take up most of our time. Besides, we often help our parents with the housework or farm work, that makes us realize how hard we work every day and develop a great love for work. Meanwhile, we take active part in social activities, such as voluntary work. We went out to the streets to collect rubbishes or to the hospitals to cheer up the sick children. We try our best to help those who are in need or make our hometown a lot of more beautiful. We find greatly pleasure in these activities.Yours,Li Ming答案:Dear Lisa,Im glad to receive your letter about the present holiday life of Chinese students. We try our best to help those who are in need make our hometown a lot more beautiful. We find pleasure in these activities. a lot of表示“许多”,修饰名词。
