Unit 4 Wildlife protection Period 2 Reading课后阅读训练. 阅读理解A Can we give a hand to those endangered animals?Yes, we may only do a little bit, but together our small actions add up to a lot. 1. Protect wildlife habitatPerhaps the greatest threat that faces many species is the widespread destruction of habitat. Cutting down forests, farming, and development all result in loss of wildlife habitat. In areas where rare species live, habitat destruction can quickly force a species to extinction. By protecting habitat, entire munities of animals can be protected together naturally. Parks and reserves are now all too often the only habitats that are left untouched by habitat destruction. 2. Reduce the threat of invasive(入侵的)speciesThe spread of non-native species has greatly reduced native populations around the world. Invasive species pete with native species for resources(资源)and habitat. They can even prey on native species directly, forcing native species towards extinction. 3. Place decals(贴花纸)on windowsIt is reported that as many as one million birds in the United States die each year because of collisions(碰撞)with windows. You can help reduce the number of collisions simply by placing decals on the windows in your home and office. 4. Slow down when drivingMany native animals have to live in developed areas and this means they must move in human-living areas. One of the biggest obstacles(障碍)to them is that created by roads. Roads divide habitat and present a constant risk to any animal attempting to cross from one side to the other. So when you drive out, slow down and keep an eye out for wildlife. 【语篇概述】我们能为濒危动物做点什么?本文给出了很好的建议, 我们每个人都可以为此伸出援手, 尽自己的微薄之力。1. What would be the best title for this passage?A. My friends would say“Alice, you look great!”or“How did you lose so much weight?”Those pliments made me feel good and confident. Soon I dropped to 110 pounds. A few of my friends told me that I need to stop dieting because I was starting to look sick. They brought me a presenta bag of chocolates, which I later gave to my sister. My mum would e to my room, with tears in her eyes, and have long chats about how harmful this diet was and begged me to stop. My dad would leave worried messages on my cell phone at school, telling me that it would do serious harm to my body. By mid-June, when school was ing to an end, I was down to an only alive state of 95 pounds. All of a sudden, I knew I had to do something. I guessed the number itself scared me. I recalled my doctor. He told me about a girl who was 95 pounds and was at the risk of dying. I knew I was putting my life at risk, but for what?To make those who love me worried? Is it worthwhile to be thin? Now I realize that models in magazines, TV and movies are not realistic. The price to pay for the“perfect body”is living with the dangerous and sometimes deadly eating disorder. And there are more important things to think about than how thin you are. 【语篇概述】本文作者通过自己的亲身经历告诉读者为了“完美身材”而冒着生命危险节食是不值得的。5. The authors mother went to her room to_.
