In recent years scientists have built a special robot to accompany astronauts on space missions (任务). Because this robot looks and moves like a person, scientists call it a humanoid robot. The latest model of the humanoid robot is known as R2, short for Robonaut 2.R2 was first launched into space on February 24, 2011. It was built by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the car producer General Motors (GM).R2 weighs 330 pounds and costs $2.5 million to build. It has arms and a head- filled with vision equipmentbut no legs. Its brain, or computer, is in its stomach. R2s arms can hold 20 pounds. Each bendable finger has 5 pounds of grasping force. R2s hands are also skillful. Since its hands are shaped like human hands, R2 can use human tools to complete tasks traditionally performed by astronauts. Astronauts absolutely have their day packed from the minute they wake up until they go to bed. If Robonaut can provide just an hours worth of relief to the astronauts doing something they dont want to do, that would make it worth it right there, says Nic Radford, the deputy project manager of R2.One advantage of working with R2 will be that ii cant complain about its work! Astronauts will also appreciate the fact that the robot can perform its duties without constant supervision (监管). R2 can be assigned a task and then checked on periodically. If R2 does not complete a task correctly, astronauts will be able to make minor adjustments to adapt (适应) the robots behavior so that the task gets done right.R2 is still in the design stage of development, which means that scientists are frequently testing it and looking for ways to improve it. Right now, humanoid robots do not have the protective equipment needed to work outside the space station. As technology advances, humanoid robots will be able to help astronauts with dangerous tasks as well as routine ones.In the future, humanoid robots will be astronauts eyes in space, going to places considered too difficult or unsafe for astronauts to explore. Some of them will be mounted on wheels to explore the surface of planets or asteroids (小行星). The robots will be able to send back videos and help astronauts gather information about the atmospheres of these places. One outcome of using these humanoid robots will be a greater understanding of the interaction between humans and robots. NASA engineers believe that when humans and robots combine forces and work together, the results will be better than what either could achieve alone. John Olson, a director at NASA headquarters in Washington, D.C, says that the project will allow us to go farther and achieve more than we can probably even imagine today.(1)According to the passage, we know that R2 _. A . has skillful arms and legsB . looks and moves like a personC . hasnt been launched yetD . provides just one hours relief(2)We can learn from the passage that _. A . R2 can only perform its duties with constant supervisionB . R2 is designed to only help astronauts deal with routine tasksC . R2 will be able to work outside the space station in the futureD . R2 has already taken the place of the astronauts eyes in space(3)John Olson believes that _. A . humanoid robots will be better at understanding humansB . astronauts will go farther in space than humanoid robotsC . humans will achieve more goals with the help of humanoid robotsD . robots will gather information about the atmospheres of the earth16. (10分)阅读下列短文,根据短文内容,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选择最佳选项。 Is It Better to Read Books or Listen to Them?We often think how fast we learn something depends on how smart we are. If your brain is taking in material quickly, youre clever; if not, well, that doesnt say great things about your IQ. But science shows context (上下文) and technique (技术) actually play a big role in how fast we learn, and even small changes like the way you use to read can make a big difference. Audio (音频的) books have plenty of advantages: you can enjoy them anywhere, even in the car, and not printing books saves trees. Poor readers also often find them more interesting. But according to the latest research, if your goal isnt to pass the time in traffic, but instead to learn something difficult, you should choose a physical book.In a recent opinion piece in the New York Times, psychology (心理学) professor Daniel T.Willingham mentioned a 2010 study where 48 students either read or listened to an article about child psychology. Although the students spent the same amount of time with their material and did about the same number of distracting (分散注意力) activities while they absorbed the information, they scored very differently on a 10-item quiz later. Generally, the readers scored 81 percent but while the listeners scored 59 percent. Why does listening vs reading material have such a great effect on learning?Willingham explains that first, most of us read more slowly than we listen (especially when pausing and rereading), and when youre trying to absorb new information, slower seems to be better. About 10 to 15 percent of eye movements during reading are actually regressive meaning the eyes are going back and re-checking, he explains to TIME. This happens very quicklySecond, books offer visual cues (可视线索) that help our brains organize and understand new information. Things like chapter breaks, subheadings, and lists help us in making sense of the material and understanding how it fits together. You lose all that when you go the audio way.The bottom line is simple: Dont feel shame about passing your time in traffic with an audio book. However, be aware of audios limitations when it comes to studying, and seriously consider choosing good old-fashioned reading instead.(1)According to the writer, you should choose to read a book to _. A . take in the informationB . pass the time in trafficC . learn something difficultD . organize new information(2)A physical book in Paragraph 2 probably means _. A . an audio bookB . a book about physicsC . a book about computerD . a book made of paper or cloth(3)What can we learn from the passage? A . To read a book is better than to listen to it.B . Readers are cleverer than listeners.C . Reading books is a good way to pass time.D . How fast we learn depends on how smart we are.17. (10分)根据短文内容填空。A seabird named Lydia recently made a 26-day nonstop(不间断的)journey of about 2,500 miles, just to search for food for her baby. She is fitted with a satellite tracking device (卫星跟踪仪). Her trip started on Oct. 18 from Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean. The trip is known as the longest nonstop journey by one of these endangered seabirds. Before that, this kind of birds was known only to fly a few hundred miles from where they live, staying away for just a few days at a time. They usually fly over the sea.The scientists feel it strange that Lydia made such a long, nonstop journey and flew overland. So the above facts raise some serious questions about efforts to stop the decline(减少)of the birds. The number of the birds has fallen by 10 percent over the past 20 years.Besides, the scientists are surprised that she was away from her baby for such a long time. They wonder why she needed to go that far. Maybe it shows that fish resources (资源)around Christmas Island are not large enough now. That might explain the slow decline of the bird 一 sea pollution(污染) is serious.(1)Why did Lydia make such a long and nonstop journey?(2)How far does this kind of birds usually fly at a time?(3)What do you know about the number of this kind of seabirds?(4)What do the scientists think Lydias long journey may show?(5)What can we learn from Lydias journey?(请自拟一句话作答)六、 写作题 (共1题;共10分)18.
