ATaylore is a kid who passes by to ride sometimes and help us with chores. Barely 15, shes never short of advice, and one of her favorite pastimes is teasing me about being afraid to go too fast on a horse.Last summer four of us rode down the trail behind our woods: my wife Karen, Taylore, Taylores friend Kendall and me. I was riding my 13-year-old, Tawny. We were two miles from home when, for some unexplainable reason,I pushed Tawny into a gallop(飞驰). The other horses were anxious to catch up, and just like that, the race was on.Taylore brushed past my left leg and, seconds later, Kendall went by on my right. I realized Tawny was covering ground faster than Id ever seen her. She strained every muscle in her body to catch up with the girls. It was like a truck winding over a mountain road without brakes (闸). Part of me felt perfectly in control, while another part screamed that I wasnt. In half a mile I knew wed be crossing the highway, so I prayed that the girls would be fine. I gave up calculating how long it might take before my horse would be tried enough to want to slow down.I was just about out of answers when I saw the girls slowing in front of me. Their horses were relaxed and fortable, not even breathing hard. Taylores face glowed. She gave me a high five. Wow, you did well, she said. I knew youd go fast when you were ready. No one in the group had even broken a sweat, except me. I was still nervous from the crazy pace. My heart pounded too, but not from exercise. Karen claims I was showing off for the girls that day, and maybe shes right. But I think I had something to prove. Because despite my wrinkles (皱纹), glasses and gray hair, I was feeling young at heart. And, like a horse on a warm summer day, Im always ready to kick up my heels.1. How did the race between the girls and the author begin?A. His horses gallop made the other horses want to catch up.B. He wanted to show off his riding skills for the girls.C. They wanted to know whose horse could run fastest.D. They teased him about being afraid to go too fast on a horse.2. During the race, _.A. the authors horse outran the girls horses the whole timeB. the author was confident that Tawny was in controlC. the girls were so anxious to win that they sweated a lotD. the authors good performance took Taylore by surprise3. When the race ended, the authors heart pounded because _.A. he was feeling thrilled and youngB. it was really tough exercise for himC. he was worried that the girls might be in dangerD. he felt quite embarrassed that he had lost the race4. The phrase kick up my heels at the end can be replaced by _.A. devote myselfB. enjoy myselfC. accept my challengeD. take part in running petition【文章大意】文章描述作者和两个女孩骑马比赛,这让作者感到兴奋,也感到虽然自己上了年纪,但是有一颗年轻的心。 We were two miles from home when, for some unexplainable reason,I pushed Tawny into a gallop(飞驰). The other horses were anxious to catch up, and just like that, the race was on. 故选A。 I was still nervous from the crazy pace. My heart pounded too, but not from exercise. Because despite my wrinkles (皱纹), glasses and gray hair, I was feeling young at heart. 故选A。B(2018惠州高三调研)Following the crowd may not always be in a persons best interest. But new research suggests that teens who get along with their friends may end up healthier as adults.Scientists have known that close friendships help boost health.Thats true for both teens and adults. The finding inspired Joseph Allen, a psychologist at the University of Virginia, and his team to study whether experiences during teen years would influence adult health. So they followed 171 teens, starting when the kids were just 13. They interviewed each one every year for five years, and also spoke to these teens closest friends, who provided additional information about the quality of their friendships. The same 171 people were interviewed again at ages 25, 26 and 27. This time, the questions surveyed each persons overall health. When the researchers analyzed the data, they found a strong connection between a teens behavior and adult health. Teens who had close friends grew up to be the healthier adults. Whether teens held back their feelings or expressed them to close friends also influenced later health. Those who held back their feelings were more likely to be sick as adults. The connection held up even after the scientists accounted for other possible influences on health.Weight, family ine and drug use were all examined. So were mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. And in these people, such other factors did not explain adult health as well as teen friendships did.Getting along with the crowd may have benefits, says Allen, but there are also drawbacks. Teens who are more independent tend to do better at school and work. And peer pressure may lead some kids to engage in risky behavior, such as smoking, drinking or using drugs. Dealing with it is an ongoing challenge,Allen acknowledges. “Finding the right balance is the key. Teens shouldnt lose heart for not finding this easy.”And, he adds,“Parents need to be understanding about the pressures teens face.”【解题导语】研究表明,与朋友较少或者没有朋友的青少年相比,有朋友的青少年在长大后更健康。 1Where can you probably read this passage?AScience fiction. BHealth column.CFashion magazine.DEntertainment newspaper.B解析:文章出处题。 2We can learn from Allens study that Amany other factors have a greater influence on adult health than teen friendshipsBmental health issues have nothing to do with adult health Cthe same 171 teens were interviewed each year from 13 to 27Dthe teens who couldnt express themselves grew up to be unhealthierD解析:细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Whether teens held back.sick as adults.” 3According to what Allen said, we can know that Ain order to do better at school, teens should not follow the crowdBthough its challenging for teens to deal with peer pressure, they should not give up Cteens will engage in smoking, drinking or using drugs when facing peer pressureDparents should understand their teens and stop them going with friendsB解析:细节理解题。 分析Allen的话“Finding the right balance is the key.Teens shouldnt lose heart for not finding this easy.” B。4What can be inferred from the passage?AThere is nothing bad for teens to follow the crowd.BClose friendships are the most important for peoples health.CTeen friendships may help teens bee healthier adults.DAdult health is only influenced by teen friendships.C解析:推理判断题。根据文章第一段第二句“But new research suggests that teens who get along with their friends may end up healthier as adults.” Youre growing up.That means youre probably experiencing lots of changes, all at once.Your body is changing. It might even seem as if your entire self is changing. It can be confusing and even scary. 1 And its good!Growing up means that you can do more, learn more, and start to make your mark on the world. In order for that to happen, your body produces chemicals called hormones that help both body and mind grow.Hormone levels change constantly, rising and falling. 2 But its partly to blame for intense emotions, surprising reactions, and mood swings.Because of the way your brain develops,it is somewhat ruled by emotions now and through your teen years. As a result, growing up can seem like an emotional roller coaster! 3 Take care of yourself. If you eat right, sleep enough, and get good exercise, your brain will be much more able to deal with the stress. 4 When you feel your moods swinging or youre upset,or confused, some quiet time will allow you to gather your thoughts and get calmer. Practice relaxing your body and deep breathing when you wake up and when you go to bed. 5 Plus, when stuff happens during the day, youll be able to calm yourself quickly with a deep breath or two before you react.Your body is changing.ATake a timeout.BBut the truth is,it happens to every teen.CWork out regularly to keep physically fit.DThis changing is needed for your bodys development.EIt will help you fall asleepand start the morning right.FHere are a few things you can do to make the ride smoother.GUsually, these feelings settle down when you realize what is going on.【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文。 1B由空前的“confusing and even scary”和空后的“good”可知,空处在这里起承上启下的作用,所以选B项。 3F空前的“an emotional roller coaster”与F项中的“make the ride smoother”相对应,且由下文列举的几个要点可知,F项符合文意。 5E空前的“Practice relaxing your body and deep breathing”与E项中的“It”对应,空前的“when you wake up”与E项的“start the morning right”对应;空前的“when you go to bed”与E项的“fall asleep”对应。 Last Sunday,I joined the voluntary group to help keep the traffic in good order at a big crossing near our school. At 800 am.,we arrived there, wore red vests with the word VOLUNTEER on the back.We helped with the police remind the passers-by to obey traffic rule.To our delighted, they all waited for the green light patient except one motor-biker.We also give out some handmade brochures about traffic regulations, for that many people praised us.About 4 hours later, they said good-bye to the police and left.Tired as we were,we all felt an honor to do our parts.答案:Last Sunday,I joined voluntary group to help keep the traffic in good order at a big crossing near our school. At 800 am.,we arrived there, red vests with the word VOLUNTEER on the back.We helped with the police remind the passers-by to obey traffic .To our ,they all waited for the green light except one motor-biker.We also out some hand-made brochures about traffic regulations, for many people praised us.About 4 hours later, said good-bye to the police and left.Tired as we were,we all felt an honor to do our parts. 故将the改为a。 解析:考查定语从句中介词which的用法,此处for是与后面praised相照应的,praise sb.for sth. I Like ReadingReading is my favorite hobby. I can never stop the love for reading because books are like wise teachers as well as good friends in my life. As we know, books are the source of knowledge. I benefit a great deal from reading. There are a variety of books for us to choose from, like history books, science books, literary books and so on. But what interests me most is literary books, especially those by famous writers. For one thing, they help to improve my writing skills and broaden my horizons. For another, they can enrich my life and provide me with great fun. Isnt it a pleasure to have great calm in mind while you are reading?
