I want to steal it when he is asleep.” “No, no,” said the woman. “He must look for his bag tomorrow morning. Then hell take you before the judge.” They thought and at last the woman had an idea. “We have forgetful grass,” said the woman, “Why not put some into his food? If he has the food, he will forget to take his bag away.” “How clever you are!” said the owner, “Dont forget it when you prepare supper for him.” The old man had the food with the forgetful grass and went to bed. The next morning, when the owner got up, he found the door was open and the old man had left with his bag. He woke his wife up and said angrily, “What a fool! Your forgetful grass isnt useful at all.” “No, no,” said the woman. “I dont think so. I left for the land of warmth and vitamin C(维生素 C), thinking of beaches and orange trees. When we touched down to blue skies and warm air, I sent up a small prayer of gratefulness. Swimming pools, wine tasting, and pink sunsets (at normal evening hours, not 4 in the afternoon) filled the weekend, but the best part- particularly to my taste, dulled by months of cold- weather root vegetables- was a 7 a.m. adventure to the Sarasota farmers market that proved to be more than worth the early wake-up call. The market, which was founded in 1979, sets up its tents every Saturday from 7:00 am to 1 p.m, rain or shine, along North Lemon and State streets. Baskets of perfect red strawberries, the red-painted sides of the Java Dawg coffee truck; and most of all, the tomatoes: amazing, large, soft and round red tomatoes. Disappointed by many a broken, vine-ripened(蔓上成熟的) promise, Ive refused to buy winter tomatoes for years. No matter how attractive they look in the store, once I get them home theyre unfailingly dry, hard, and tasteless. But I homed in, with uncertainty, on one particular table at the Browns Grove Farms stand, full of fresh and soft tomatoes the size of my fist. These were the real deal and at that moment, I realized that the best part of Sarasota in winter was going to be eating things that back home in New York I wouldnt be experiencing again for months. Delighted as I was by the tomatoes in sight, my happiness deepened when I learned that Browns Grove Farm is one of the suppliers for Jack Dusty, a newly opened restaurant at the Sarasota Ritz Carlton, where- luckily for me- I was planning to have dinner that very night. Without even seeing the menu, I knew Id be ordering every tomato on it. 25. What did the author think of her winter life in New York? A. Exciting. B. Annoying. C. Relaxing. D. Boring.26. What made the authors getting up early worthwhile? A. Visiting a local farmers market. B. Breathing in fresh air. C. Walking in the morning sun. D. Having a swim. 27. What can we learn about tomatoes sold in New York in winter? A. They are soft. B. They are juicy.C. They taste great. D. They look nice. 28. What was the author going to do that evening? A. Go to a farm. B. Check into a hotel. C. Eat in a restaurant. D. Buy fresh vegetables. CSalvador Dali (1904-1989) was one of the most popular of modern artists. The Pompidou Centre in Paris is showing its respect and admiration for the artist and his powerful personality with an exhibition bringing together over 200 paintings, sculptures, drawings and more. Among the works and masterworks on exhibition the visitor will find the best pieces, most importantly the Persistence of Memory. There is also LEnigme sans Fin from 1938, works on paper, objects, and projects for stage and screen and selected parts from television programmes reflecting the artists showman qualities. The visitor will enter the World of Dali through an egg and is met with the beginning, the world of birth. The exhibition follows a path of time and subject with the visitor exiting through the brain. The exhibition shows how Dali draws the viewer between two infinities (无限). “From the infinity small to the infinity large, contraction and expansion ing in and out of focus: amazing Flemish accuracy and the showy Baroque of old painting that he used in his museum-theatre in Figueras,” explains the Pompidou Centre. The fine selection of the major works was done in close collaboration (合作)with the Museo Nacional Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain, and with contributions from other institutions like the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. 29. DIt was a winter morning, just a couple of weeks before Christmas xx. While most people were warming up their cars, Trevor, my husband, had to get up early to ride his bike four kilometers away from home to work. On arrival, he parked his bike outside the back door as he usually does. After putting in 10 hours of labor, he returned to find his bike gone. The bike, a black Kona 18 speed, was our only transport. Trevor used it to get to work, putting in 60-hour weeks to support his young family. And the bike was also used to get groceries(食品杂货), saving us from having to walk long distances from where we live. I was so sad that someone would steal our bike that I wrote to the newspaper and told them our story. Shortly after that, several people in our area offered to help. One wonderful stranger even bought a bike, then called my husband to pick it up. Once again my husband had a way to get to and from his job. It really is an honor that a plete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before. People say that a smile can be passed from one person to another, but acts of kindness from strangers are even more so. This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it strengthened our faith in humanity(人性)as a whole. And it has influenced(影响)us to be more mindful of ways we, too, can share with others. No matter how big or how small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting. 33Why was the bike so important to the couple?AThe mans job was bike racing. BIt was their only possession.CIt was a nice Kona 18 speed. DThey used it for work and daily life.34We can infer from the text that _. Athe couple worked 60 hours a week. Bpeople were busy before Christmas Cthe stranger brought over the bike Dlife was hard for the young family.35How did people get to know the couples problem? AFrom radio broadcasts. BFrom a newspaper. CFrom TV news. DFrom a stranger.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Millions of people all over the world use the word OKIn fact, some people say the word is used more often than any other word in the worldOK means all right or acceptableIt expresses agreement or approval 36 Some people say it came from the Native American Indian tribe known as the Choctaw(乔克托语)The Choctaw word “okeh” means the same as the American word okayExperts say early explorers in the American West spoke the Choctaw language in the nineteenth centuryBut many people doubt thisLanguage expert Allen Walker Read wrote about the word “OK” in reports published in the 1960sHe said the word began being used in the 1830s 37 Some foreign-born people wrote “ all correct” as “o-l-l-k-o-r-r-e-c-t”, and used the letters OKOther people say a railroad worker named Obadiah Kelly invented the word long agoThey said he put the first letters of his name-O and K-on each object people gave him to send on the train 38 The organization supported Martin Van Buren for president in 1840They called their group the OK clubThe letters were taken from the name of the town where Martin was born-Old Kinderhook, New YorkThen there is the expression A-OKIt is a space-age expressionIt was used in 1961 during the flight of astronaut Alan ShepardHe was the first American to be launched into spaceHis flight ended when his spacecraft landed in the ocean, as plannedShepard reported, “Everything is A-OK.” 39 One story says it was first used during the early days of the telephone to tell an operator that a message had been receivedThere are also funny ways to say okay 40 These expressions were first used in the 1930sToday, a character on the American television series “The Simpsons” says it another wayHe says okely-doke ASome people say okey-dokey or okey-dokeBStill others say a political organization invented the wordCTherefore, it has bee popular in that area from then onDBut many experts dont agree on what the expression meansEStill, language experts do not agree about where the word came from.FIt was a short way of writing a different spelling of the word “all correct”.GHowever, some experts say the expression did not begin with the space age第三部分: 英语知识运用 (共两节,满分45分)第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,然后从4160各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 When studying in college , my classmates like reading one of Bernie Siegels books .The stories of his unconventional 41 and the exceptional patients he wrote about were so 42 to me and had such a big 43 on how I saw life from then on.
