To my surprise, many of them expressed disappointment. After their highly controlled high school lives, they were having difficulty fitting in with the free time in the university. When I asked them to describe their high school lives, many of them told me they got up at six in the morning and studied until ten at night. Most of this time was spent at school, doing much homework to help them prepare for the university entrance exams.Once they have entered the university, in my opinion, the students are not expected to devote all their waiting hours to studying, they should also take an active part in social activities. Therefore, they should learn to divide their time outside of the class between sports and clubs. Whats more, they should spend some time watching TV and chatting with their roommates. These activities are useful in helping them prepare for their future. But what surprised me most was that many of them did not seem particularly happy about their newly-found freedom. As they had so many choices, they felt that no matter what they were doing, they should be doing something else. Thats why they were not happy. To those students, my advice was, get used to it and learn to make decisions for yourselves.第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。AEsther Mahlangu is almost 80 but shes still going strong. For decades, she has practiced the traditional art of her tribe, the Ndebele, located in northeastern South Africa. “This was the old way of doing it, when it was done with black and white soil mixed with powder,” Mahlangu said, “and you would draw the pattern with your fingers.”Now Ndebele art is colorful with symmetrical (对称的) patterns. Mahlangu learned to paint from the elders in her hometown when she was a little girl. Soon, people realized she was talented. She could draw straight lines without rulers and master the colors. “We mix soil and water to make the paint,” she said. “And we use chicken feathers to paint. We Ndebele dont use rulers. Rulers are in our mind.” One day in the late 1980s, two French researchers came to the village. They noticed her paintings and asked her to travel to France to display her art. That marked the beginning of travels that took Mahlangu to more than 20 countries to exhibit her work. “I feel very happy that the Ndebele art is getting international recognition,” she said, “and Im glad I contributed to making it happen.”Some years back, Mahlangu opened a guesthouse and a school in her backyard where she mentors young artists. Nomewa Shongwe has been working with Mahlangu since the age of five. Some medical experts say light drinking may even be good for your health, especially for the heart. But they say such health benefits should be pared to the many health risks connected with alcohol use. Some research suggests that having one to two drinks of alcohol a day may offer some health benefits. Several large studies have shown that this type of moderate (适量的) drinking may lower the risk of heart disease and other diseases. A study last year suggested that drinking small amounts of red wine may help lower the risk of breast cancer in women. Researchers at Medical Center in California studied 36 women. Each woman drank a glass of red or white wine every day for almost a month. Researchers collected blood samples from the women twice a month to measure their hormone (激素) levels. The next month the women who drank red wine were told to drink white wine instead. The white wine drinkers were told to drink red wine. The researchers found that the women who drank red wine had lower levels of the female hormone than the white wine drinkers. They said red grapes have chemicals that may help to lower the risk of breast cancer. However, recent studies suggested that even small amounts of alcohol may generally increase the risk of breast cancer in women. They found that women who drink four small glasses of wine a week increase their risk of breast cancer by 15 percent. Many studies have examined the harmful effects of alcohol use on the body. Alicia Ann Kowalchuk serves as medical director, saying “Healthy use for adultsthats men under age 65is no more than 4 drinks in a day and no more than 14 drinks in a week. Here is a checklist that covers some of the major links in the job-search chain. THE RESUMEMake sure it is up-to-date and tailored to the types of jobs you are seeking for. Have someone else look at your resume. If you cannot afford a career coach, give your resume to friends or family members to scrutinize. Have copies of your resume printed so that you are ready to hand them out at interviews. COVERING LETTERSMaybe youve set up a few basic styles in advance, but thats not enough. Each covering letter should be designed to suit the job for which you are applying. THE FOLLOW-UPIt is quite mon to apply for a job and never hear back from the pany. Take measures, such as following up with a phone call a week or so after you apply. And when youre doing your holiday shopping online, make sure youre holding a large glass of iced tea. The physical sensation (轰动) of warmth encourages emotional warmth, while a cold drink in hand prevents you from making unwise decisionsthose are the practical lesson being drawn from recent research by psychologist John A.Bargh.Psychologists have known that one persons perception (感知) of anothers “warmth” is a powerful determiner in social relationships. Judging someone to be either “warm” or “cold” is a primary consideration, even trumping evidence that a “cold” person may be more capable. Much of this is rooted in very early childhood experiences, Bargh argues, when babies conceptual sense of the world around them is shaped by physical sensations, particularly warmth and coldness. Classic studies by Harry Harlow, published in 1958, showed monkeys preferred to stay close to a cloth “mother” rather than one made of wire, even when the wire “mother” carried a food bottle. Harlows work and later studies have led psychologists to stress the need for warm physical contact from caregivers to help young children grow into healthy adults with normal social skills.Feelings of “warmth” and “coldness” in social judgments appear to be universal. Although no worldwide study has been done, Bargh says that describing people as “warm” or “cold” is mon to many cultures, and studies have found those perceptions influence judgment in dozens of countries. To test the relationship between physical and psychological warmth, Bargh conducted an experiment which involved 41 college students. A research assistant who was unaware of the studys hypotheses (假设), handed the students either a hot cup of coffee or a cold drink to hold while the researcher filled out a short information form. The drink was then handed back. After that, the students were asked to rate the personality of “Person A” based on a particular description. Those who had briefly held the warm drink regarded Person A as warmer than those who had held the iced drink.“We are grounded in our physical experiences even when we think abstractly,” says Bargh.32.According to Paragraph 1, a persons emotion may be affected by.A.the visitors to his officeB.the psychology lessons he hasC.his physical feeling of coldnessD.the things he has bought online33.The author mentions Harlows experiment to show that.A.adults should develop social skillsB.babies need warm physical contactC.caregivers should be healthy adultsD.monkeys have social relationships34.In Barghs experiment, the students were asked to.A.evaluate someones personalityB.write down their hypothesesC.fill out a personal information formD.hold coffee and cold drink alternatively35.We ca
