This factor is exercise. In the cities it is often faster to walk short distances than to wait for a bus.Even taking public transportation often requires some walking.Smaller apartment houses have no elevators(电梯),and so people must climb stairs.City people can usually walk to local supermarkets. Since parking spaces are hard to find, there is often no alternative to walking. On the other hand, those who live in the country and suburbs do not have to walk every day.In fact, the opposite is often true.To go to school, work,or almost anywhere else, they must ride in cars.1The Vienna survey may help to explain _.Athe plaints of people in apartment houses Bthe cause of Mrs. Groegers deathCthe longevity of people like Mrs. Groeger Dthe image of cities in general2The purpose of the second paragraph is to list some _.Abenefits of walking Boccasions for walking in city lifeCments made by city people Dproblems of city living3To reach the third floor of a building, it would probably be most healthful _.Ato take the elevator Bto walk up the stairs Cto ride in a car Dto find an alternative to walking4People who live in the country probably do more driving than walking because _.Athey dont live near business areas Bthey dont need the exerciseCthey never have parking problems Dthey cant afford to take the busB One of our biggest fears nowadays is that our kids might some day get lost in a “sea of technology” rather than experiencing the natural world.TV and puter games are leading to a serious disconnect between kids and the great outdoors, which will change the wild places of the world, its creatures and human health for the worse, unless adults get working on childs play. Each of us has a place in nature we go sometimes, even if it was torn down. We cannot be the last generation to have that place. At this rate, kids who miss the sense of wondering outdoors will not grow up to be protectors of natural landscapes. “If the decline in parks use continues across North America, who will defend parks against encroachment (蚕食)?” asks Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods. Without having a nature experience, kids, can turn out just fine, but they are missing out a huge enrichment of their lives. That applies to everything from their physical health and mental health, to stress levels, creativity and cognitive (认知的) skills. Experts predict modern kids will have poorer health than their parentsand they say a lack of outside play is surely part of it. Research suggests that kids do better academically in schools with a nature ponent and that playing in nature fosters (培养) leadership by the smartest, not by the toughest. Even a tiny outdoor experience can create wonder in a child. The threeyearold turning over his first rock realizes he is not alone in the world.A clump of trees on the roadside can be the whole universe in his eyes. We really need to value that more. Kids are not to blame. They are overprotected and frightened. It is dangerous out there from time to time, but repetitive stress from puters is replacing breaking an arm as a childhood rite (仪式) of passage. Everyone, from developers to schools and outdoorsy citizens, should help regain for our kids some of the freedom and joy of exploring, taking friendship in fields and woods that cement (增强) love, respect and need for landscape. As parents, we should devote some of our energies to taking our kids into nature. This could yet be our greatest cause.5The main idea of Paragraph 2 is that _.Akids missing the sense of wondering outdoors Bparks are in danger of being gradually encroached CRichard Louv is the author of Last Child in the WoodsDchildren are expected to develop into protectors of nature 6. According to the passage, children without experiencing nature will _.Akeep a high sense of wonderBbe overprotected by their parents Cbe less healthy both physically and mentally Dchange wild places and creatures for the better 7According to the author, childrens breaking an arm is _.Athe fault on the part of their parentsBthe natural experience in their growing up Cthe result of their own carelessness in play Dthe effect of their repetitive stress from puters 8What does “sea of technology” mean in the first paragraph?AThe technology of TV and puter games.BThe technology of food.CThe technology of sea food.DThe technology of catching animals in the sea. way of life “有许多种”,love只是其中的一种,所以要用不定冠词。 A。struggle to do sth. protect sb./sth. from“保护某人/物不受”。 4解析:选A。 be concerned about关心;be engaged to与订婚;be related to与有关;be worried about担心,忧虑。 no wonder“难怪”,符合题意;no doubt“无疑,很可能”;naturally“当然,自然”;of course“当然”。 although tired为although I am tired的省略形式。 set up意为“建立”;set out意为“开始”; stand for意为“代表”;stand out意为“突出, 显眼”。 include“包括”;concern“涉及;关心”;affect“影响”;get/be involved in表示“卷入,陷入”,为固定搭配,符合题意。 14解析:选A。 be worth doing sth. Never mind意为“不要紧”;So what意为 “那又怎样”;Not at all意为“没关系”;Its a pity意为“真是遗憾”。. Why did she live to be 107? Smaller apartment houses have no elevators(电梯),and so people must climb stairs. 4解析:选A。 To go to school, work,or almost anywhere else, they must ride in cars. 8解析:选A。
