discovered a planet slightly larger than Jupiter that orbits a star 500 light years from Earth.A very good telescope was not even required;they found the planet using several small telescopes much like those used by amateur astronomers. The new planet is named TrES2 because it is the second such planet found by scientists working on the TransAtlantic Exoplanet Survey(TrES)It is a transiting planet(凌日行星),meaning it can be seen transiting,or moving, across the star it orbits.Ted Dunham,an instrument scientist at Arizonas Lowell Observatory, says transiting planets are special because researchers can answer a lot of questions about them. All it takes is some math and some observations about the planet and its relationship to its star. But how big is it?How long is its year(the time it takes to orbit around its star)? How much would you weigh if you were there?“TrES2 is a little bigger than Jupiter, has a year that is a little less than two and a half days, and is a little more massive than Jupiter,”explains Dunham. From its mass and radius(the distance across the planet) scientists can figure out the density of the planetwhether it is made of rock, gas,or a bination of the two.(TrES2 is made up mainly of gas.)They can also work out the surface gravity, says Dunham,“You would feel a little more than twice as heavy as on Earth if you were on TrES2.”Theres a catch, though.“The temperature is about 1,500 degrees Celsius(2,732 degrees Fahrenheit),and there is nothing solid to stand on.It isnt a likely place to look for life,” he says.Dunham says that to find smaller planets like Earth or Venus, scientists need to send instruments on a mission(使命) to space.NASA scientists are planning one called the Kepler Mission, which could begin in two years.TrES2 is in the part of the sky that the Kepler Mission will study.Since astronomers already know so much about it,they can use it to help make sure their instruments are working.1A suitable title for this passage would be_.AA Transiting PlanetBA New Planet in SightCThe Kepler MissionDAstronomers Great Achievements2If an astronomer wants to know about a transiting planet, what will he have to do?AObserve it carefully.BWork out the results by doing some math problems.CFind out its relationship to its star.DAll of the above.3What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 3 refer to in the passage?Atransiting planets BresearchersCquestions Dtelescopes4Suppose you were 56 kilograms on the earth. How much would you weigh if you were on TrES2?ALess than 28 kilograms.B28 kilograms.C56 kilograms.D115 kilograms.5Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?AAstronomers dont know what TrES2 is made up of.BTrES2 is the first transiting planet found by scientists on TrES.CTheres probably no life existing on TrES2.DKepler is carrying out its mission on TrES2. 1He dreamed of being a scientist.2Being a scientist was his dream.3His dream was being a scientist. Period FiveGrammar and Writing.1.They will be planted in rows in the field by me.2This must be done as soon as possible by you.3His leg was/got hurt when he fell from the tree.4The price has been brought down by us.5The children must be taken good care of.或Good care must be taken of the children.6A letter is being written by Mary now.1.sells well2.feels very soft3.need watering/to be watered4.well worth visiting5.It is said that.1.A句意为:这个海滨地区去年被命名为国家野生动物保护区。 故选A项。 现在进行时的被动语态的结构为be(am/is/are)beingp.p.。 should be done应该被做;must be done必须被做。 15D根据句意和时间状语“by the end of last year”可知,本句应该用过去完成时的被动语态形式。 根据原文倒数第四段的“You would feel a little more than twice as heavy as on Earth if you were on TrES2.”进行计算:562112,结合a little more than可知D项正确。 而原文的第六段最后一句提到TrES2主要是由气体组成的,故A项不符合原文描述;由原文第二段第一句话“.it is the second such planet found by scientists.” Einstein was born in Ulm,Germany on 14 March,1879.When he was a boy,he liked to ask questions.By the time he was 14,he had taught himself advanced mathematics.Just at that time he made up his mind to be a physicist and devote himself to science. His family was poor, but his parents did manage to send him to a technical school, then to the Federal Institute of Technology in Switzerland. He received his doctors degree at the University of Zurich in 1905.It was then that he first began to do the research work which led to his famous Theory of Relativity.Einstein was one of the greatest scientists in the world.
